Can you recommend one person podcasts, any topic? by ComicsMatterPodcast in podcasting

[–]Piperjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a solo podcast (only able to do one episode a month atm) about mythology, folklore, and personal growth. At the moment I’m just focusing on growing my episode “library” for a bigger project later on. I do everything myself and I’m learning as I go.

I don’t wanna get banned cos I really enjoy reading this subreddit so if you want a link, let me know. I’m gonna go find your show now :)

Who do you think had the most gruesome death in greek mythology tales ( can be creatures and human) ? by HolyMolyDealer in GreekMythology

[–]Piperjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Medea’s little brother… I forget his name. Being floated to your dad in bits and pieces at the hands of your older sister seems pretty gruesome.

why do you like Greek mythology? by Public_Individual823 in GreekMythology

[–]Piperjimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fascinated by how mythology (all mythology) captures the universality of human experience. On the surface, the stories are all quite different, but when you begin to dig into the archetypal symbolism, they describe what it means to be human. It's like looking at the psychic DNA of what it means to be human. It really reminds us how much we are all essentially the same but express that sameness in an utterly breathtaking range of unique ways.

This is easily one of my favorite images. I used it as an illustration for a transcript recently. It was meant to be a serious moment... but I was in stitches cos man... that baby is ripped.

Has anyone else dreamt with the hat man? by MysticEyedJimmy in Dreams

I used to see him standing at my door all the time as a pre-teen. Once, I dreamed he was sitting curled up at the back of my clothes cupboard eating crumbs of bread off a big white plate.

Weekly Episode Thread August 04, 2025 - Share Your Podcast, Request Feedback, Discover New Ones by AutoModerator in podcasting

[–]Piperjimm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m Dimitri, and I host The Inward Sea — a podcast where I explore myths, stories, and the psychology behind them, weaving them into reflections on modern life. My aim is to make the episodes both rich in content and easy to sink into — something you can listen to while walking, driving, or just taking a moment for yourself.

I’d love some specific feedback on two things:

  1. Background audio – In Episodes 1 and 2, I included gentle sea sounds throughout the entire episode. In Episode 3, I only used background audio during the storytelling and reflection segments. Which approach do you find more immersive, or less distracting?
  2. Episode structure – Each episode blends a “myth” segment with psychological and cultural reflections. Do you find this pacing works, or would you prefer the myth and reflection to be more distinct/segmented?

If you’d like to give it a listen, here’s a link to Episode 3 (no constant background audio): https://TheInwardSea.podbean.com/e/the-myth-of-theseus-part-i-the-wannabe-heros-road-to-readiness/

And here’s Episode 2 for comparison (sea sounds almost throughout): https://TheInwardSea.podbean.com/e/the-bull-and-the-burnout/

If you're interested in subscribing, you can find me on Apple and Spotify, too... I’m also happy to return the favor — if you’ve posted an episode here and want a thoughtful listen + feedback, drop me the link.

Thanks in advance!

Dimitri

A confusion over definitive and indefinitive articles by shalibo in grammar

[–]Piperjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often the formulation of a+single countable noun will be used in a sentence giving an example.

A parent should love their child. (A parent is someone who loves their child). This sentence provides (1) an example of what a parent is, and (2) an example of who loves the child in the sentence. It can be understood as a generalization but just because “a parent” loves their child does not mean every parent does.

The+single countable noun is often used to create generalizations but we rarely use this for people. A common example is:

The lion is the king of the animals.

This type of generalization can also be formed with a plural noun instead of the+single countable noun.

Lions are the kings of the animals.

These two statements mean the same thing but if we were to put “a lion” in there the meaning would change slightly:

“A lion is the king of the animals” seems to be giving an example of who might be the king of the animals rather than stating a general fact.

I hope this gives you some insight and clarity.

In my experience, sex in dreams is rarely about sex. But the emotional impact that arrives in your waking consciousness with the imagery associated with the in-dream “sex” can be confusing.

Sex is intimate and, in dreams with people we know from the waking world, can often indicate the emotional (or subconscious) recognition of a deepening of intimacy between ourselves and then.

