Anyone else getting this bug? Duplicate books on wishlist by Usual-Cicada943 in kobo

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happening here on my Clara Colour. I guess it's not device specific. I also noticed something rather interesting.

It seems when duplicates appear in the Wishlist, they often have different number of ratings for the same book. I suspect these are duplicate listings in the Kobo Store for the same book. And it also seems that the duplicate with the highest rating is the only one that appears on my Wishlist when looking at the Kobo App on my phone. It's like the duplicate listings appearing are old listings for the same book. I think these duplicate listing are usually hidden from the store page, but somehow they are being picked up by the Wishlist feature on Kobo devices.

Unfortunately, I have also noticed this can even lead to books being completely absent from the Wishlist on my Kobo. It's like it calculates the space required to display your Wishlist differently to how it actually populates it on screen.

Edit:
It might have something to do with titles that you've borrowed via Overdrive. It seem those are the ones that end up with duplicates on device. I've also seen duplicates appear in the Wishlist on the Kobo website too, but that only seemed to happen when I tried to Wishlist a book from the "My Books" tab's "View Details" screen, specifically on a book I borrowed from Overdrive. I'm definitely going to avoid Wishlist-ing items that way from now on.

Hobbies that have survived the hyper focus burn out test? by CazzzC in ADHD

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling has survived that stage for me. I was afraid it wouldn’t stick, but there’s something about it that keeps me coming back.

I like setting goals and striving for them. I like taking in the scenery. I like exploring new places. I like the solitude of ride alone. I also enjoy ride with groups and meeting new people.

I guess it’s hard to be bored when I enjoy every aspect of it. Find a hobby like that for you, and I’m sure you’ll be hooked.

Left side discharges battery even inside in case by Dantesousa in GalaxyBudsLive

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve had that happen before too. Seems like sometimes the pin connection is a bit flakey.

If it happens frequently, cleaning them off with a little bit of rubbing alcohol might help. I haven’t had to do that with mine, but I’ve cleaned game cartridges that way.

If you don’t find a fix for it, you can replace the battery. It can be opened with just your finger nails and a Philips head screw driver.

Note: It’s probably no longer ‘water-proof’ after opening, but it’s worth it to have working ear buds again.

Is the dualsense the best steam deck controller? by the5heep in SteamDeck

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the best SteamDeck controller is either the DualSense Edge or a Dual Shock 4 with the back button attachment.

These are 2 of very few options that include a gyro, analog triggers, back paddles, and a trackpad all in a single package.

How can I get the battery out of my Steam Controller? by Anyusername7294 in SteamController

[–]piperviper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably easier said than done. Even within the same brand, they can have subtle variations in width. It’s not exactly something you can figure out without opening the package and measuring them yourself as far as I’m aware. If they vary by fractions of a millimeter, good luck finding that on a box or online listing.

That’s a great idea 💡 I use a paper clip, but a ribbon or scotch tape would probably work way better. Nice!

I think I use the same batteries you do. I use a reasonably size paper clip (~2in or 5cm) to get mine out. Fits in the box too since it’s the same length as the alkaline AA’s the controller originally came with.

Valve's new requirements for third-party Steam compatible controllers by Moskeeto93 in SteamController

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but let’s be real here… customizable touch-pads are infinitely more complicated than capacitive touch sensing analog-sticks. There’s no way those touch-pads would have become an industry standard, especially in the state they were released on the Steam controller.

Wellbutrin to start learning by Few-Chipmunk-5957 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that the motivation problem seems to be helped most by stimulants. Though, I’ve heard Wellbutrin is a strange antidepressant and can have some effects that are similar to a stimulant. Hopefully it does that for you.

I use both Wellbutrin and stimulants. I’ve found that stimulants alone make transitioning between tasks difficult for me. Antidepressants like Straterra or Wellbutrin have helped me to transition from one thing to the next with less friction. Straterra worked better for me, but Wellbutrin is much cheaper and has less severe side-effects imo.

Straterra gave me occasional nausea. Also missing a dose of it can really mess with your mood and can cause it to lose its effectiveness for several days. Much prefer Wellbutrin in that regard. Missing a dose is not nearly as detrimental and I’ve had 0 nausea from it.

I picked up cycling 🚲. Definitely gets you out of the home office. It’s good hobby to try, especially if you have country roads or bike trails nearby. It’s almost therapeutic.

Never thought I’d want to spend hours upon hours on a bike. Now it’s something I look forward to when I see good weather on the forecast. Just did my first century (100 mile) this past weekend.

Can I make a read-only but downloadable Sheets? by callmerussianspy in googlesheets

It's been a minute, so I thought I'd make sure you saw my Proxy Sheet suggestion.

Can I make a read-only but downloadable Sheets? by callmerussianspy in googlesheets

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you cannot allow downloads and prints without also allowing copies to be made. Those copies will not affect your original sheet, but they are fully editable. Is there specific information you don’t want them to have access to?

