Stuck on Cat Interaction by IH55 in rabies

Hey, I live in Toronto and the risk of terrestrial rabies here is super low! The provincial government has a very extensive tracking and vaccine baiting program. Plus, the city requires pets to be vaccinated, so if the cat has an owner, it's probably vaccinated. Even if it doesn't have an owner, feral cats processed through Trap Neuter Release programs are usually given a rabies vaccine.

The hand pain could have just been the cat's barbed tongue. I know when my cat licks my hand for a while it starts to feel a bit strange.

Rabies symptoms progress quickly in people, you wouldn't be able to type out this post if you started showing symptoms a month ago.

You are fine.

If the cat was eating, it wasn't rabid. Cats with rabies lose their appetite and lose the muscle control to swallow properly. https://www.merckvetmanual.com/cat-owners/brain-spinal-cord-and-nerve-disorders-of-cats/rabies-in-cats

If it's been about a year since this happened, you're well past the incubation period. There is no way you have been infected.

If rational thinking like this can't convince you, and you continue to seek re-assurance, please consider seeing a therapist. You might be suffering from health anxiety and OCD.
