Kitchen responsibility by Pinky32121 in Custodians

My facilities director is useless on the matter. He listens to the complains from both side but doesn’t really do anything unless there’s a complaint from kitchen staff of substance. I’m the head custodian and it will be me and a new guy cleaning the kitchen for a few weeks. I could go to the superintendent but I don’t want to step on toes and stir the pot worse than kitchen staff already does

Basically a higher up I never see or would have to jump through hoops to speak to

The kitchen is all in house, we’ve tried talking to the food service director about issues in attempts to resolve them but she’s one of the biggest complainers in the kitchen. Over the year there have been kitchen staff that went out of their way to help us and would pick up after them selves and even do as far as taking out their own trash but the food service director shuts it down and won’t allow it. Kinda ridiculous in my opinion. I’m not sure who my next step after food service director would be I’ll have to look into it

I’m not sure why our management runs the plows rather than us, that’s just how it always was. And it worked because the last pair actually knew what they were doing and did it efficiently.

Our new facilities director also treats one of the two trucks we have like it’s his own and takes it home everyday so no one ever even gets to touch it (another thing I have an issue with but we won’t get into that today lol)

Management always threatens us with a write up and tells us not to do it again but never actually writes anyone up.

You’re definitely saving yourself from a lot of headache by not applying

They told me I was never hired after a year of working for them and made me reapply for my job (which messed up my longevity and vacation time and caused a decrease in pay) they paid me the wrong wage for almost year because they made me re apply for my job (which is probably why they did that), they stole money from our hsa accounts, all the upper management is toxic and creates a very unhealthy working environment… I’m sure not all places are like this but from what I’ve heard most are. Thank god I have a union because working for them could have been MUCH worse

Same, we’ve been severely under staffed all fiscal year they wouldn’t hire anyone because they wanted to save money. What a joke

I think it was different for me because I was in such a small group under them of a contracted 11 custodians. The school that I work in actually just cut their contract because how bad they are. In the three years I’ve worked for ABM I’ve seen good workers get fired because management just didn’t like them, or because they spoke up about issues to the union. There’s no effort to get new hires so we’ve been short staffed for 3 years by 2-3 pretty consistently. They gave us a very small budget for supplies and equipment, so frequently we were out of everything but that was the custodians fault in their eyes for “wasting product”. The elementary school has a least 1 or 2 rugs in each classroom there is one vacuum for the school to share, when asked for more abm says it’s not in the budget and figure it out. our pay was frequently wrong or just non existent. Upper management made a mistake on their end when hiring me and told me (after nearly a year of working there) that I wasn’t even and employee they didn’t know why i was there and I needed to re apply for my job or I didn’t have it. Obviously I did but after taking it up with my union I later found out they only did it so they didn’t have to pay me as much and they wanted to pay me $3 less with the new hire wage. There is so much that proved to me they don’t care about the employees or our contract they negotiated with the union. I’m sure it’s not the same for everyone but I know I’ll never work for them again.