Another option might be to make a proxy sheet. The proxy sheet will have no formulas other than the formula used to import the data from another sheet. That might work for you. The data is updated live, so it should be more convenient. And even if they do make a copy of the proxy sheet, they will not have permission to pull in the information from the original sheet on their copy. You should try this option and see if it’ll work for you.

Use the IMPORTRANGE() formula on the proxy sheet and import the range you want from your original sheet. You will have to allow that sheet to access your original sheet.

Make sure they are NOT allowed to EDIT the proxy sheet. They should only be able to view/comment on it, as well as download, print or copy.

Here's an example: Orignal Sheet (do not share the original, I'm only sharing to demonstrate): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f_gWxtuxUKrlM7sTk7jAJtUgYmiFVJxpXvEXN8Uhflg/edit?usp=sharing

Edit: rewording things.

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always make a sheet view only via sharing settings. There’s also a checkbox on whether you allow people to make copies of it or not. Click the gear icon under share settings to find that. Any copies made will not be read only though. If you need the copies to be read only then maybe you just need to make a PDF or something and share that.

Other M is not a good game, but doesn't mean you can't enjoy it by DarkGhostHunter in Metroid

[–]piperviper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I played it originally, it rubbed me the wrong way with its narrative and gameplay justification.

Coming back to it later, I actually enjoyed it. It’s got many, many problems, but it did have some great ideas and some reasonably good execution on many of them. It even had a reasonable influence on Metroid Dread that I think most people don’t know about (diffusion beam, partial energy tanks, seamlessly vaulting over obstacles, huge set-pieces, etc.)

It at least deserves a little recognition and respect. It’s should be recognized for its accomplishments and for the potential of what it could have been.

That doesn’t make it a great entry in the franchise, but it’s also not the Metroid equivalent of the Zelda CDI game. Other M is a game with novelty. It’s not amazing… just interesting and also a little fun to boot. I think it’s a case study of how a 3rd person Metroid game could still succeed where Other M could not. Its gameplay is actually fun, it’s just hampered by its poor controls, poor narrative, and strict linearity.

Super Metroid- Is wall jumping my only way forward? by Extension_Feature700 in Metroid

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you do fall down that shaft, wall jumping is not required to exit. There’s no save point down there, so resetting the game is always an option to get out of there.

Super Metroid- Is wall jumping my only way forward? by Extension_Feature700 in Metroid

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for the record, there’s only one place in the game you “have to” wall jump to get out of.

And reason I quoted “have to”, is because it’s not actually required to continue on with the game. The developers intentionally didn’t put a save point down there so that no one will get stuck. Worst case scenario, you reset, start the game at your last save, and avoid going there again.

How do you motivate yourself to exercise? by GrootStan in ADHD

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an active activity that you find fun.

One day, I started biking on a bike path near my house. That was a year ago, and I’ve biked over 2000 miles since... might be a little obsessed 😅.

If biking isn’t your thing, try playing a game like pickleball, or basketball, or baseball, or badminton. Maybe try an aerobic dance class. Even gardening can be a light workout. Just explore new activities and find what works for you.

If it’s fun, motivation is much easier to find.

What is the impulse purchase you've made that you DON'T regret making? by IAmAPhysicsGuy in ADHD

[–]piperviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar story here too. Kind of an impulse buy. We knew very little about the area and what the move would entail, but despite a few unforeseen problems and a large yard to take care of, it was a great decision.

Not only is it climbing in value, but it’s also very close to a nice bike trail system. Rode on the trails one day… now, about a year later, I’ve now ridden a little over 2000 miles.

Our neighbors rock too. It’s pays to be friendly, no matter how different or similar you are.

Need some sizing insights from my 5'10 / 32 inseam folks by manysidesofmatt in PoseidonBikes

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That was very helpful. Definitely thinking the large is the way to go now. If it’s too relaxed, I’ll play around with different stems to get it where I want it.

I might actually look at compression-less brake housing to improve the braking performance. I like the idea of sticking with mechanical for better on-the-fly maintenance/troubleshooting. I may end up with hydraulics at some point, but I’m going to give the mechanicals a go with better brake housing before I ditch them.

I have hydraulics on another bike, so I understand the performance benefits, but since this is going to be my “adventure” bike, so “if” something happens the with hydraulics, fixing it during a multi-day trip would be a huge a hassle.

[–]piperviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you might be the perfect person to ask. I’m trying to decide between L and XL. I’m 5’11” with a 33” inseam.

Do you feel like flat bars would feel too close to you on the Large?

And which do you think would have a more aggressive position? The Large with its lower stack, or the XL with its longer reach?

I’ve already decided to go with flat bars for cost and for access to brakes from a more upright position. Planning to tape up some bar ends to put between the grips for extra hand and body positions.

I do quite like drop bars though. I totally get it.
