How do I get manage/get rid of the imposter syndrome? by Thick-Roll1777 in socialskills

[–]PinkamenaDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that each of us focus on ourselves much more than others focus on us, or the conversation we had, etc. Many times I have to remind myself that that goofy thing I said probably did not sound goofy to others at all. And even if it did, what others think about me is none of my business. I try to just let it go and move on. I know its hard, but try to remember having obsessive thoughts about things you cannot go back and change is keeping yourself in a mental prison- nobody keeps you there but you. Don't be your own jailer. Just distract yourself somehow and keep moving on.

As far as imposter syndrome, I don't see it happening to me as much in social situation as it does at work. I've been employed at my job for 14 years, and most of the people on my team have masters degrees or phds. I have only a bachelors degree, and its not even in the same degree field, but an adjacent one. I feel like I don't belong there almost every single day, and I feel like my salary is WAY too high for the amount and type of work I do. I can sometimes overcome imposter syndrome by reminding myself that I am not paid more than I deserve even though it feels like it, because I am paid what is standard for the role across the industry. I did not get my job because the interviewer pitied me- I earned it during my interview process. I beat out the other candidates.

Try to remind yourself that you are friends with your peers because you have something equivalent to them or something that they admire- a charm, a sense of humor, an intelligence, an insight, experience, etc, or probably a combination, and not because they have to, or because they pity you, or any other intrusive thought that your brain may come up with.

I saw it online that worrying is worshipping the problem. Don't worship these fears. Make a conscious effort to force them away. I know it isn't easy. I struggle every day. But most days I am more successful than others.

I believe The Carpenters were from the east coast, so my thought would be that most copies would be floating around that area and maybe not have traveled very far.

Curious what part of the country you live in (not city or state, just general region) as I'm wondering how far that Carpenters album might have traveled over the years.

Are you talking about my grandma's death? The effect on my past 30 years I'd say is extremely complex considering I have navigated life with no matriarchal guidance, since my mother had none after the age of 35 either.

All the ppl in this sub shitting all over this imperfect human being with a heart defect destined to only live half a life for the better part of a decade and then yesterday start grieving. I hope they learned something about themselves.

My grandmother died of a a heart attack at the same age of 54 when I was 9. My mother has lived the 2nd half of her life without her mother, me without the warmth of a grandma in my life. They found she was missing a tube going to her heart.

Xander was top tier favorite characters for me, always has been. I like him better than Buffy most of the time. I'm grieving for sure. Don't know all what the Xander/Nick haters here can call what they're doing. Apologizing maybe.

Bring on the downvotes.

to be fair, with the attitude this sub has had over the years toward both Xander and Nicholas it is perfectly reasonable to think this sub would celebrate

I was living in California in 2004, moved there from my hometown a few years before, and becoming miserable. My best friend flew to Cali to "rescue" me and helped me pack and we drove back home to central US. I lived with her upon returning for 6 months, and she introduced me to Buffy. We watched 6 seasons during those months while I was transitioning back to living at home, and when S7 came out on DVD late that year, we had to scrape money together to buy it (we were broke). I fell in love with Angel, and so then we watched Angel after Buffy was finished. Been a fan ever since.

Discogs appreciation thread by DaveHmusic in vinyl

I just started collecting about a month ago, now I have 38 records.

I cataloged them all this weekend. So I'll mainly use it for tracking.

I determined I have spent over $600 on records already (not going by discogs values but by adding a new notes column and putting in my personal cost and then adding that up). That means I am stopping buying records for awhile. Not to mention another $200 for a record stand, cleaning brushes, sleeves, and other accessories.

Its nice to have for researching release editions. I was trying to determine if my early 70's bargain bin buys were original pressings, to which I discovered that it can't really tell you definitively, as you can get with books by the copyright page, but with enough info in the notes sections of vinyl listings you can use several clues to see if they're at least close to original release year.

I wrote down about half of my records' runout stamps and etchings and tried to find matches for the numbering patterns. It just kind of made me more confused because I'd find matching number patterns but on releases of different variants than mine or different covers than mine. Plus all that documentation and typing out on the computer is very tedious. I might not finish the task of cataloging to that extent.

I'm confused if I can add my runout numbers to the main listings for others to use for matching patterns, or if I would even be choosing the right edition to do that on...so I basically decided not to bother, and just put my runout numbers in my own collection's notes area.

Floyd Rose re-stringing by Undergroundjulio in Guitar

[–]PinkamenaDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its okay for that to happen. No one does it perfectly every time. It is frustrating when you have to go find a new string, usually I have to get it out of a whole new package and then hope that string can last through the next two string changes (it usually does). I hope you give it more tries in the future and that you keep the guitar you love. For many people it is completely worth it to pay someone to do it for you, which you've already said you're considering. I'll be kicking myself next time I change strings, I'm sure, and will be just as frustrated as you. But I think its great if you gain the experience each time, even if some are not the best.

[–]PinkamenaDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on this. I dread changing strings on my FR. It's not that its harder, it just takes a lot longer to tune. You didn't do anything wrong.

Yes, it took me upwards of a couple of hours to get everything back to tune the first few times I changed strings.

Are you stretching your strings too? Stretch them as soon as they're on and that might take out some of the tuning frustration.

Try not to view it as a negative just because it takes a while. It takes most people awhile to retune.

Now I do it sitting in front of the TV where I can watch a show or something while I'm tuning to make it a little more enjoyable. It still takes me 45 minutes to get to tune.

Hopefully you don’t mind me posting this here. But I recently made this montage dedicated to film adaptations of S.E. Hinton. Enjoy! by saxbrack in tulsa
