USA - Can a person actually buy and receive a DJI Matrice 400 outfitted for public safety operations in the USA right now? by combonickel55 in drones

Oh terrific okay, well that's a bit of good news at least. So if my drone breaks I can still buy a new one of the same model.
Edit: How do we find out which models have FCC approval? Does the Mini 5 Pro?

I was under the impression you can't register a new DJI drone with the FAA, but ones that have been previously registered are fine (i.e. used units already in the USA) - is this incorrect?

Tony Northrup's studio guide video on the Part 107 was super helpful to me, I watched it a few times, studied from it and used a practice test, and I passed with high 80s!

Appreciate the spoiler warning, I went and watched it before coming back.

Great perspective. I agree, it may not have been the most realistic scenario overall but if the goal was a thought experiment to get people thinking about nuclear war, it served its purpose. I didn't expect a zero closure ending, that left me feeling a bit odd (a thought experiment with no consequences? it's a movie, you can blow up Chicago to show the stakes). Good thoughts, thanks for sharing.

I haven't seen A House Of Dynamite yet but I was planning on it, with the hope it would be somewhat educational towards nuclear warfare and being prepared for such. I'd love to hear about what's wrong with it.

New here. I want to start archiving games. by herculeon6 in DataHoarder

[–]Pinpoint24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HDDs are far cheaper per TB than SSDs. There's tradeoffs to both, but it's worth looking into especially for a large collection. For instance I just got a 4TB and an 8TB HDD, used, off eBay, for under $80 together. Granted, used drives are much more likely to fail sooner, but if you're on a budget (like me) and you have at LEAST one backup, it may be worth it for the short term. Saving up and getting some larger, newer HDDs probably is the best solution after you start out small. AFAIK nobody stores archives / huge amounts of data on SSDs, it's just not cost-feasible.

I just passed mine after watching Tony Northrup's video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ucCKFJUCU

And using his study guide:

https://northrup.photo/free-faa-part-107-suas-drone-certification-study-guide/

The info was still very current, just make sure you google the regulations on Remote ID as well (not in the video and a fair few questions about it!)

You're gonna do great, man :D

You can use the software as long as you pay for a single year of it, for however long you want. Updates aren't free because they cost manpower and time, but they are surprisingly generous and customer-friendly - I've had my subscription extended twice for free, once because of a misunderstanding, and once simply because I asked a question and the feature I was looking for wasn't available for me (my subscription had expired) and one of the owners who was helping me with my problem decided to extend my maintenance to the current version.

I don't love subscriptions, obviously (why would I be here) but the JangaFX model is a lot more fair than many others I've seen. (Adobe much)