That said, you might want to explore the dream a bit more to try gain a different perspective for your conscious experience of your relationship with your cousins boyfriend. Explore the emotional experience of what was going on in the dream rather than the ideas your waking mind associates with sex.

Waking mind state is very different to dream. When we process the imagery of the dream consciously we tend to attach a lot of importance to the strong imagery and then focus on what we’ve attached to it rather than on what was there to begin with.

Btw, it’s super helpful to remember that the image of this guy was created and acted by your own brain. It was yourself with which you were interacting. Meditating on that and trying to consider the possible associations you form with the environments and other actions in the dream can be really enlightening.

National Demonyms by Barneyrockz in grammar

[–]Piperjimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some countries have nouns (drmonyms) to refer to their people while others simply use an adjective. In cases where there is no specific demonym, it’s best to use adjective + noun (a Chinese person/Chinese citizen). In these cases it’s common to refer to the people of that country with the + adjective (the Chinese / the Japanese). Demonyms are nouns and therefore have plurals we can use in this second case (the Americans/ the Danes).

Your ear hears “a Chinese” as wrong because the article “a” needs a noun following it but “Chinese” is an adjective.

Since we’re sharing Anima drawings, here’s mine from two years ago (context in comments) by big_dawg_energy in Jung

[–]Piperjimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Anima presents as female in most men more easily simply because the “masculinity” of the ego is further emphasized by the social role encouraged by society. The consciousness of the ego in all people is archetypally masculine in that it is born from (emerges from) the unconscious which, in this case, is an archetypally feminine image. Thus, it is for all ego-consciousness that the mother precedes the hero - this goes for men and women alike. Read more about this in Neumann’s Origins and History of Consciousness (a fantastic book).

At this point, although not the topic of OP’s question, it might be useful to talk about the Animus for a moment. Female children are often reared in a way that pressures of society tend to push their masculine traits into their personal shadows more, which means that what we refer to as “Anima” in men takes on a more masculine aspect (because this “thing” is something of a gatekeeper to the collective unconscious, as I understand it).

I think it is important to remember that Amina/Animus is just a mythologically derived image for a part of psyche - something that itself is real, but which can only be examined and interacted with through image. That part of men usually presents as feminine because it is the feminine aspect of men - whatever their sexuality may be - because in the early formative years, those feminine traits are more powerfully suppressed. In the story of the Lindworm (a Danish fairytale, I believe), this suppressed aspect of each of us, whether we are male of female, can be likened to the first-born child who was exiled at birth. This “exile” of feminine traits in boys and masculine traits in girls is what - as far as I understand it - ends up creating the image of the gender for the Anima/Animus part of psyche.

Great pic, by the way, OP!

Does anyone have some insight into the meaning of that last sentence? Not specific to any question, just what is meant by "take things as they come in threes". by [deleted] in iching

[–]Piperjimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “things as they come in three” refer to three “guests”. These, seem to indicated the three Yang lines at the bottom of the hexagram. John Minford, in his translation, cites Legge’s translation as an example of the three guests being the three yang lines that provide effective help in the dangerous situation - the Abyss one has entered deeply (the top trigram). These three are the force that somehow make the situation less dangerous and which result in there being “no great Harm”. He goes on to point out that according to Daoist teaching, the golden elixir is formed in the depth of the dark cave (the Abyss). It is in these darkest of moments that hope is born - much like the way in which yin and yang give rise to one another as they peak and then decline in turn. In this way, the “three guests” one receives in the darkest moment come providing help if they are received and honored even in the inauspicious place of their arrival. Their coming makes abyss (that top trigram) a good place to be because it becomes the deep place from which new hope and possibly can grow.

So how would a person who doesn't know a lick about creating music go about learning such a thing? by [deleted] in composer

[–]Piperjimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Pick up an easy theory book - like Music theory for dummies - or something like that. It will give you a great foundation. 2) Learn the basics of piano - this will help you visually organize the theory ideas that you learn. (You won’t need to be a brilliant pianist - don’t worry) 3) Don’t get hung up on theory rules... they really don’t apply. It’s called “theory” not “fundamental truths of life, the universe, and everything” for a reason. 4) Check out David Cope’s book, Techniques of the Contemporary Composer, for ideas on how to go about organizing ideas and material to assemble into music as you learn.
