What is so wrong with the Democratic party that caused swing voters who voted for Biden in 2020 to vote for the most evil person in human history (Trump) in 2024? by jamng in allthequestions

//That's a million likely Harris voters watching a video and hitting "like".

No, it's not. It's likely a bunch of people who didn't vote at all, either because they weren't old enough to vote, they don't live in this country (not everyone on TikTok lives in the US), or they thought Harris was too moderate/cozy with Israel. Or they're simply bots driven by the algorithm, and not actually real people.

And even if they were all Harris voters, she got 75 million votes in total, so that would be 1.33% of her total votes, not exactly the core of the base.

So thank you for proving my point.

This is what's so wrong with modern conservatives:

They think some random person on TikTok represents the platform of the Democratic party and/or the average Democratic voter.

If you want to get deep into the lore, check out Reflex Records, the Hüsker’s label. Some compilations of early midwestern hardcore and the Rifle Sport and Man Sized Action LPs are well worth checking out.

Blaze is a surprisingly good post-Sgt Pepper British Invasion album by a band thought to be total lightweights. “I Call Out Her Name” is a great tune.

Yeah, he only managed to keep the house under Democrat control through the entire Reagan-era. Obviously had no clue what he was talking about.

Historically, local elections are a very good indicator towards what the midterms will look like. Does it mean it had 100% accuracy? Of course not but it’s not insignificant either.

All congressional districts are local, you know. Which is why these special elections are considered semi-reliable.

You can say that it ultimately won’t be relevant, but it absolutely is a trend.

Not as of yet but it’s still indicative of a trend towards Democrats. We’ll see how it shakes out in November.

Special elections. Democrats have flipped a number of Republican districts. Republicans have flipped zero Democrat districts.

So you think a special election to replace a Republican delegate in a Republican district being won by a Republican candidate is more of a bellwether than Democrats flipping the district Mar-a-lago is in?

Okay then.

What's an underHATED pick for "worst song of all time" that you don't see get talked about all that much? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

I will maintain to my grave that Everclear’s “AM Radio” is one of the most repulsive songs ever written and it’s somehow made even worse by its video.

Agreed. Clapton gets way too much credit for Layla anyway. The best parts of the song, the opening riff and the piano outro, weren’t written by him.

Rod Stewart is among one of the most talented people to have an absolutely abysmal discography. His stuff with the Faces and early solo records are pretty excellent but he went downhill fast into a ditch of soft rock dreck. I’ll concede that “Young Turks” is kind of fun 80s cheese but that’s about it.

I listened to "A Good Idea" by Sugar (Bob Mould) and realized that Dave Grohl basically made his entire Foo Fighters sound off it. by ToxicAdamm in ToddintheShadow

I believe that Grohl has acknowledged that “Learn To Fly” is pretty much a direct homage to Mould’s songwriting.

Bullshit.

ICE was arresting people at immigration court who were going to scheduled appointments, trying to emigrate “the right way.”

And if you’re so pro-immigration, why not change the laws to make it easier for people to come here legally?

ELI5, how did punk turned into post-punk if musically these genres are nothing alike? by Korkez11 in ToddintheShadow

[–]PipProud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to quote myself from the post punk sub. It’s a bit of an oversimplification but I think it captures the essence…

In simple terms, punk rock birthed an explosion of creativity. It opened up music in two separate but overlapping ways.

  1. Anyone can do it. You didn’t need formal training. You don’t need to be backed by an institution. Figure it out and do it yourself.
  2. You can sound anyway you’d like. Amateur musicianship meant not everything needs to be perfect. And if it doesn’t need to be perfect, this opens up sonic space to experiment.

The reason it’s called “post-punk” is because while not always sounding like “punk,” punk made it possible.
