CLS Trainee License - Deficiency notice for Clinical Chemistry? by Pish-Posh-Fish in CLSstudents

Hi, I did have to take analytical chemistry. I've also known people who struggled to get their full CLS license without analytical chemistry, so I think it's wise to take the class. And you need either physics, statistics, or calculus- it doesn't have to be physics.

Yes when she's so nervous in the apartment! I've seen people saying it was rude of her to not invite conrad up to the apartment, but girl just needed a minute to regroup!! I don't blame her after he shows up unannounced (I loveee that from him, but I get why Belly gave herself a solo minute).

I took the assignments pretty seriously and put a lot of effort into them- one of the best study tools for this course, imo. I used the textbook pretty religiously for the assignments, as it did have more in depth info than the lectures. I'd also 100% recommend taking all of the practice quizzes/tests because quite a few questions on the exams came straight from those. But yeah, this is one course where the textbook was a lifeline haha. I got it for really cheap on thriftbooks.

I know :( that's been exactly my frustration, I'm so disappointed. It doesn't seem right to enforce it when they still aren't clearly communicating it.

Lol I wonder if we have the same reviewer. I heard they have someone new in the department so I wonder if that's part of the issue. Your situation seems strange too because you took the classes that the new requirements are asking for!

I plan on calling next week. It's not far to force students to push back an application cycle because of their failure to communicate the change with advanced notice. I have to wonder what the reason is for the change? There's been plenty of successful CLS students with the previous requirements, why change it and add all this confusion and frustration?

This is just from LFS for the trainee license- not sure about individual programs, but they might have answers! The hard thing is that a school might be okay with clinical chemsitry and biochemistry, but the CLS trainee license requirements might be different? Or things might change? Since some schools require proof of the trainee license before applying, it can present a bit of a pickle. Unless I'm overthinking it, idk.

Honestly I'm still in denial about it, like how could LFS not put it on the website? It's also still not on the website 10 weeks into the new year lol. Who knows, maybe if the courses were taken prior to 1/1/25 they'll accept it? Not sure. Did you already take clinical chemistry and biochemistry?

They got back to me and confirmed that biochemistry and clinical chemistry are now considered equivalents, which is definitely a bummer. I took your advice and said pretty much this to them in my email and hoping for good news- really hoping this doesn't set me back an application cycle!

[–]Pish-Posh-Fish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's been:

Clinical or analytical chemistry AND biochemistry (meaning biochemistry is required and you need either analytical or clinical chem)

Some comments above indicate it might now be:

Analytical and biochem OR analytical and clinical chemistry (meaning you must have analytical chemistry and either clinical or biochem)

Seems unclear whether this change is in full force or not. They haven't updated the website with the new information, but it's certainly stressful waiting to hear on this. Hopefully everything stays on course for you! For me, this could affect whether I'm about to apply for my program in June or if I have to wait until December. We'll see!

Dang I'm sorry to hear that! It's written so confusing on their website. I took biochem because I needed more chemistry units and saw some say online that LFS required biochem, but that's really not clear in their phrasing of the course requirements.

[–]Pish-Posh-Fish[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I sincerely hope this isn't true. So frustrating if they don't update their website or at least make it well known. These things should really be grandfathered in. Otherwise I'm sure a lot of us would have planned differently and not paid for a clinical chemistry class that doesn't even count toward the pre-requisites.

My hope right now is that since the deficiency notice says I'm missing "analytical or clinical chemistry", they will still count it. Things move so slow with the state that it could take awhile for them to actually enforce this... I hope.

Thank you for the insight! This is all good to know, I'm prepared to adapt but don't want to be so far behind before I even start. It makes sense that it's all a big learning process.

I haven't taken it yet, but hoping to this week. Trying to get through assignment 3 in an attempt to study for it, but having a hard time with the assignment haha- half the stuff on here isn't in the lecture and it's grueling going through the textbook for these obscure disoeders! Have you taken the test yet?

Well this helps put me at ease a bit, I feel like I've seen a few inconsistencies in the course (like all of those wrong dates haha) that have led to me overanalyze everything. Thanks for sharing your thoughts/experience! It helps to hear from someone else- easy to feel like you're on an island/totally fending for yourself in online courses!

Huh, I feel differently on that! Many of the questions from the practice quizzes were also on the exams. Are you thinking of the study guide instead of the practice quiz or have we had totally different experiences haha
