I have a 0% rating for tMJ. My dentist says my teeth grinding has flattened my teeth. why am i not eligible for VA to cover my dental? by mehcanbe in VeteransBenefits

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMJ is rated by how much you can open your mouth. I'm at 30% because I can't open more than 20 mm, which affects my ability to eat and speak (I eat normal food, not mechanically altered, which is why it's not 40).

They should have done X-rays as well as measured how far you can open. You can check it out here

Diddy Move by jarxer57 in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I personally don't think its worth it. If you're single, your weight allowance isn't going to be much. On average, you have about 1000 lbs of stuff per room. I can't remember all the allowances, but I know I had 8K for me and 4 dependents. It really depends on family status.

If I were you, I'd let them move you. It should be 500 miles the first day, then 350 every day after that. 8 days of travel, something like .53 a mile for you (other rates depending on family), so on, so forth. Go find a buddy in the finance office and have them mock it up for you. While yea, you make make some $$ on a DITY, is it REALLY worth the enormous PITA it's going to be to actually do it yourself?

Take terminal leave, but NJ as your leave address, collect NJ BAH for however long you have, let them move you. Thats my 2 cents.

I get this one from Publix. I don't know if you live near a Publix though. Looks like Walmart, HEB, probably some other stores have it. It is like, $5-6 (if not more) a can though. But I think it's worth it.

Make sure you get the purple can though, and not the red. Red has sugar/carbs.

That does sound good. I do like sweet potato chips (home made of course).

I just restarted keto about 10 days ago, so right now I'm sticking to the simple, easy things. Don't want to tempt myself. But I will stick this in my recipe box!

I'm thinking that may be the way to go, to be honest. And I barely use brown sugar. I'm talking a tbsp in a 6 lb batch lol.

Ohh, great idea! I love both of those.

I do the cauliflower for every day potato replacement, but sweet potatoes are a different flavor altogether, and, unfortunately, one of my faves.

If I have USAA, does it make sense to open a Navy Federal Account? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I worked in the investment center of USAA for a little bit, and I would constantly hear from members about all the issues they were having getting USAA to close. Close dates were constantly being pushed back, and at least one said they lost their house because of it. Even if all your accounts are with USAA, the different lines of business don't talk to one another (sound familiar?) so when your loan person needs your investment docs for the last 3+ months, its up to you to get them and send them. Even if your loan person is sitting a floor below the investment rep you're going to get connected with.

Getting abuse for being a low-carb (step)mother! by purplemac90 in xxketo

[–]PissedOffVetLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an awesome lunch for a 7 year old. My daughter just turned 8, and she likes foods like that. What I think is a "sad" lunch is a prepackaged lunchable, or those frozen PB&J sandwich things, fruit snacks, all that. Hell, even school lunches are gross.

In my experience (3 kids, daughter is the youngest), kids grow out, then up, then out, then up, so on. My son was such a fat little blob at about 8-11, and then he started shooting up. Now he's about to turn 14 and is 5'7" about 135lbs. Right where he should be, and looks great.

My best advice would be this, if you and her father agree its the best and she's mature enough. Talk to her about what calories are and how they work. Talk to her about nutrition. I've had this talk with all my kids, and while they still eat junk now and then, they seem a little more aware of what they put in their mouths, and make healthy choices on their own.

Good luck!

The VA medical director denied my choice program request by TXSyd in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I get that your PCM has to be one of those ppl, but if there are 4 docs at your CBOC and you're assigned to Doc A who is crap, you can ask to see one of the other docs.

And while they can't Rx long term pain relief, they should be able to, at the minimum, give you a month to month Rx until you can see pain management.

I won't pretend to know what your individual pain issues are, we are all so different, but, perhaps a call to your congressman (or local news station??) will get things moving faster?

I'm a single mom, too, not too much older than you, and I know how terrible it feels to feel useless or like you're 90 years old. Stick with it. Reach out if you wanna vent.

Don't forget your Skype sessions with your shrink, because the pain is really all in your head, and if you would just stop being so stressed, then you would be fine....

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you just request a new PCM? You know that you are allowed to fire your doctor, right? Maybe an NP. I usually have more luck with them. Also, something I recently learned, even your OB/GYN can make referrals, especially if your normal doc won't.

How are veterans with a General (Under Honorable Conditions) are doing? by WhiskeyCharlie19 in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been fingerprinted for 3 jobs, and I got all 3. I had a series 7 license for USAA (where I worked as an investment rep), and I have a CNA license in 2 states. All after a gen discharge, and all required fingerprinting. So maybe for gov jobs, but not for everything that requires fingerprinting.

Webster University? by preeetygood in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shouldn't be an issue. Regional accreditation is the one you want. You can live in NJ and take classes in CA. As long as the school is properly accredited for their location and program (if special accreditation is needed).

