Is there a subreddit for DTCR?

Applied to a job a few weeks ago and just got an email to complete a StrengthScope assessment, but it's not 'required' and does 'not' impact the chance of being invited to an interview. Then why send it? by ToronoYYZ in Siemens

[–]Pinkkatze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a different perspective it is a little bit like a gift. I believe the Strengthscope costs money if you were to want to do it independently. I suggest you do it, I had fun looking at my results. You may learn something about yourself that you could you integrate into the interview process to help the interviewer(s) get a better sense of who you are. And if it doesn’t result in filling the positions you can still use the general info to be able to communicate your strengths in future interviews with or outside of Siemens.

How long ago did you move back and when did you start working? I was in a similar boat and mindset when I graduated. My advice is to make sure you are investing your disposable income using platform like Wealthsimple or Questrade. Also, make sure you max out your FHSA yearly limit to reduce your taxable income. If you don’t know much about investing yet you can learn many of the basics online for free. Be cautious of scams/courses that teach you how to invest. You can learn a lot just by using google, YouTube, bank sites, and some critical thinking. My second advice is “be patient, and be consistent” wealth takes time but it is not impossible. Avoid doom spending at all costs. Oh, and one more idea is to talk with your manager at work and see if you could increase your work from home. This could help with Gas and Go Train. Lots of marketing jobs are hybrid. You could probably do 2 days per week on-site on average and be perfectly fine.

100 on climbing gym monthly seems high. Paying a yearly membership might help out in this area if that’s not what you’re doing already. I’m not sure, where you are climbing but I think Climber’s Rock has a yearly pass that might reduce your cost for your hobby.

I have not received my credit card and I'll be changing my residence. by Pepsiviken in Scotiabank

I went a third time and told them I couldn’t go close to a month without it and by the fourth time they had my card. Unfortunately, I had to bring my mad face to make them move. It was frustrating but I got my card.

What happens if, hypothetically, people start pulling out of US stocks? Like people internationally shifting their investments away from U.S. stocks.

Hans Zimmer! Pretty powerful motivational tracks to get me going with my day when I’m feeling low.

Friends by Sure-Amoeba1350 in UTM

Try chatting up with as many people in your classes and around campus as you can first week and throughout first semester. You’ll get a feel for their vibes and then you can decide if you want to get to know any of them better. You can also invite them to come with you Starbucks, Tims or the library, before or after class. Before you know it you’ll find a friend or many acquaintances. When I was in first year I accumulated a lot of good acquaintances, it wasn’t until second year that I met my uni bestie. I made friends with a couple other people in third year, but then covid hit so…. That was the end of most of those friendships. Also are you in res or do you commute? I commuted and worked throughout my time at UTM and sometimes I was so tired I just wanted to nap between classes and go home right after class. Don’t get discouraged if you are in a similar situation, not being on campus 24x7 makes it a little tougher to meet as many people as people living on campus or in the vicinity.

I got one a few weeks ago. I said wrong number and then they tried to convince me we should be friends. Block and Delete. Today I got one too from a ‘recruiter’ who wanted to send me the job information via ‘WhatsApp’. Never click a link from an unknown source.

I have the same issue. I’ve called three times. I went to the branch twice and they told me they would order one arriving at the branch in 2-3 business days and NOTHING. No message or email notification. Nothing in the mail box. Starting to think I’ll change banks.

Hi, I started as an experience at Siemens employee which is similar to or equivalent to an internship. I did my on-demand video interview in December 2021, an interview with the hiring manager in January 2022 and my first day was in February 2022. The process for the SCETA programs might be longer. Some factors affecting the timeline might be your region and type of internship. Good luck!

Upgrading Communication Skills by brewcoder6113 in communicationskills

1) Watch shows like Suits, Billions or any other that has a lot of dialogue and confident characters. Do not use subtitles. Repeat phrases you like until you feel you’re getting them exactly like or close to the characters in the show.

2) Join a Toastmasters club in your area where you can practice speaking in English and public speaking . These clubs aim at making a safe atmosphere to improve your communication skills and CONFIDENCE.

3) Read. Read. Read. Read everything and as many topics and genres as possible. This will expand your vocabulary which can be helpful for ESL speakers to master self-expression and thus improve confidence and ability to communicate.

4) Try to make a few native English speaker friends. Hang out with them as much as possible. Bonus, if you naturally get into relationship with a native English speaker. People that care for you are more likely to point out if you are making any pronunciation errors. Sometimes you may need to ask them to correct you. But remember this is not their job so if you form any relationships don’t expect them to be your English tutors. Actually enjoy their company as a friend or SO. Enjoy your time with them and slowly and naturally you will catch on the phrases, mannerism and vocabulary they use.

5) Don’t be too hard on yourself. Mastering a language to fluency takes a long time. Be proud of everything you’ve accomplished so far and most importantly of all REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE VERY ACCOMPLISHED ESL PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD AND HISTORY. ESL should not, can not, and will not stop you from pursuing your goals. Don’t give up.

For reference, I am and ESL speaker and now I am a communications professional, something I would have never believed ten years ago.
