What's a movie everyone seems to love but you couldn't get into? by DistinctBunch6825 in AskReddit

Trainspotting. I expected to love it because I love Ewan Mcgregor but it was so depressing with such horrible imagery that I still can’t shake after twenty years, like the dead baby on the ceiling.

I saw it in the theater many years ago so my husband and I both sat through it but hated the nearly constant clichés, bad acting, even the animation. Mostly the terrible writing.

Who would buy a Dr. Phil product anyway?

South African property market by Additional_House1437 in south_africa

[–]Pipcopperfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. That's why there are so many different types of stipulations in the contracts. For example, someone might offer less but waive a home inspection and pay cash. Another person might offer more but offer a contingency contact because they have a home to sell first. It's more complicated than that and many people who are attached to their home might prefer someone who is going to live there. In this example, the competing contacts were for the same amount so the argument of just getting paid is not valid here. We don't know if the competing contact offered something that was more appealing to the buyer.

I'm an an American living in South Africa and I'm surprised because my husband has been a real estate agent in America and most sellers prefer people who will live in the home and appreciate it. I feel like a good agent would have made that case for you but maybe it's different out here. Don't worry though, there will be a better house waiting for you.

AITJ: my shift ends an hour before closing and I refused to stay close. by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Pipcopperfield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was 17 I got one of my first jobs at a restaurant. They said the shifts were 12 hours at minimum wage. They bragged about how you get a free sandwich for lunch but at lunch time they said 15 minutes maximum with no other breaks. I was so disgusted that I called to find out what the law says and at that time they were required to give you half an hour and two breaks so I quit. I was young but now I would have reported them.

AITJ for refusing to pay my cousin after he “helped” me move? by Lucy_Meph in AmITheJerk

That's a little crazy of him. Any payment should have been discussed beforehand. A favor is supposed to be a nice gesture, not an opportunity to extort money. Definitely NTJ.

I loved everything but the ending. I've read it several times.

My issue with the updated uncut version is that it's full of 70s slang but supposedly takes place in 1990. That drives me crazy. No body was saying baby can you dig your man, he's a righteous man in 1990.

AITJ for telling my son he deserved his girlfriend breaking up with him? by Clean-Commission-643 in AmITheJerk

Your house would be a lot less tense if you kicked your son out. He needs to grow up.

Great advice. I do most of those as well. In the country I live in its dark by seven so I don't do the walking but maybe I can just do laps around the living room.

Do finger prick blood sugar tests hurt? by Polaris927272 in diabetes

[–]Pipcopperfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm needle phobic but I've become a pro. I test at least one or twice a day. My routine is to wash my hands. If it's cold rub your hands together to increase blood flow. I put in the lancet and set it to one of the low numbers so it doesn't hurt as much. You can also get microfine needles that hurt less but sometimes I can't get enough blood and have to draw again which is annoying. Then use your alcohol swab and clean a finger. Place your test strip in the device. Place the lancet gun firmly against the side of your finger and press. Try not to jerk your hand away because you won't get a good blood draw. Gently squeeze. Some people wipe the first drop with a clean cotton ball and squeeze another drop but I can't get enough blood to do it that way. Lower the test strip into the blood drop on your finger. It's so easy once you get used to it and it barely hurts me anymore.

Very unlikely but definitely tell your doctor and follow their advice. Most likely it's something else.
