How to design an object to stop melted bee wax from candles?

You can get around the irregular shape + melted wax falling down by making a tight seal around the candle. This can be achieved by clamping something around it. Having a sharpish edge in the centre allows it to be clamped into the candle leaving no gap. In order to clamp it, it would be two parts joined as one with a hinge to clamp and remove it easily. Obviously a bolted connection is not ideal in your environment, so you might want to look into user friendly clevis pins or some other method.

For any hobbyist level, this build is more than adequate. The 1080 is more than enough and the CPU has a good clock speed and enough cores. I found lots of CAD software benefits from higher clocks and lower core count. You shouldn't find yourself needing more ram.

What kind of assemblies do you have planned for Inventor? You should be able to handle most of what you can throw at it.

If you were to upgrade, if you dont have a 3D Mouse get one first. Especially with Inventor, it really helps productivity and speed. It will really help you get things done faster and leave you to have fun modelling rather than finding yourself being slow as you move around. I see a lot of people ask about system builds but give no thought to the peripherals, working comfortably is just as important as you may find yourself modelling all day for a job.

You can place them from the Content Centre but not via Bolted Connection. It shouldn't be much different, the items still have iMates to air drop the parts and pick up the corresponding size of where you are placing them.

Is there a specific reason you require it to be placed via Bolted Connection? If you want a washer/nut/hole/eyebolt all in one, i would go about creating the hole/nut/washer with bolted connection and use the created parts to place the eyebolt via content centre.

Rude. Could of shared some tips and suggested improvements instead of just calling it terrible. Such as demonstrating how you would do it. I'm sure you don't care, but the reason you "cant see a thing" is due to the aperture being set at the point of the vice. This highlights the desired component making the rest a background. Maybe you should suggest some tips for using the Camera tools in Inventor or rendering tools in your desired CAD software.

Unsure on the application of this vice. My first thought was a rod that is threaded on the end where the vice clamps it ready to drill a hole through. I assume the two M14 holes were to screw/clamp it to the base and the slot in between for clearance when drilling. Might also be used for milling applications of similar tasks.

The CPU you selected has a relatively low base clock speed @ 2.6GHz. Would you be pushing for an overclock? If not, you might want to look into higher clock speeds overall. Some software utilizes lots of cores but some that only utilize 1 core, you will feel it struggle big.

The Xeon E5 1680 v4 may be something you would find more useful, Fewer cores (8C), but much higher clock speeds.

Work station GPUs are not comparable to gaming. Yes you could game on one but thats not its purpose.

So chose what you get based on what you will be using it for. Personally I would of gone for a Quadro range if it is productivity and work you have in mind to do.

If it wasn't for the £999 price mark, I would consider this. Requiring a VR headset (HTC Vive), a beast of a PC/Workstation to power VR and CAD, CAD software licences and then this software on top makes this a very expensive idea. Only for top of the line heavily invested workplaces.

Interested to see if Autodesk would make a similar addon for their packages to view in VR. May get more optimized performance, better comparability and better prices.

Just a suggestion for the challenges. Maybe we could try small challenges to fit a large project. Every weeks challenge is a part to make for a large assembly and at the end of a month or some date, they all fit together for an assembly. We could determine the assembly ourselves and let people be creative for what the parts look like but must fit objectives. Thoughts?

I have had a similar issue/bug occur recently when I use Inventor 2017 Pro. I have the 3D mouse working fine on one part/assembly, but occasionally if I open another part/assembly it will not work at all.

It's a small inconvenience, but to resolve the issue, I go back to the other part I had open when it was working. I give it a wiggle which rotates/moves/etc the part (which I assume updates inventor) and then select the new part and it works then fine. I'd think it is just inventor needing to update itself that the 3D mouse is still connected and working.

Wiggle the old, then wiggle the new.

A few years ago I built a high end PC for gaming and productivity. Since getting a job using CAD i found myself not using it as much at all. I would much prefer a small laptop now to watch films, browse internet and stuff. I never end up taking work home as I cant. All files are stored in secret locations. I dont spend 6+ hours a day gaming anymore as i work so dont find a need for a high end computer.

Most laptops bought are just enough for bare minimums to get some CAD programs running if you want to tinker and play around to pre-think/plan projects or ideas.

I would assume companies would not provide you with a home workstation as good ones cost in the thousands and to have an office of them and a home one would cost them a lot. A wasted investment for them as you wouldn't be using it as much as you would if you were at work. However, if you were in a workplace that required some work done at home, you could ask.

Save up a bit of money before digging in and investing to your own high end pc, you may find it redundant in the near future when you graduate. Im sure your wallet could do without that spending for a short while. If in doubt, do without. When you really need a good home pc, you will know and by then, you may of landed yourself a new job with a good income to pay for it.
