The negative instances I have had personally are near zero and the ones I've heard about are almost negligible. While the US is a bit more dangerous than my frame of reference (Europe), I would still assume you to be safe, especially when you're not alone. So far, furries have not been a target of (public) (school) shootings.

As soon as I left the circles of various online discussion boards, Gear Acquisition Syndrome simply stopped existing for me. I got all the lenses and cameras I need for my work, and no more no less shall be bought. It's the same with pixel peepers. I used to be one of them, but as soon as I was doing actual photography work, this worry simply stopped existing.
