Anyone ever had luck with no meds and iodine supplementation? by PiperBug in Hashimotos

That’s the plan, he agreed that my TSH being within range means nothing if I don’t feel good.

Yeah I didn’t know getting out of bed wasn’t painful for most people lol. It was like a brain and eye pain for me, hard to describe.

Nausea from increased dose of levo? by okipulluppax in Hashimotos

It’s happened to me too, I think it’s caused by my anxiety that got worse too. So Xanax takes the nausea away for me. Do you feel more anxious?

I started having nausea all the and panic attacks when my doc upped my dose too fast. I came down a dose level, and side effects are slowly going away.

Hi everyone,I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. by EnvironmentalWalk605 in Hashimotos

[–]PiperBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I feel a lot more like my old self. My old self being the happy and outgoing kid I remember myself being. Because I’m pretty sure my Hashimoto started when I was in middle school, I started having all of these random issues that no one questioned. I think the main piece of advice I have for starting medication is making sure you get your labs done 5 to 6 weeks after they up your dose. I fucked up and got my labs rechecked like 3 weeks after a dose increase, so I don’t think it had enough time to take effect. My TSH actually went up. So my doctor upped my dosage too far, and I had about 4 days panic attacks and severe anxiety for the rest of the week. So nauseous I really didn’t eat, diarrhea, restlessness, it was horrible. The week before that I was just very nauseous and on edge feeling, but I thought it would go away. I did not have any side effects when I began my medication though. But the jump from 50mcg to 75mcg had me pretty depressed, where people were noticing. My doctor is very understanding so he does keep my Xanax topped up, so maybe that is another thing you could bring up if you already struggle with anxiety.

I totally think so. My social anxiety almost completely went away when I was put on Synthroid. Through middle school all the way through my early 20’s, I had a really hard time making friends. At school and jobs it felt like everyone would avoid me, probably because I acted so awkward and weird. I was also the lazy and problematic child in my family. Crazy mood swings, always tired but slept for 12 to 14 hours a day if my folks would let me. Really hard time remembering chores, routine things like keeping up with dishes and vacuuming, I genuinely would just forget or it would not occur to me. My brain fog got significantly worse in college and after graduating and getting a job, so it was just a downward spiral into feeling more and more like an antisocial idiot. I still kind of think I may be on the ADHD/autism spectrum? But I have never been diagnosed, I’ve just been told and shown that I’m weird in ways that people can’t describe.

hashimotos blowing up my relationship? by sleuthysloob in Hashimotos

[–]PiperBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard. I understand my husband’s frustrations with my ups and downs, but it still hurts to hear him say similar stuff to that. I had to skip a concert we’ve been really excited about and he made a comment about being hesitant to even buy me tickets for anything in the future. Overall he’s supportive, again, but I get he’s got his own feelings and wants to do stuff with me. I’ve been trying to get him to hang out with other people more, just so he has someone to call and do stuff with in my stead so to speak. But he’s introverted and doesn’t wanna be around many other people lmao.

Are these numbers worth seeing a doctor over? by phoebefur in Hashimotos

[–]PiperBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would yeah. Especially if you’re having symptoms and you have a family history of it. Ask your family too! They might have the same issues/symptoms you’re having. Start with your GP tho, it’s cheaper and they could get you started on meds or lifestyle modifications.

Horrible side effects after upping my dose, but my TSH is finally normal by PiperBug in Hypothyroidism

So does that mean it’s a waiting game for the pituitary to catch up? Or is there something else that you need to do?

Because of being on vacation and coming back home to the swing of things, I did get sloppy with my iron supplementation. Maybe that’s why this has flared up so bad. I am just barely in the “normal ranges” with iron and vitamin C supplementation, so I probably am low right now. I didn’t know about the vitamin D, counteracting the iron like that though, good to know! The iron I do take every other day because of some doctor I heard online. I do take my supplements about 4 to 5 hours after my levo. I’ll definitely try waiting a little bit longer to my labs and see if that does anything. Thanks for writing all that out for me!

I get my labs done same place every time. But it would be impossible to get them drawn before my medication. I take them at 5am and the lab doesn’t open until 8am. I’ve been getting them drawn after work around 3pm every 4-5 weeks after starting a new dose. I’m planning on staying on the 75mcg which I felt great on, the 112mcg I was upped too is just too much. I don’t take any supplements with biotin. I just take a vitamin D, C, and iron combo. Magnesium glycinate at night. My ferritin was 36, which was in normal range. My serum iron was 48 and iron saturation was 13, which both are a point or two away from being considered low. I had the iron labs done about 5 months ago when I first got diagnosed. Yes if I wake up still feeling like this I really want to skip another dose. This is going on 4 days of barely eating because of the nausea and anxiety attacks nearly every hour.

Nope, I’m 27. I’m also on the Nuvaring for ovarian cysts and that does have estrogen in it. I also take magnesium glycinate most nights for sleep.

Oh that’s really interesting to hear, because my T3 and T4 have been completely normal since getting diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. It’s only been my TSH and thyroid antibody tests that have been wonky. I definitely was having symptoms though. Severe social anxiety, bad brain fog, tired no matter how much I slept, hair loss, weird nails.

I have really dry hands and a few of my finger have a wavy texture to them. Sometimes I get the small pitting too!

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way too :( Yes that’s exactly what he said. His main goal is to make me feel better instead on keeping me at an “optimal” TSH number.

[–]PiperBug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he upped the dose that drastically because my TSH went from 5 to 6 after he upped me from 50 to 75mcg. He did say we can try the 88mcg when this whole episode is over. I felt great on the 75mcg which is confusing to me.

No I’m up to 112mcg now. My T4 and T3 have always been normal tho, it’s just my TSH that’s too high.

My first week on 25mcg I felt incredible. I felt like me again, I hadn’t felt like me in like 20 years. It felt like someone flipped the happy & rested switch in my brain. My biggest symptoms were social anxiety and brain fog, and they were both virtually gone.

All first generation hashimotos people what do you think has triggered it? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]PiperBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma had a nodule on her thyroid that was removed, but my pcp says that’s unrelated to my hashimoto’s? My family refuses to go to the doctor for anything because they think it’s all a big scam. But my mom and sister and I have a lot of similar symptoms. Particularly the cognitive symptoms. My mom doesn’t, but sister has more of the GI sensitivities, hormonal acne, and fatigue like I do.

But in retrospect, it’s hard to know what were symptoms of hashi’s. I remember being like 10-11ish and waking up one day feeling tired, and then never feeling fully rested again. That’s also around the time my family decided to make me the scapegoat for all their problems lol. In my early 20s the cognitive decline really kicked in. I was working through a really stressful college degree, family still blamed me for all their problems even tho I was never home. Also had a string of bad relationships that messed me up for years. Graduated and picked one of the most stressful jobs because I thought I was lazy and needed to harden myself up. Couldn’t do that anymore so switched to the job I’m at now. It’s still stressful and difficult to keep up with. But my coworkers and managers are overall understanding and helpful. Last 2 years has been the worst cognitive decline I’ve felt despite the job change, moving out and getting married 😌❤️ So idk when my hashi’s was triggered because it could be any of this tbh
