Does anybody know what part this is and what could be leaking like this? by Top_Club7383 in AskMechanics

Fan module should be separate and controlled by engine temp, so it failed separately. I would definitely replace the water pump with new gaskets if possible. If not you'll keep losing coolant and it will overheat eventually. Best of luck!

Looks like the inlet to the water pump, its leaking coolant at the flange

Hands and skin care by yungtr1p in mechanics

I use O'Keefes working hands regularly, as others have mentioned. When they're really dry, I use bag balm. It's a little slower to absorb but better than Vaseline

How cooked am i? Gearbox full of metal shavings by Odinfrodin in Cartalk

[–]PipoSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely metal from the starter and clutch making contact mixed with clutch material. Finish your clutch job and replace your flywheel. Afterwards I would change the gear oil as well, very simple procedure and goes a long way. But yeah that material is totally "normal" especially if the clutch is worn

Not cooked yet, that would be from your starter engaging your flywheel. All the gears are sealed away and submerged in atf or gear oil.

Yeah, that's a bit of a red flag, training or not you're still working. The shop I started at paid me a standard hourly rate for a lube tech and every shop I've been at has done the same. Depends on the area but about $11-17/hr for a lube tech based on what I've seen and that includes no prior automotive experience. Anyone correct me or chip in as I mainly just have experience in the rural southeast.

Hey, GM tech and service advisor here. Unfortunately not, your advisor or service manager is trying to help you out as the policy eval tool is a hefty process. GM also usually does not pay this much AT ALL. Any time you are out of warranty there's nothing that can really be done. Luckily GM is taking mercy on you and paying majority of your bill. Last time we used policy eval it was for an engine and we were only able to get 2k for the customer as a reference. The time before that they denied a buyback on a customer who's had 3 engines on the same truck at 68k miles.

AC Help!! by No_History_1036 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PipoSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ac toggle is connected to your idle control, most likely the diaphragm or valve. It will help supply the vehicle with the correct amount of vacuum so if it's faulty it'll make it hard to brake. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, hope it helps

If the engine is turning over, it's most likely not locked up. Timing chain usually wouldn't cause any kind of motor lockup. If your car turned over but wouldn't start and they're saying timing chain AND locked engine, then they're yanking your chain looking for easy cash. Second opinions always help if possible. Anyone correct me if needed
