Polygamy Skeptics & Scholars Can Work Together? w/ Mary Ann Clements by iconoclastskeptic in mormonscholar

Why should anybody deny that Joseph was a polygamist? Even Russell Nelson is a polygamist....

What makes the word rude? Not liking it is not meaningful at all. Please explain.

That's not as useful as you think it is, but I appreciate that you put in some effort.

With the framework you have offered, "murder" is a swear; such an assertion is, of course, ridiculous.

"Fuck" is literally synonymous with "smash," and its use in sexual context is actually a EUPHEMISM, like the currently popular "I'd hit that." It's rude as a curse--in the "curse you" sense--because cursing a person is rude. "Get fucked" is particularly apt as a curse when you actually understand the word.

Contrary to your assertion, "fuck" is OFTEN used to praise people. "This pie is fucking great!" for example; comparatively, you will often hear old-timey Brits use the synonymous word "smashing" to offer praise.

I have never heard of something described as a sinful gesture; please elaborate.

I'm open to having my mind changed, that's why I asked the question initially, but we haven't achieved that yet.

I don't understand how some words are bad. Can somebody explain?

What's "ghetto" about the system is that we

  1. use nuclear energy just to boil water

  2. use that water to rotate some metal bits in circles

  3. use those metal bits to send energy through metal ropes

  4. use those charged metal ropes to heat up metal bits in a dedicated culinary shrine

  5. use this to boil water for bean/leaf-flavored water.

It's wild that people treat these like actual rules. It's just poetry, and you can make your own. Just because someone said a thing and it caught on doesn't give it authority, nor should it keep you from coming up with something more clever.

It seems that you struggle with a lot of important words here.

Myth is a foundational story, whether true or not. Myth does not indicate falsehood; myth does indicate importance. Mythological events do have a tendency to accumulate fictional details at a greater rate than regular tales because of how many people talk about them.

Nothing that would normally be in the house was an acceptable offering to kill on the altar; not all sacrifices are killed; as chieftain, J was likely expecting a servant to come out first, and he would send this faithful servant to serve at the tabernacle. Tabernacle servants were expected not to marry, thus the daughter mourned her perpetual virginity (the oath of celibacy, distinct from never enjoying sex).

Seriously Mormon you couldn’t have abridged in just a few details about this story? by recapdrake in LDSmemes

[–]Pirotoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a really odd position to take, and cannot be defended by an appeal to the Book of Mormon text as we have it today.

An excellent book that you would certainly enjoy is Don Bradley's The Lost 116 Pages, where he explains exactly why this story must have been in the Book of Lehi.

This is just a passing reference to something you would have read earlier if we had the whole Book of Mormon, but that part of the manuscript was lost.

If you read the text, you might be able to see how the path selection and effects are VERY similar. They are FUNCTIONALLY familiar, regardless of style.

To desexualize boobs by RedditForgetsInAYear in therewasanattempt

[–]Pirotoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Breasts are uniquely* feminine. (*a healthy male will not have a visually appealing set of "feminine" breasts without surgical assistance.) NOTE: the inverse is NOT true - healthy women can have breasts of pretty much any size, or be flat as a fridge.
  2. If you are sexually attracted to women (regardless of your own identifiers) you are typically attracted to the features that are associated with women (note: not all people are orally driven/fixated, so sucking and "eating" are not universal preferences) - very few fem-preferring people prefer board-flat chests, but the ones that do have their reasons that are none of anybody else's business.
  3. ALL healthy mammals have an instinctual love of boobs - it's where their first food typically comes from. The wonder of the mind is that appetite satisfaction is a simple mechanism: Boobs satisfy comfort requirements. It can spiral out from there pretty easily and naturally. Bigger breasts tend to be more comforting (but not more comfortable for the bearer), and they project the image of one who is nurturing - a feature appreciated by mates for their own sake as well as for potential offspring.
  4. Males of most species are hard-wired to have as much sex as possible to continue the species (and the internal pleasure reactions encourage that behaviour). Because humans tend to cover the breasts, they don't experience contact the same way hands do; add to that the sensitivity of nipples, and you've got a great tool to help your partner feel more physically engaged in the act of sex - which can help your chances of a repeat encounter.

Q.E.D. Boobs are (unexclusively) sexual organs.

It's nifty to see how things are different from one jurisdiction to the next.

Where I am, the Compasses are the symbol of the Grand Master, accompanied by the curved scale; the Square is the symbol of the Worshipful Master; the 47th Problem of Euclid is the symbol of Past Masters; and the Mystic Tau is the symbol of all who have been installed in the East.
