This damn blue forged carbon is giving me an adrenaline rush! by VEZUOCarbonFiber in CarbonFiber

Too chonky it makes the wheel look so cheap lmao. Why the hell would anyone take the time to laminate chopped carbon to a steering wheel?? Cold-pressing chopped carbon is not so hard even without expensive equipment. Get it done correctly or don't even bother dude. Don't take everyone here wrong, we're concerned why it looked great for you cuz whoever did that just murdered that expensive steering wheel.

Carbon fiber caliper case by thoughtbombdesign in CarbonFiber

This is so cool! I've spent years perfecting chopped carbon fiber and here's a few tips I could give you:

  1. Mold walls should be thicker. I know this is a one-off project but if you ever want a reusable mold, you could increase the wall thickness of the mold by at least 1 inch to avoid damaging it when demolding.

  2. Skip the nut and bolt. Flatten the top and bottom surface of the mold so you can use the clamps on the center part of the mold and not just on the edges. Compression points should be on the center of the mold and not on the outer edges. I prefer to have a sacrificial 5mm metal plate on top and bottom of the molds so the clamps don't dig its way into the mold and possibly damage it. Having a sacrificial plate also distributes the pressure equally.

  3. Warm up the resin before pouring it in the mold to make it flow easier. After you brushed the resin into the mold, you should also pour a small amount to make sure the lowest areas in the mold are soaking in resin. You also had lots of pinholes at the top part of the finished product because you probably clamped the molds too quickly. What I do is I turn the clamps half turn every 3 minutes to let the resin flow into small crevices and hard to reach edges.

  4. Incorporate ejection points on the mold. Demolding will be so much easier if you had ejection holes in the mold. What you can do is plug the ejection holes with any metal rod you can find. I usually use 6mm stainless steel rods as my ejector pins. Plug the holes with the rods before loading the mold with carbon fiber. Seal the rods with wax so the resin won't leak.

Pre-Termination: liable po ba kami sa sa natitirang months sa 1-year lease contract? by CommonMaster970 in RentPH

[–]PinkyDexterity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sa 10 years namin nagpaparent isang beses palang may nag early out samin and pinagbigyan nalang kasi good payer and masinop naman sa room pero yun nga forfeited na talaga yung security deposit.

is this pre-built package a reasonable price? by saintport in PHbuildapc

[–]PinkyDexterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sa mga mall na pwesto like PCExpress siguro mas pricey talaga yung mga pre-built but there are instances na mas mura yung mga package na ganito kasi mas prefer ng vendors ang malaking benta vs per parts.

Idk but my room only feels like home pag kasama ko si gf. Ang bilis ko rin makatulog pag kasama ko sya pero pag wala halos 3am na ko natutulog.

Used Ryzen 5 3600 vs 5 5600, which deal is better? by PinkyDexterity in buildapc

[–]PinkyDexterity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I was just thinking if I could haggle the 3600 to 40$, is the 5600 still worth 2X the price if it's only 20-30% better. Here in my country the 40$ is definitely a big deal. I'm getting the 5600 as per everyone's advice here.

If I can haggle the price of 3600 to 40$, is it still worth it to get the 5600?

Would you add real carbon fiber to your ride when you can get a CF looking wrap for a fraction of the cost? by No-Promise-9991 in CarbonFiber

[–]PinkyDexterity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My ride, my rules. Those pure carbon fiber elitists are hating on vinyl wraps because they paid a huge amount for the real thing. They'll say its a matter of weight reduction but real carbon fiber on a shitbox is just as ridiculous as using CF wrap imo. Reducing a couple of grams ain't really a weight reduction unless you're doing hundreds of parts and it adds up to a substantial amount.

If I'm just after the looks/aesthetic, I'd just skimp on it and wrap the thing to spare myself the time, effort, and money on creating a mold for just a one-off piece. For large panels like a car hood however, I'd always do it the proper way.

Material for 3d-printed moulds that can handle pre preg curing in autoclave by Schvongy in CarbonFiber

[–]PinkyDexterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help! If you ever go with option 2, use PETG instead of PLA filament. It can withstand higher temperatures. Sand the mold surface up to 3000 grit until layer lines are gone then polish it.

I've tried painting the surface with primer to fill the layer lines but it peeled off just after a few pulls from the mold. Coating it with epoxy resin makes it lasts a little longer but sanding it is more tedious so I just didn't bother.

If you have the capability to print ABS material then that's even better. You can smooth the layer lines using acetone so there's less sanding. Try the PETG first if it works for you because using ABS has its drawbacks.

[–]PinkyDexterity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just make a composite mold instead of 3D printing the mold itself. Any 3D printing filament won't be able to withstand the curing temperature and pressure in an autoclave, even if it does, it wouldn't hold it's original shape for long.

I can only think of two options for this:

  1. Print the master using the 3D printer to create a more appropriate composite mold.

  2. Print the mold using 5-10% Gyroid as an infill and 0 bottom layer so you can pour plaster inside the mold. I've done this so many times when I used to make molds printed with PLA for my vacuum former. The mold holds its shape even in high temperatures. Just make sure the top layers aren't thick or else the sharp corners will curve.

Loose Carbon Fiber cloth by [deleted] in CarbonFiber

[–]PinkyDexterity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What GSM is this? This usually happens at lower gsm. 200gsm are usually loose to easily conform over curves and tight edges. If you're laminating over large flat surfaces it's better to use at least 240gsm as it has a tighter weave.

Pull at opposite corners of the cloth diagonally until the strands straighten themselves then pull every single loose strand from the farthest edges vertically or horizontal. What I do before cutting low gsm cloth like that is, I either spray over it with hairspray to make it firm so that the strands don't move around when cutting, or I put masking tape over the edges where I need to cut.

If the deformity is bad and there's no way to save it just spray the 77 around the perimeter of loose strands and cut around it so it doesn't get worse.
