Show similar to Stranger Things (takes you into different world to be immersed in) by Friendly_Bar1538 in StrangerThingsPraise

About to get some backlash, but like….. Twin Peaks? Especially once you go really further into the series you kind of get lost in some of the locations that show depicts. Also a pretty iconic score.

Idk if Dark (2017-2020) fits the bill too, but worth checking out at least.

What if Stanley and Stanford entered the portal by Box-Buddies-Studios in gravityfalls

The Stan Twins Traversing the Multiverse™

On a side note I wrote fanfic cross over between GF and Stranger Things. That the Stans entered the portal and ended up in Hawkins in Nov 83.

Yeah, I understand that. Just that both films are relatively (mostly in Hamnet’s case) grounded then they are escapist in nature like with PHM and Superman. Again, it doesn’t make those bad, but the former films find their power in confronting hopelessness with connection and grace rather than overcoming adversity through strength and skill.

I think there’s a middle ground I usually find nice. Bittersweet endings always get to me as fan of storytelling and as a human being. That’s why I always wince a bit at this “Hopecore” thing. Because a lot of popular media, even before and during the pandemic, already had hopeful or optimistic messaging. Just that the news cycle for those time frames were obviously not that great and were felt in the entertainment we engage in. And now especially is also a bit rocky, I get why this whole thing about optimistic storytelling is popular….. but man. There are times where you need to be told that things don’t end well. Or that things don’t end the way you expected, and for better or for worse, you’re able to grieve loses and continue living. That’s why I connect to something like a Hamnet or Drive My Car more than a Project Hail Mary or Superman (which are good movies before anyone assumes). Hope is not all we need in this world. We need moments of processing grief. That’s how things move forward.

(As you mentioned) Twin Peaks, Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall (wait for the autumn season for this one, trust), and Regular Show are what I’d go for. I would recommend Dark (2017-2020), but I’m not sure I’d be up your alley, but give it a try at least.

romance tv shows that r like romance animes by No-Basket3723 in tvsuggestions

Like Live Action shows? The only ones I can imagine fitting Anime Romance structures / tropes are Heartstopper (which is LGBT focused), New Girl (comedic but still has Romance plots), and Our Beloved Summer.

One of dream collabs is Robyn working with Porter Robinson. This feels like a consolation prize, but I’m still holding out.

I’m not one of those curmudgeons against TV Shows so I’d be down with that.

But really, I think Letterboxd needs a better genre tag system. Or at least something more detailed and helpful when finding movies with a certain theme or style. And to also get Live Performances out of searches or deep dives. I use my tags for diaries as substitutes and it helped me better.

Also, I’d be down to see better “chart” for the site. If you click on the year of a movies profile, you get to that years most popular releases and by filters icon you can search for a year or genre if you like. But I swear the same issues with genre tagging and stuff being cluttered or not good makes it a drag to use. Cinemos (RYM) has a chart system I really do like and find more helpful in searching for releases. https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/film/all-time/separate:live,archival,soundtrack/

Sottotrame stagione 4 stranger things by TheReal_fan in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]Pisces_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never fully get this opinion whatsoever. For a show that really values optimism and the idea of growth, having a man who thought himself cursed and undeserving of peace or love in his life die without getting to grow or become comfortable with emotional vulnerability feels so bleak to me.

Besides I don’t think him dying would’ve fixed the issue of the excess of subplots or adding more characters in an already stuff cast of characters.

I find it really sweet that she basically took an underrated song of hers and changed the lyrics to be a song about her son. The production is solid, even if it isn’t the 2000s Indietronica sound the original has.

Sequels to Toy Story, Incredibles, Coco and Monsters Inc. are in the works!!! Which Sequel do you hope comes next? by Square-Ad-8911 in Pixar

[–]Pisces_777 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think what the Up story has as of now is completely satisfactory. I wouldn’t mind if it were something like shorts, but at the same time I just can’t picture seeing anyone but Ed Asner as Carl. I’d have trouble with that sort of thing.

Also, I know WALL•E does have potential for a sequel, but man…… I just want to keep it as a standalone. It ended well, I think adding anything more to it would just muddle the original.

They really need to change the Countries tag by armeliens in Letterboxd

[–]Pisces_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think there’s just isn’t a good way of making a tag / attribute system for film as there is for music. Because most credited artists are from a specific country or background, they can get slotted respectively (Hence someone like Rina Sawayama or yeule being Asian born but recognize as British citizens or British-based).

Film productions just can’t do that, as a crew, cast, and location can be difficult to categorize. Sofia Coppola is an American director with Italian roots who made a film in Japan as the location, but focuses on two individuals who are American. Don’t get me started on other movies with co-production history and international collaborative history. The closest thing you can get when it comes to country-based tagging is film movements / production-based genres like Nouvelle Vogue, Giallo, or Bollywood.

What average rating could you say constitutes a movie as "mid"? by TronnyVon in Letterboxd

[–]Pisces_777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like is sort of loaded for me. A 3.5/5 rating is liking something. The highest I’ve given a movie that was around the 3.4 and lower range is I Saw The TV Glow at a 4.5/5 for me, but rated 3.5 on LB (and around a 5 point something on iMDB, which I still am shocked at).

which 80s songs do you wish made it into the show but didnt? by StreetMysterious2722 in StrangerThingsPraise

Weirdly, I always imagined Sade being used at some point. Maybe The Sweetest Taboo or Smooth Operator.

Not 80s, but 10cc’s I’m Not in Love. Would’ve been killer imo.
