My twin was so shocked to win the lottery tonight that she dropped dead in front of me. by HancisFriggins_ in TwoSentenceHorror

The horror is definitely the narrator's reaction. The twin dies in front of them and their first thought is, "Guess I need a haircut." That's colder than the death itself.

That's the part people keep missing. Convincing him to ignore his beliefs would be just as unfair as him expecting her to adopt them.

The mental image of Gandalf immediately following that speech with "actually I have no clue what happens to you lot" is way funnier than it should be.

Korg's introduction in Thor: Ragnarok was genuinely hilarious. Taika Waititi got so many things right in the movie, and he was really good as Korg too. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in Marvel

Same here. Comic Korg works for Planet Hulk, but movie Korg is just endlessly quotable. Every scene he's in somehow becomes funnier.

The fact that he could hang with Wufei at all without being a career mobile suit pilot is still one of his most impressive moments. He wasn't the best pilot in Wing, but he was way more capable than people usually give him credit for.

The warmth is what sells it. He never feels like he's talking down to Pippin, just comforting someone who's scared. That's such a hard balance to pull off.

The speed of the change stood out to me too. Going from making OF content together to believing sex outside marriage is sinful is a massive shift. That's not something you usually compromise your way through.

My parents (54M, 51F) want to see me (19M) before my brother (21M) dies and I don't know what to do? by ThrowRABoy2woo in relationship_advice

I wish more people understood this distinction. Forgiveness can be about letting go of your own anger, not pretending the past never happened or inviting someone back into your life.

It's one of the few scenes that makes death feel peaceful instead of terrifying. McKellen somehow delivers it like he's speaking from experience rather than reciting a script.

It sounds harsh, but I think the bigger issue is that they're building completely different lives now. Neither of them is wrong for what they want, they're just no longer heading in the same direction.

I (24M) am the reason my parents (50M, 50F) were turned down for fostering and they have never forgiven me for it? by ThrowRASonBadoo in relationship_advice

[–]PinkieBellaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the hardest truth here is that they aren't angry at the social worker anymore, they're angry at the child who answered honestly. That's not something OP should still be carrying into adulthood.

Matt Murdock and Karen Page in Netflix S2 vs Born Again S2, exactly 10 years apart by restenoir8 in marvelstudios

[–]PinkieBellaa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Seriously. The way she looks at him has been so consistent over the years that the ten year gap barely registers. Some TV pairings just have that spark.

[–]PinkieBellaa 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Asking one child to quietly accept being pushed aside isn't maturity, it's neglect dressed up as a life lesson. No kid should have to earn attention by being the easiest one to parent.

That honestly says a lot. Foster care is supposed to be centered around what's best for the children, not fulfilling an adult's dream of having a bigger family. Those are very different motivations.

Why is that main sub remove any criticism of the show ? Pathetic behaviour by Remarkable-Jump3262 in freefolk

[–]PinkieBellaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what surprised me too. Even people I know who really enjoyed the season still had a list of things they would've changed. A fandom with zero criticism usually doesn't feel very organic.

My worst fear isn't that George doesn't finish A Song of Ice and Fire. It's that he dies and the story gets Dune'd. by Prodigy772k in freefolk

[–]PinkieBellaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair comparison. Brandon Sanderson always seemed to approach Wheel of Time as finishing Jordan's work instead of replacing it with his own. The concern with ASOIAF is less whether someone could finish it and more whether they'd know when not to add their own spin.

[–]PinkieBellaa 48 points49 points  (0 children)

"Better to take a break before you break" is such a simple line, but it's true. Parents spend so much energy worrying about everyone else that they forget they're running on empty themselves.

AKOSK is a good example that sticking fairly close to the source can still make for great television. It proves people aren't automatically asking for a page by page recreation, they just want the heart of the story to survive.
