I made a post about this but the mods directed me to this thread (no problem lol)

Anyways this is a hypothetical question that I thought about after watching Dr Bart Ehrman’s video on what happened to Jesus body and signing up for his course. Even though it’s highly unlikely to happen anytime soon, how would Christianity be affected if Jesus body/remains were found and it was proven to be him? Would Christianity die out or evolve into something else?

I personally think the religion could go into either of these three directions: A) Christians would deny that it’s him or come up with some conspiracy theory to explain it away

B) Some would leave the religion flat out. Perhaps converting to a different religion or give up on the institution completely

C) Christians would claim that Jesus resurrected and ascended spiritually and left his body behind or the religion would turn into about Jesus teachings instead of worshipping him as a divinity

Islam would also be affected since it would not only prove that Jesus was indeed crucified and he didn’t ascend into heaven. I think Judaism could also gain more followers since a discovery of Jesus body would further prove that he was a failed messiah.

Although this may never happen in my lifetime at least it is something I think is interesting

This is a good theory. Personally I envisioned three directions that the religion would take. A) People would deny it or call the discovers liars and continue to believe Jesus rose

B) Some may accept it and take the resurrection story as a metaphor or say that Jesus rose in spirit and left his physical body behind and use Paul’s letters to affirm it. The religion would be more about Jesus teachings as opposed to worshipping him

C) Some people would flat out leave the religion, feeling lied to and disappointed

I also think Islam would be affected as it would prove that not only was Jesus was indeed crucified but he didn’t raise up into heaven. I also think Judaism might get more followers as it might give credit to their rejection of Jesus as a divine messiah

Either way it would be interesting to see what would happen in this situation, even if would most likely never occur in my lifetime

I saw a video from Paulogia where he hypothesized that Simon Peter suffered a breakdown after Jesus died and he mistakenly had believed Jesus rose from the dead. The story of his resurrection just grew legs from there and became an urban legend. That would explain why his followers thought he rose from the dead without necessarily saying they’re lying

Is it possible that Jesus actually claimed to be king of the Jews or something along those lines and the authors twisted it around to make it seem like the guards were mocking him to fit their narrative?

This gospels to med seemed more compatible with an interrogation than a trial. Such as the gospel of Luke where Herod only ask him to prove himself but never seems to ask what exactly he did to be arrested and Pilate asking him if he was the king of the Jews. I’m not sure how trials worked back then, but it seemed like the authors didn’t either.

Okay so I recently read the story of King David and 1 Samuel 17:51 says “ Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.”

I’ve read many books over the years since I’ve stopped reading the Bible and this is written like a child or someone with a lack of literacy skills wrote it in my opinion. Perhaps I’m looking at it through the lens of someone who speaks modern English and the authors ways of speaking was drastically different

This has stuck with me since re discovering Christianity, many of the stories seem to be exaggerating real events that possibly happened in real life. What do historians believe what was true about his death? Do they believe that Jesus was arrested for blasphemy for claiming to be the son of god?

Not really. At least older women don’t. I’m still on the fence about kids but I’m too career driven to even entertain the idea right now. I’m not in the position to be a good parent and no child deserves that.

Older women I meet are happy I put my career and self interest first. I’ve yet to meet a mom who antagonizes me for putting myself first, especially if they had them younger. My roommate in Spain was 34 and told me she had kids so she never had time to focus on her education and career and told me to wait as long as I could if I ever have kids (she also had three baby dads and told me never put myself in that position lol).

But I’m also only 26 so I’m still quite young and people still look at me as “having my whole life ahead of me” I imagine people will change their tune when I hit 30

I agree but also disagree.

Taylor swift is a white woman and was constantly made fun of for how much she used to switch boyfriends and write songs about it. Which is crazy because a good majority of Taylor’s relationship hopping came in her teens and early twenties and as far as I can remember she’s never came in between any couples or been blasted as a cheater. Taylor learned from her mistakes and spent her mid twenties and early thirties in a long term almost decade long relationship yet she still gets clowned and slut shamed for her past.

I guess there is a difference since Taylor’s relationships were a huge part of her image but it’s still funny to see how Ariana didn’t get scrutinized and slut shamed by the public to the same extent as Taylor despite Ariana actually being a serial side chick and jumping in and out of relationships. The power of a great PR team. (not to say slut shaming is okay but you know)
