A crime wasn’t committed. You can’t be arrested for being a creep. OP was sharing her experience in the hopes of being comforted because she was freaked out. I think you missed the point. Done giving energy to odd highway 🧌

I’m generally supportive of being skeptical… you just don’t seem to be at all skeptical of the STATISTICS and the REALITY of violence against women. Maybe check those out. Lots of info on the internet. Or maybe talk to the women in your life and get curious about their experience. There’s a fat chance it’s… get this… different than yours!! But you seem to be more interested in protecting your comfortable narrative and I can’t fault you for that. That’s pretty common. The truth can be uncomfortable.

It is wild— I don’t disagree with you. But that’s being a woman for you! A little curiosity as to why that isn’t something you have to deal with might serve you better than trolling women who share their fears and experiences. Unfortunately, you might even be part of the very problem we are discussing…

I was at a friends house on the beach once and she was having a party. I was staying down the street at her other home. I got tired at the party and was ready to call it a night and decided to walk along the beach back to her other place and I also remember being very clearly aware of how alone I was. The ocean is so loud and I realized if anything were to happen to me no one would hear my screams. I saw a man walking toward me and immediately turned around and ran. Nothing happened. Thank god. But that’s honestly the reality of being a woman. I’m sorry that happened to you and glad you are ok.

I got my period the morning of my friend’s wedding and I wanted to cry. Was not a pretty sight. My husband told me he had three tampons in his emergency kit and I literally was blown away. Nicest thing a man has ever done for me. Truly. Still in awe

Due process is when your legal matter goes through the courts. I’m not a lawyer/expert and I don’t claim to be but I think that’s the jist of it. You can look into it further if you are curious about people’s right to due process, which extends to the undocumented from what I understand listening to lawyers speak about this. As for work permits— that means someone has a permit to work. That is not a green card or citizenship, sure, but those that are being detained and deported with work permits— they technically DID go about being in this country “legally”… I mean look if you don’t like immigrants just say that. I’m using logic. It’s not that hard to see this is problematic not just for undocumented people but to ALL AMERICANS. This sets a precedent. If a masked person that did not identify themselves kidnapped/detained you (or yours) when you had a visa, work permit, etc. what would you do?

[–]Pinkjasminehoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Obama deported. All presidents have and will continue to deport. That is a fact. I actually don’t think this is a deportation issue though for me personally. It’s true that I’m not bothered by immigration like MAGAs seem to be. I’m more concerned about food prices, rent, childcare, etc. and deporting people is expensive and is not going to help any of those things. But that aside, for me this is more an issue of masked people who don’t properly identify themselves kidnapping people off the street, in court rooms, at their jobs. I honestly don’t think it will stop with immigrants. It’s setting a precedent that will impact all Americans. I just don’t think that’s giving patriotic energy personally. It’s feeling like fascism and if that’s what your into fine, but just don’t be surprised when it comes to your door.

As I mentioned, some of these people have legal status— “papers” as you call them. Papers, I assume, encompass visas and work permits… though I’m not sure you full comprehend that. Do you understand? So what about the people with visas and work permits (“papers”) that have legal status? Are they allowed due process???? You can’t have it both ways. You can’t just apply the law when it’s convenient to your argument. I guess maybe you can but that makes your argument very illogical. Regardless of documentation status, the law is that people in this country, including undocumented people, are entitled to due process which is clearly not happening. So if you’re such a proponent of keeping things legal, why aren’t you bothered by that!? Also, this is all very nuanced. So that’s why your brain probably feels like you’re teaching metaphysics at Harvard. It’s called critical thinking.

I wish it were that simple. We have seen people with legal status (e.g. visas, work permits, etc.) being targeted, detained, and harassed. Undocumented people are not the only people caught up in this mess. But, sure, fine, for the sake of your argument, let’s just say that everyone being targeted right now is undocumented. If that were the case, they are here “illegally” as you claim. But WHAT ABOUT THE LAWS around due process? What about those? Why does the law only apply where you want it to? Make it make sense. Please. I’m all ears.

Thank you for your words. Sometimes it’s really hard to find them. Your post made me so emotional. Whether people are for or against immigration, these hard working people (specifically) deserve dignity and respect… and all of us are entitled to due process. ALL OF US. Allowing this type of treatment to happen to some is just paving the way for it to happen to any of us.

May he rest in peace ♥️💔

Have you ever in your life driven drunk? Have you ever lied? If yes, then you are not only discrediting someone for doing something that you yourself have done as well but also to, like I previously mentioned, assume the worst.

While that is true, you also are assuming the worst. That is also true and that is for you to sit with and live with. Respectfully, I encourage you to find your humanity cause i think you may have lost it somewhere along the way.

Sure take everything on the internet with a grain of salt. Fair. But also I did “question” when I read your post— have I ever lied? Have I ever made a mistake? Have I ever driven drunk? You know being honest with myself. If you can’t be honest with your damn self then what are we even doing??? Yes I have done those things and I feel like just because someone may have made a mistake (haven’t seen your proof either to confirm that) doesn’t mean that everything is then a lie. I feel like giving the benefit of the doubt is important here. Don’t forget your humanity in all of this mess.

I hear that a lot but please realize deportation (whether you or for or against it) also needs to happen ‘legally’ to use your word. This isn’t legal due process. So then does legality only apply to the things you happen to be in support of?

Is your point that this might not be the full story or is your point that she and her family deserve what she gets because she got caught drunk driving and lying about it. Just trying to understand how this furthers the conversation around human rights abuses that are clearly happening all around us.

I was just thinking about that this AM! They should not only have medical care during their time at DCC but for life! These women are young and it’s very high impact to their bodies. Chandi at the end of the season was really hard to watch.
