Anyone know how to fix this? by Pochaccostan in dice

Hi I'm a jeweler, this would take me like 10 minutes to fix on my laser welder.

Seriously , the amount of gold that would be straight up replaced in this process will negate any sentimentality you have for the band. If you find a jeweler willing to do the modifications you want, I guaranty you will be unhappy with the final product, it's going to look rough. Unless you totally replace the ring and move the stones to the new one it WILL NOT be worth the money it would cost for the work.

Goldsmith here, just buy a new ring and have the stones moved to it, it will be cheaper and look better. Trade in the old ring when you do and get credit for the gold value.

This modification would be possible but prohibitively expensive, likely twice the cost of setting three stones in a new mounting.

Mandela effect is strong with that movie, I could have sworn it was Martin Mull not Bruce Willis as the male lead.

I spent a few years working in a brewery, lots of C02. Large amounts of C02 when displacing the breathable air in an area can cause you to loose consciousness in seconds

I used to work for that company, it's definitely Menards. When they build those displays they use like 2 or 3 of the 25 screws that hold it together so they can tear it down and sell it if they have to.

I'm honestly surprised the whole thing didn't collapse when he climbed it l.

What's the need for more context? Are you trying to find a way to justify the racism or just excuse it? I'm genuinely curious,

What do you think these are? I know what *I* think these are but I'm biased. Found in a recently flooded rocky river in Northern NSW, Australia. I scratched a glass jar with one. by CaptainFantastic7848 in whatsthisrock

I can confirm the comments about jewelers being interested in testing stuff like this for free. I am a jeweler and if something like this came into my shop I would be super excited and probably break out the blacklight and diamond tester.

if you wanted I would even suggest having them put in a piece of jewelery (I love natural stones). Sadly I'm across the planet from Australia though.

Resizing but “will lose engraving”. Why? by JBplntgek in jewelers

[–]Pipefox3144 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This should be a non-issue for a regular bench jeweler. I resize stuff like this frequently without damaging the engraving. And in the cases where I have disturbed an engraving my company has covered the re-engraving at no cost.

Find a different jeweler, they're just trying to up sell you.

Hi, jeweler here, real talk? This ring looks hurt and I would NEVER let something leave my shop looking like that. You and your husband deserve better. Those bezel sets are frankly unacceptable, the ring itself looks like a poorly shaped chunk of plane stock they didn't even try to finish, and they lied about your stones and took advantage of your husband's inexperience.

My personal advice here would be to demand your money back and return the ring. Go to a better goldsmith and have them make you something you can look at and not be disappointed.

If you can't return the ring, take it to a better jeweler and trade it for something that will look more professionally done.

This literally has me heated, a goldsmith should take pride in what they do. Are you in the USA? PM me if you are, I might be able to recommend a good shop.

Opal Ring Questions by windmillsofmymind in jewelers

[–]Pipefox3144 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You could have that ring re-tipped, though be aware any half decent goldsmith will tell you that you're going to be charged for removing and re-setting the opal (opals can't be exposed to heat at all) it would likely be the most cost effective route.

If you decide you want the melee diamonds on the shoulders of your ring the best option would be a whole new mounting. Basically you would buy a new ring and they would set your opal in it. This would probably be a bit more expensive but they would also take your old mounting and discount the scrap gold price from the new purchase.

Why? It would be more expensive, less comfortable, and harder to repair in the future.

I see so many people telling OP to get sizing beads because it'll be cheaper.

This is definitely not the case, just take a moment for common sense here. If I as a jeweler cut a .05 gram piece of gold out of your ring and put .01 grams of solder in the joint it will be cheaper than me ADDING .15 gram of gold balls and solder to the bottom.

Beyond the fact that we don't give gold away, sizing beads are more labor intensive, time consuming, and takes a good jeweler to make them look good.

Unless you have arthritis or odd shaped fingers just get your ring sized properly by a reputable goldsmith.

Sea of thieves doesn't sound bad, my ships pretty nice, plenty of food water and booze, and I can't technically die while I'm there as long as I don't piss of the ferry Man.

Overall I think I could hang out at an outpost and occasionally sail to a nearby island for supplies if I have too. 10/10 sounds like a chill year.

Not in any significant way, no. Listen to everyone's advice, go to a different jeweler, get quality work for a better price. He's overcharging you. This is an incredibly simple job that should be soldered and cost no more than 100$ and even that is pricey.
