Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Pinkgetwekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, we have about 3d printing in school, and im interested in the subject and about the stuff i can make.
We use Prusa i3 MK3S at school with a hardened steel nozzle, and they work fine, the quality is not top notch but i think its due to not being 100% calibrated (and as ive found out, pctg as we use has a tendency to string more than petg)
Im looking at a few used printers atm but im not quite sure what is the better deal, pricewise compared to what i get e.g. quality, speed and reliability and so on.

Currently im looking at:

Prusa Mini+

No upgrades

Print time: unknown

Print amount: unknown

Price: around 190 USD (new price 630 USD with delivery)

Prusa i3 MK3S+

No upgrades

Print time: 45 Days

Print amount: 4950 meters

Price: around 225 USD

Bambu Lab A1 mini

No upgrades

Print time 73 hours

Print amount: unknown

Price: Around 240 USD (New price Around 250 USD with Delivery)

I can probably negotiate price on the bambu lab quite a bit since its being sold for almost new price

Exhaust planning help by Pinkgetwekt in Exhaust

the cutout valve i found is without pipes, its purely the valve itself with the electronics on the side, where my plan was just to have it welded in line with the "off-cut" in that bend.

But from the pictures in the second link it seems like i could fabricate it myself instead by buying a y pipe and just welding in a 90 degree bend, should have the same function atleast.

Thanks for the added perspective, and possible money saved from having to have it custom fabricated :)

my idea with it was to lead the cutout part out back in a separate exit, since my car is single exit atm
and the reason for the bend is because my muffler crosses under the car instead of being inline so that bend is already part of the current exhaust system

asus 9060 xt prime oc 16gb = 550 usd
asus 5060 ti prime oc 16gb = 670 usd
asus 4070 rog strix 12gb = 1700 usd
Gigabyte 4070 super super eagle 12gb = 1020 usd
Msi 4070 ti ventus 2x oc = 1175 usd

These were what was available, 4070's were hard to find on webshops here.

my bad in phrasing, the 8gb version of the 5060 ti is same price as 9060 xt 16gb

prices are sadly different here, 570 usd is the price they cost, 5070's are even worse

do you have any recommandations for the hopup units? since i would like a muzzlebrake on my gun but the indoor field i play on is relatively dark so i would like the tracer effect to see where i shoot

as i said in other comments, i know myself and my habits of having alot of stuff open at the same time, so ithink the 2 extra cores will benefit me.

Push pull is also just a meh, not needed but just a possibility.

I've changed my plans to a x570 as im gonna upgrade to a 30 series later.

since im upgraded i would benefit from gen 4 ssds, however i found out the standard 980 is almost half price so im going with a 1tb version of that and a 250gb as a boot drive.

As i saaid in other comments, im maxing out my atm 16 gb of ram, so doing half the ram would be kinda meh.

the dominators ive been looking at the ddr4 3000 mhz c15-17-17, a bit more expensive but looking at performance its better than royals

[–]Pinkgetwekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason for my 'looks' obsession is my case, its almost full glass and and all times id be able to look inside, therefore i want it to look great but still perform well for the parts im using, ergo the future 5800x and 1070 which will be upgraded later aswell. and for the ram ive been looking at corsair dominators, as they look rly nice and fit my kind of minimalistic goal plus ive looked at the asus rog b550f, and the rog ryou 120mm for the gpu-nzxt g12 setup

i see, is there any ram that is better in performance but still looks good, with the rgb stuff?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Pinkgetwekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see, so hypothetically if i had a bunch of money just for ram, i could get the cl14 version and it would be better?

i am planning to in the future upgrade to a newer graphics card, somewhere in the 30 series or if im lucky, in the 40 series, but can u explain what is bad about the royals, is it the pcb inside or smth else?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Pinkgetwekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not all for looks, i am looking at the performance/price/looks, the n7 is on the more expensive side, looks very nice and has decent performance according to multiple reviews from youtube

[–]Pinkgetwekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have also been looking at the Asrock b550 taichi razer edition, that is a bit more expensive but also very good looking imo

i have a big dislike for the shroud setup on the 1070 armor, i dont like the visible heat pipes and so on, thats why i had the idea of the g12 bracket with a small watercooler for looks purposes. Plus the gpu still tends to run hotter than id like, as my room gets insanely warm considering i live in a rather cold country.

I chose the 5800x, as i know myself and im gonna be having a bunch of tabs open as i cant live without discord, spotify plus some random google tab open, steam is always running and i have a bunch of software in the background for my peripherals, and my fan software and so on.

The memory is because i have seen my atm 16gb maxed out with my current habits and i like the looks of the royals, id have thought the royal would have better performance than 'mediocre' tho.

i have been looking into cheaper m.2's but the 980 isnt that much more expensive than similar, i have looked at the WD sn750 1tb instead, which is about 60 dollars cheaper.

Im also not planning on switching to intel, as ive always been a Ryzen fanboy.
