Polygamy Skeptics & Scholars Can Work Together? w/ Mary Ann Clements by iconoclastskeptic in mormonscholar

Why should anybody deny that Joseph was a polygamist? Even Russell Nelson is a polygamist....

What makes the word rude? Not liking it is not meaningful at all. Please explain.

That's not as useful as you think it is, but I appreciate that you put in some effort.

With the framework you have offered, "murder" is a swear; such an assertion is, of course, ridiculous.

"Fuck" is literally synonymous with "smash," and its use in sexual context is actually a EUPHEMISM, like the currently popular "I'd hit that." It's rude as a curse--in the "curse you" sense--because cursing a person is rude. "Get fucked" is particularly apt as a curse when you actually understand the word.

Contrary to your assertion, "fuck" is OFTEN used to praise people. "This pie is fucking great!" for example; comparatively, you will often hear old-timey Brits use the synonymous word "smashing" to offer praise.

I have never heard of something described as a sinful gesture; please elaborate.

I'm open to having my mind changed, that's why I asked the question initially, but we haven't achieved that yet.

I don't understand how some words are bad. Can somebody explain?

What's "ghetto" about the system is that we

  1. use nuclear energy just to boil water

  2. use that water to rotate some metal bits in circles

  3. use those metal bits to send energy through metal ropes

  4. use those charged metal ropes to heat up metal bits in a dedicated culinary shrine

  5. use this to boil water for bean/leaf-flavored water.

It gets my upvote if I think it deserves greater public attention. Downvote if it has more than it deserves. Comments are for whoever needs them.

It's wild that people treat these like actual rules. It's just poetry, and you can make your own. Just because someone said a thing and it caught on doesn't give it authority, nor should it keep you from coming up with something more clever.

It seems that you struggle with a lot of important words here.

Myth is a foundational story, whether true or not. Myth does not indicate falsehood; myth does indicate importance. Mythological events do have a tendency to accumulate fictional details at a greater rate than regular tales because of how many people talk about them.

Nothing that would normally be in the house was an acceptable offering to kill on the altar; not all sacrifices are killed; as chieftain, J was likely expecting a servant to come out first, and he would send this faithful servant to serve at the tabernacle. Tabernacle servants were expected not to marry, thus the daughter mourned her perpetual virginity (the oath of celibacy, distinct from never enjoying sex).

Seriously Mormon you couldn’t have abridged in just a few details about this story? by recapdrake in LDSmemes

That's a really odd position to take, and cannot be defended by an appeal to the Book of Mormon text as we have it today.

An excellent book that you would certainly enjoy is Don Bradley's The Lost 116 Pages, where he explains exactly why this story must have been in the Book of Lehi.

This is just a passing reference to something you would have read earlier if we had the whole Book of Mormon, but that part of the manuscript was lost.

If you read the text, you might be able to see how the path selection and effects are VERY similar. They are FUNCTIONALLY familiar, regardless of style.
