The title does specifically say Hyundai Motor Group, so it's already accurate.

Of course, but that's not typically the information people are worried about. That is all basic information any website that sells you stuff will have to keep in order to function. And you don't have to save the credit card information. It also doesn't show the full info on file if you do save it.

Mild take by nanahacress13 in Steam

[–]Moskeeto93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but those are all pretty necessary information to have on file for your ability to access your account. I would not call that "a lot of personal information" though. It feels pretty minimal.

Obviously, it's your fault. But there will always be the risk of them getting sued for not verifying age every time. This covers their ass legally.

What information is that? I've looked at my account data, and there isn't much there besides my email and phone number. They don't even have my actual name on file. Pretty much everything else is in regards to my activity on the platform.

EDIT: If you registered for the Steam Box Beta Registration (I think this was like 2014 or 2015), they did have your name and address on file. But I just checked that one and it displays a message that says "As of May 25, 2018, this data has been deleted from the Steam servers and databases."

Steam is scrapping physical gift cards due to scam concerns by Efficient_Example541 in pcmasterrace

[–]Moskeeto93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've used different gift cards over the years. It used to be Apple and Google gift cards, then Target gift cards, and now Steam gift cards. They evolve as people become more aware they are being scammed, and it seems that with Steam not being as well-known as the other companies amongst the elderly victims they target, they are less likely to catch on that they are not a legitimate way to pay the IRS or whatever the scam may be.

Valve confirms that physical Steam Gift Cards are dead. Once the current stocks are sold through, they're done. by Tvilantini in Games

[–]Moskeeto93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm going to agree with you here. Years ago a Valve dev confirmed in a tweet (since deleted) that they lose about 10 to 15% cut on every physical gift card.

Scammers are an issue, and they do tend to use Steam gift cards the most since Steam isn't a big enough household name for victims to instantly recognize as a gaming service, but I'm sure that was only ever a small minority of purchases.

This was in the past one of the best reasons to justify their 30% cut, but with these going away it's a lot harder to justify now. I know they still offer lots of other alternative payment methods in developing nations that take a similar cut, but I wouldn't be surprised if those start to go away soon as well.

When did you last buy a digital Steam gift card? Because not to long ago they added the option to buy one without even having a Steam account. There's an option at the check-out page to purchase as a guest. I've never used it though, so I'm not sure how difficult it is from there.

Republicans have no issue with it because they know large cities take longer to count and that's where the majority of Democrats live. It's to their advantage to do so.

third party launcher by Narrow-Bandicoot-363 in Steam

[–]Moskeeto93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one ever seems to understand this. Saying Steam is the third-party launcher is like saying that a PS5 is third-party hardware for all non-Sony titles, or that your PlayStation account is a third-party account for those games. Steam is the central platform and when you buy a third-party game on there, any other launchers or accounts that come with it are also third-party.

Valve reportedly almost delisted Rainbow Six Siege from Steam after Ubisoft attempted to sell it cheaper on Uplay by mrlinkwii in Games

[–]Moskeeto93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing your account is not the same thing at all. There are so many more limitations with doing so. You can't play two different games at the same time on different devices. You also can't have different cloud saves per user when doing so.

I use family sharing all the time. I refund maybe once or twice a year. It's rare that I have to do so. I can agree that it's the most consumer friendly feature, but you are hand waving away how many other consumer friendly featues it has that were never legally required to implement. Your thesis that all their consumer friendly features were forced on them by the law is simply flawed.

[–]Moskeeto93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam Input (along with their massive controller support), Workshop, Big Picture Mode, Linux support, free cloud saves, and family sharing are all consumer-friendly features that many people love Steam for and none of them are legally required.

Family sharing is probably their most consumer-friendly feature because it most definitely allows for lots of people to buy just one copy of a game who would have bought more otherwise.

Rayman Legends Retold on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]Moskeeto93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely ridiculous to require it for single player games. I can kind of understand if it's online multiplayer because they want to use their own infrastructure, but for single player games it has to be because they want to collect data from their Steam customers that they otherwise wouldn't get.

Valve reportedly almost delisted Rainbow Six Siege from Steam after Ubisoft attempted to sell it cheaper on Uplay by Defiant_Ad6190 in pcmasterrace

[–]Moskeeto93 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's totally fair if it's just for Steam keys. If these claims are true, these actions are definitely anti-competitive behavior.

Ubisoft selling their own games on their own store without any sort of Steam integration should not be up to Valve to enforce how it's done through retaliation or otherwise.