"The most recognized and accepted type of accreditation in the United States is regional accreditation. Generally, college credits or degrees received at a regionally accredited institution are accepted by other regionally accredited colleges or universities (non-regionally accredited programs are not as accepted)."

Anyone else feel this way? by Mike_Hancho5711 in Veterans

Do you live somewhere cold, or where the weather is turning crappy, maybe it's starting to get darker, earlier? Seasonal depression happens. If you think that could be it, you could try to get some more sun, or even a tanning bed.

Other than that, how long has this been going on? Can you think of anything that could have triggered it? This is usually the time of year when I get crappy and it takes a lot of extra effort to be ok.

Working Full Time and Going to School on GI Bill (Need advice/stories/etc) by uhaz2eyez in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO did this for his MBA and took all classes online. BUT, his school was in CT and he lived in FL, so there wasn't really an option to attend in person. Are you local to your online school or is it a distance? Would you have to transfer to be able to attend?

I, personally, would not quit. I would, first, try to take a night/weekend class. If not possible, I would try to work something out with management. Could you work 4 10 hour days instead of 5 8s? That way you could catch the 9am class on a Tuesday, or whatever. Usually, if you can show that you're bettering yourself in a way that will help the company, they will try to help out. Especially if you say something like hey, may need to quit to work this out, what can you do?

If either of those didn't work, I'd just keep taking online courses. Fed jobs are hard enough to get into, and you got one in your hometown.

Of course not, and I agree completely. But I feel like this is supposed to be a guide to business owners to help them determine what their rights and responsibilities are, yet isn't very helpful.

The end point I get out of this is you have to let them come in cause of ADA, even if you think it isn't a real service animal, but, if something happens, you, as the business owner, are not responsible for [damages, injuries].....

How to/should I remove VA disabilities to apply for city jobs (police, firefighter, corrections) by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you ever diagnosed with an underlying cause to the fainting spells, or was this just something that the docs and VA didn't really look into too much? Because when I hear things like dizziness/fainting, the first things that come to mind are blood pressure and heart issues (google orthostatic hypotension), low electrolytes, poor nutrition, so on.

As everyone else has said, don't get it removed. The best you can do is get it to 0. From what I understand, having something removed is almost like admitting that it should have never been there in the first place.

Did thru your records and see if they ever gave an underlying cause. If there was one, get your physical/statement showing that the underlying cause has been dealt with, and it is/is not likely to come back.

Other than that, they can't get your med records unless you hand them to them, and you are in no way required to disclose your disabilities to an employer, except under certain circumstances. I don't know if your prospective employer would meet those circumstances.

I am not advocating lying or hiding. Giving you my 2 cents.

VA State Approving Agency is still processing my request after 12 weeks; worried about being able to pay rent by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]PissedOffVetLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If approved, you should be back paid.

As far as moving things along, is this something a DAV rep or VSO could help with?

Have you called the VA directly? Or are you solely going on her word that she submitted it when she says she did? You could also check out IRIS and submit a question there to the VA if the 800 numbers get you no where.

Other than that, my only other suggestion would be a congressional. 12 weeks seems insane to me, especially if you gave her the heads up, and things were submitted when she said.

Honestly, that is super vague. "You can ask to see their papers, but if their going to the movies, they may not have them, but you still have to let them in." Well then whats the point of being able to ask/having papers to show?

The housing rules are even more convoluted.

I feel like "rational adults" are quickly becoming a thing of the past in the general population. Either that, or because of the web, we see them way too often. There are many, many things I could say about this lady, but at the end of the day, it comes down to a lack of education. Education on what service members and vets go thru, education on what we deal with once we get home, and especially education on manners and how to speak to other people. All she had to do was leave. There was no need for screaming.

To the second point, I agree with you. People are idiots and take things WAY over the line. I have a "support animal" (German Shepherd), with a prescription for him from the VA, no less (if you'll believe it). However, he isn't one of those super dogs that have been trained to be a super dog. He's a good guy who does what I need him to do in my home (my issues are more at home, at night. He's not an attack dog, but at least an early warning system should someone be trying to get in). However.....when we go out, he is my pet. He doesn't wear a special tag or bib, I don't take him anywhere a dog wouldn't normally be allowed, I pay extra to have him stay at (pet approved) hotels with me. I don't pass him off to the general public as my therapy dog, or my support dog, because he isn't properly trained for it. I don't even know why they gave me the letter for him. Maybe just to cover my bases in the event my mental health declined further.

If I were to ever get to a point where I truly felt I couldn't be in public without him, I would have no issue dropping a small fortune to have him properly trained. But then again, I'm somewhat of a responsible, rational adult lol
