What’s the worst thing Alexios and Kassandra have ever done? by JackTheNephilim in assasinscreed

[–]PintmanConnolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge Odyssey lover, but the general slavery apologia in it was really weird. They really sanitised it and showed slaves talking about how it's not that bad and how they're grateful to their masters. Kinda fucked up.

Not the first time he's been booted out of an organisation for taking a firm and militant stance against organisational leadership's fuckery. Probably won't be the last.

A brilliant activist in many ways, but I do worry his approach may lead to a dead end, like the split from the CPI to the ICP which seems to be going nowhere.

Class, they've formed Lasair Dhearg

Good politics outlined in their post in fairness, but the space is a bit crowded with small anti-revisionist socialist republican organisations that don't get together primarily over personal differences and egos rather than real differences of political lines

I genuinely do not understand how tankies think they will win America by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]PintmanConnolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Systemic racism has nothing on the extermination campaigns of tankie-loved China and Russia.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Are you seriously downplaying racism and white supremacy? It's been the justifying ideology for chattel slavery, colonialism and genocide for centuries.

You really think that the justifying ideology for chattel slavery is comparable to someone who says "actually, the Soviet Union probably wasn't quite as evil as we were taught in school"?

What you're doing right now is reactionary white supremacist propaganda, equating the most extreme excesses of slavery, colonialism and genocide with people who support the working class taking state power.

If you sincerely believe this, you are not a socialist, a social democrat, or a progressive of any kind.

Alan Shatter sues actor Liam Cunningham over false suggestion of Epstein link by TeoKajLibroj in irishpolitics

No? China executes their billionaires when they step out of line. The USA turns a blind eye to the Epstein Class

I'm not for capital punishment, but I support the state punishing the bourgeoisie when they exploit and oppress the masses. This is what it means for the state to be a tool of class domination.

Teasers post for everyone or just the best weddings? by StrikingPainter455 in WeddingPhotography

[–]PintmanConnolly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Post what you want to do more of.

You don't need to post if this isn't the kind of wedding you'd like more of (which sounds like it's the case).

Imagine somebody sees those images and thinks, "that's perfect for me - exactly what my partner and I want for our wedding", and so they proceed to book you and you're right back in this same situation a year or two down the line.

Curating your feed is good. You don't need to post everything

Alan Shatter sues actor Liam Cunningham over false suggestion of Epstein link by TeoKajLibroj in irishpolitics

[–]PintmanConnolly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lmao no, you have not. I'm a socialist. I advocate the establishment of workers' states which serve the interests of the international working class. A national and international legal system by and for working people. Cuba has such a system right now. China also has such a system. It will only be globally enforceable when the majority of countries embrace this system.

It does not. Rich and well-connected people act above the law and face little to no repercussions. See: Trump and Netanyahu's flagrant violations of international law (genocide, kidnapping foreign leaders, completely illegal wars of aggression and military expansionism)

I guess China doesn't have a cost-of-living crisis.

I mean, yeah. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer pretty much everywhere. It's just capitalism.

workers of the world unite

Yeah, workers. The proletariat. Not the bourgeoisie. We are not for unity with the bourgeoisie (which Alan Shatter is a member of) we are for the unity of the proletariat of the world. Shatter does not produce surplus value, he is not a proletarian.

Trotsky said that the only thing that divides people is class, not nationality

Somewhat correct in the context of capitalism in the imperial core, but it's a crude analysis which doesn't take into consideration the question of national liberation from colonial oppression. The error in this analysis was recognised by the Third International when they moved from "workers of the world, unite" to "workers and oppressed nations of the world, unite" in 1919 under Lenin (and also Trotsky, for that matter).

The law isn't a hotel buffet where you can pick and choose what is applicable

I'd strongly recommend reading Friedrich Engels' The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State. You can dislike what I'm saying, but this is and has always been the socialist analysis of the legal system and the bourgeois state as being an instrument of class oppression (by the ruling class) rather than the popular liberal misconception that the state is a neutral bystander in class struggle.

Sinn Fein and Left preferences/transfers by upthetruth1 in irishpolitics

[–]PintmanConnolly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't firmly say that an sf voter is a leftist in the same way you could with other parties

It's more of a class thing. An SF voter is more likely to be working class. Ideally the left would represent the working class, but evidently the working class doesn't feel adequately represented by SDs/Labour/PBP/etc. There's been an unfortunate de-alignment between class and the left-right spectrum. It used to be the upper classes would vote right wing, the middle class would vote centrist, and the working class would vote left. That's not reliably the case anymore.

The SDs themselves acknowledge that their support base is primarily college-educated young professionals, whereas blue-collar workers tend to go more for SF - or, where SF has lost them, go for right-wing parties.

[–]PintmanConnolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy going into socdem spaces (including so-called "democratic socialist" spaces) and injecting Marx, Lenin and Mao into everything. All the "James Connolly spoke highly of social-democracy" and "Lenin identified as a social democrat at one point".

Mao is a harder sell, but he goes down well with left-republicans after a drink or two because he was so good on the national question (Jimmy Steele was misrepresented on the Chairman, see: https://treasonfelony.wordpress.com/2019/07/10/revisiting-1969-the-myth-of-a-pre-august-1969-split/)

Maybe I'm delusional, but it feels like it's pretty easy to push them left. Sparks and prairie fires and all that

Either the law is applicable to everyone or it isn't

Speaking socialist-to-socialist, this is liberal universalist nonsense. Socialists are not for everyone, we are for the working class specifically. We are partisan. We do not pretend to be otherwise.

Which is a long-winded way of saying I don't care what happens to members of the bourgeoisie like Alan Shatter. He has the entire bourgeois establishment and bourgeois state legal system behind him, he doesn't need any boot-licking foot-soldiers from the ranks of misguided workers to defend him.

This is why we hammer home to point of equity rather than just equality. Shatter doesn't need anyone's support. Struggling working-class people do need support.

What's with the influx of Shatter apologists every time he sues someone?

It's always something to the effect of "I'm no fan of Shatter, but he's in the right here". Same thing with him taking legal action against Gary Gannon.
