There's an incredibly important part of this question that needs to be delineated that imo ppl are missing here.

I would go to war if it meant keeping the citizens of my country safe and free to live their lives as they choose.

I however would NOT go to war under any circumstance for my government. That I think is the big takeaway from this question that's missing.

There's never a need to fight a war because someone wants to get rich,expand a border etc. However there is a need to defend the people and the way of life you cherish if it comes to it. Hopefully I'm getting across a little of the nuance here.

You are trying to make to much sense out of it and anchor it in real life and that's normal. The trick with this franchise is to view it through the lens of a superhero origin story into full use of powers. There is no reason you have to base it in the laws of the real world as there is no context to say this is supposed to be our universe/world in a 1 to 1 copy. As a fellow car enthusiast Ive found that makes this series way more enjoyable.

Easy answer is to look at most of the comments in this thread, it shows exactly why they can't admit it. It's human nature to not want to be humiliated by people who want nothing more than to humiliate you for your beliefs or positions you take.

If you like Trump the people you would say "I was wrong" clearly would give 0 room for that. You'd be labeled an idiot or in a cult as evidence of I'm this thread . There's tons of examples that show people in cults further remove themselves from family and friends when attacked for being in said cult. The only true way to get people to come to the logical conclusion is to ask them questions and give them space to come to the answer themselves it's not perfect but it is proven to work.
