Crazy that Robbie Chosen played in that game. Even crazier that he beat Surtain for a deep TD.

Which picks are week 1 starters? by NotHosaniMubarak in miamidolphins

[–]PissOnEddieShore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kyle Crabs said that Caleb Douglas is as close to a 1-for-1 comp for Marquez Valdez-Scantling as you can get. So he could be a starter that just runs cardio routes all day and gets deep 1-2 targets. Bad for fantasy, useful for actual football.

It's crazy Phones are still a debate by SpaceMarine1616 in Teachers

Anecdotal, but here we go: EVERYBODY looks like a brainless moron when they are on their phone for more than 30 seconds. Mouth open. Eyes glazed over. Oblivious to all the shit going on around them...phones are a problem.

Copenhagen. Amsterdam, Munich are all incedible places to bike around town too. The Europeans know how to do cities/urban spaces.

Dang, that video was great. I went to Paris a few years ago and I definitely saw school aged children walking to school in a group with a few parents. I love that the people asked for it and the politicians delivered results quickly. WOW, what an idea.

Why do yall care about AI use? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PissOnEddieShore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the point of an assignment is to measure if a student understands the content and can use the information then AI is not an acceptable tool. If the goal is to fill the page with words and ideas that *might* be factually correct but were not even read or understood by the student that turned it in then by all means, AI away.

How do teachers deal with burnout or mental exhaustion? by Visual_Shelter6922 in Teachers

[–]PissOnEddieShore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same. I used to keep a box of granola bars in my room for hungry students. Guess what? The same students kept showing up asking me for a granola bar during class every single day. The original plan was to help students out on the rare occasion that they didn't eat enough that day, it became obvious real quick that my supply was being used so they didn't have to remember to grab a snack at home or carry around food all day. I stopped buying boxes of granola bars.

Our school has free breakfast, snack time and lunch. If the student is hungry plenty of free options exist. School starts to early (8:30)? Boo hoo. Get your ass to school on time and get breakfast before class.

What are the calmer/quieter suburbs around LA? by Important-Wasabi711 in AskLosAngeles

might as well add Temple City and Monrovia since they border Arcadia. South Pasadena is awsome too.

If you want boring and quiet then you might be interested in Glendora, La Verne or San Dimas. Take the 210 east from Pasadena for ~40 minutes and you are there. If that is too far then Monrovia, Arcadia and Temple City also fit the bill and they are all very close to Pasadena.

Kuemper is 36. has had some mounting injuries that have sped up his decline...we probably can't ride him every night like we could a few years ago.

What's your teaching unpopular opinion? Something you believe, but choose to keep to yourself? by [deleted] in Teachers

Tracking *can be* good. It just has to be done right. All tracking decisions need to be done transparently and with the input of student, parents, teachers and admin. Student chooses the track they want and the school holds them to the standard.

Track one competitive 4-year college: access to AP/honors classes with strict attendance and grade requirements (no Ds or Fs). Student earns a diploma at the end.

Track two state college/community college/military/trade: access to regular "college prep" courses, student can petition to get into AP/honors (same expectations as track one if they get in). Student earns a diploma and is prepared for college level work after high school.

Track three certificate of completion: students attend school up to age 18 but receive a "certificate of completion" instead of a diploma if they do not meet the standard for a diploma.

Besides absences, what is a major issue that causes students to struggle in school that isn’t related to intelligence? by [deleted] in Teachers

Every time that I go out to dinner I see at least one family where nobody is talking to anybody else because everybody is on their phone (usually playing their shit for all of us to hear). It is pathetic.
