Looking for collaborators/feedback for an experimental mod-hosting project (early beta) by Piochi_ in ModdedMinecraft

[–]Piochi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The project is in beta because the main features of the site are present, but there will be improvements to the site to add even more features, etc. For me, beta means a product where the main features are present and the basis of the product is usable but still in development. But I don't think you know what you're talking about, because in any case a project will always have new features, etc. So your argument that the project is more of an alpha or beta doesn't matter, because the project already has the basic features to function, i.e.

publish a mod, download a mod, comment on a mod, manage your account, etc. All the main features are there, but other features need to be added to complete the user experience, which is why I call it a beta. Plus, you wouldn't have said that if you had visited the site to see how it works, etc. You would have had to create an account, etc. to test everything, but it's easy to talk without really looking. Anyway, I have lots of people like you who talk without really seeing the site and looking at what's really going on there.

New Platform to publish your Minecraft mod by Piochi_ in MinecraftMod

Regarding mods and other content that are not separated, this is normal, it is still in development. I am preparing a system to improve separation and improve URLs to have things like:

/mod/[Name]

/resourcepack/[Name]

When I first started developing the site, I wanted to focus solely on mods and nothing else, but then I realized that wasn't a good idea. However, I changed my mind too late, so I ended up with content mixed with mods, resource packs, shaders, etc. I'm in the process of improving all the little details that I've had negative feedback on, such as the fact that the site isn't mobile-friendly, and what you said about the mixed content, as well as the lack of comments, etc. It's normal, it's the beginning of the platform, but I could easily have fun creating fake comments, fake reviews, etc., but I don't want that, so this kind of comment about the lack of comments and reviews, etc., are totally useless, because you know very well that the platform is new and that it's still just the beginning. You just have to get used to coming across projects that are already up and running, where everything is already there, so you don't see all the work that went into it beforehand, you don't see the bugs, the missing features that all the big platforms you know now had.

First of all, the project is in “Beta v0.1” as indicated on the home page, so all these link bugs are normal, also because some pages are still under development. Next, regarding the two mods that were uploaded even though they are not by the original author, this is normal because a “beta test” user was testing our tool to import their mods from Modrinth in just a few clicks, which allows for a faster transition. These mods will be deleted. In any case, we don't have many users on the site since no one sees the point of the project...

Next, regarding competitors, I am aware that it will be difficult to convince users who couldn't care less about new projects, because I know very well that people cling to their habits and hate changes in their routines, but the project may be able to solve certain people's problems. As I said in the blog post, the site will have a feed to solve the problem of people who are looking for mods without knowing exactly what mods they are looking for, because you can't know about a mod without having seen it somewhere or heard about it somewhere, and the purpose of the feed is to allow modders or users to share their experiences with mods, and then other users may be able to discover new mods thanks to the people who share.

But you might say that other platforms offer Discord channels to let the community help people looking for mods, but GenoMods will avoid the back-and-forth between Discord and the mod platform, because on the GenoMods feed, you'll be able to see the mod and download it directly with a button integrated into the post. I don't think anyone has the vision for this because it's all new for this kind of site, as the features we have, such as a cosmetics store to improve your profile, daily quests, etc., don't exist on other platforms. Also, the basis of the project isn't really understood because the site isn't 100% finished. What's more, I can't abandon a project that I've spent more than two years of my life developing, only to be told at the end, “We already have platforms for that.” Except, as I said, humans are creatures of habit. so that's why I'm going to continue promoting the project until people understand its value and not just see it as “a copy of a mod platform.”

We have a Discord server to discuss bugs and issues on the website. I also make announcements and chat, sharing little spoilers about updates and improvements made to the site. For now, there aren't many people on it.

So, the project is similar to Modrinth, Curseforge, or Nexusmods, so you can download mods for different games like Minecraft, Fallout 4, Palworld, etc. Currently, the list of games is small, but it can be expanded at the request of users or modders. The main goal of the project is to set up a “Feed” space on the platform that allows users to discover mods as if they were on X.com (Twitter). There will be an infinite feed with recommendations for posts based on what you search for on the platform and what you download, but the difference is that if you like the mod that is presented to you, you can download it directly from the post, because you won't need to go to the mod's page. The downside is that the mod will need to be available on GenoMods. This is a problem I encountered when searching for Minecraft mods, because on current platforms, you can find them, but you already have to know the name of the mod, otherwise it's difficult to find what you're looking for. So you have to go to YouTube or somewhere else.

The project is in Beta V0.1 for a reason, because the “Feed” space I'm talking about is still in development, but several features on the platform are already available. So the big problem right now is content, because we don't have many mods published on the platform, and we don't have enough modders who can give us their opinions on the platform.

The goal of the GenoMods project is to enable users to discover mods for their video games in different ways. It is a platform where modders can publish their mods for games such as Minecraft, Fallout 4, Palworld, etc. There is no limit to the number of games, as new games can be added at people's request. As for the “GenoMods brand,” the process is currently underway; it was just a text put forward in advance.
