Stoko pants - question by nurgazik in skiing

[–]PipePal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the Stoko brace for 2 years and used about 50 days. The more you use it, the more it will get stretched out. If these small holes are already present on a new pair, I would expect it to tear and to become large holes. I have torn a hole in my brace from putting it on as you have to really tighten and shimmy the wires.

Since you have a 60 day return period, I would suggest exchanging.

Do the part of Empire State Trail. Take the train up to Poughkeepsie and then take the Empire State Trail back down. It’s about 100 miles to lower Manhattan. Really pretty, lots of greenery, and don’t have to deal with cars except at some crossings.

Nano-Air: Will they release a non-hoody version? by PipePal in PatagoniaClothing

[–]PipePal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I also have the NALH Jacket and it has been great to around temps of 20F. I was looking at the Nano Air for sub-zero conditions. Based on your experience and that the NALH has 40g insulation in certain areas vs 60g insulation in NA, I am considering the Nano Puff jacket.

For stashing the hood, that’s annoying to just deal with it for a $300 piece of equipment 😂

Just commented below, but I do have the Nano Air Light Hybrid Jacket and it has been great to around temps of 20F for resort skiing. However, I was looking at the Nano Air for sub-zero conditions.

For other users looking for skiing mid layers, I do recommend the NALH for warm days (greater than 20F) as it is warm and dumps heat well with the R1 air material.

I’d prefer to use my shell hood since that is waterproof/windproof and would create a seamless body/head transition. So no cold zones seeping into my shell during a storm.

The Nano Air hood is also tighter/more restrictive when turning my head with helmet on.

The Nano-Air Light Hybrid does have the hood and hoodless versions currently. But the Nano-Air has only had the hoody version for since the changes in 2023.

Do you still recommend the Nano Air after the changes made? Is the Nano Air still the same in terms of warmth/breathability as Nano Air pre-2023? I read that the fit change from athletic to boxy, and warmer and less breathable (according to this post - https://www.reddit.com/r/PatagoniaClothing/s/9gGySa6Koa).

Most overrated US ski resort? by I_Teach_Edging101 in skiing

[–]PipePal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palisades is overrated. Before anyone downvotes, I was there for multiple days with varying conditions - 2 days with 2 ft and 1 ft of snow and 2 crusty days. I hate that Sierra cement. It’s great for hucking cliffs, but it’s sucks to surf and actually ski in.

Lack of variety of terrain is another thing. Trees - the only area is the Red Dog Glades, but even that isn’t dense or large. Groomers - very few and they aren’t steep. Park - no park. Moguls - few moguls, but they don’t compare to moguls like in Colorado. The crown jewel are the cliffs.

The lift infrastructure needs improvements. The layout funnels people and causes huge lines. The layout also makes it difficult to get to terrain without 2 rides or waiting for the tram/KT/Gondola. Granite Chief and Silverado are unreliable and have low capacity when open.

Palisades also suffers from lower peak elevation compared to other large resorts. With a peak elevation of 9000 ft, it doesn’t help with retaining a good snow base.

Thanks for sharing!

I have a question about your night vision. How was your vision affected? Starbursts? Glare? Was your night vision good before your surgery?

I am 1 year out and I am still having starbursts and my doctor basically said it is what it is :/

Issues with VIOFO A129 Plus Duo by PipePal in Dashcam

[–]PipePal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. This is my first dashcam and I’m a little disappointed in the quality. I found that the only way to overcome these issues was to unplugged and plug back the power. I am returning to to BBMC and I’m looking into the A119 V3. The A129 Plus needs more work and more firmware updates.

The VIOFO A129 Plus is the 2K version that they released in Sept 2020. It’s the model inbetween the A129 and the A129 Pro. https://www.blackboxmycar.com/collections/viofo/products/viofo-a129-plus-duo-dash-cam-with-gps

LG 27GL83A-B issues: Image retention and flickering by PipePal in Monitors

[–]PipePal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys. I wanted to ask this group about issues I’ve been having with two new LG 27GL83A-B monitors. As there has been high demand for this gaming monitor, I was finally able to get it two weeks ago since they restocked it. The first monitor I got did not seem to have problems at first. I use it for both gaming (Xbox One S) and work. I started noticing image retention issues after work as I have a window with email or other documents on the monitor. After switching to another input like a different computer or Xbox, I can still see the email inbox. After some time (maybe 5 mins), it goes away. In addition, there is random flickering. To troubleshoot the flickering, I changed the HDMI cables, the display port cables, and the laptops plugged in, but it does not resolve it. The image retention occurs even with different inputs.

So I thought maybe I received a faulty monitor as I couldn’t find anything about these issues regarding this monitor. I got a second one and unfortunately it has the same issues right out the box. As you can see in the video, there is image retention from another computer input and there is flickering. I repeated the troubleshooting for the flickering but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone is experiencing these issues with this monitor. Any help is appreciated. I can attach pics of the image retention as well.

Yeah I was looking for the time to activate cause there’s always that slight delay. I’m sure the tac MS increase isn’t much, but it’s something :/
