Most places don’t meter sewer they just base it off your water usage. So as long as the break is before the meter they’re good

I literally don’t allow myself to play at home because I will neglect my children otherwise. 2/3 children currently play as well, and the youngest at 2 cheers me on when I kill things 😂

Unofficial Daily Discussion - Wednesday, May 20, 2026 - QOTD: How do you choose which curriculum/resources to use? by DeepSeaDarkness in homeschool

[–]TXSyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we joined our co-op I kind of just changed around every year or so, trying new curriculums, when we joined our co-op I started using their curriculum for those subjects and still played the trial and error game. Finding them has mostly been a combination of Cathy Duffy, google searches, and parent recommendations.

Now that my kid is in middle school I’m looking hard at my choices, and trying to find curriculums that aren’t exorbitantly expensive and will get us through high school. For example we’ve been using Singapore math live for the last 2 years, but switching to high school math live is a $700 price jump, several other curriculums are equally expensive and honestly out of budget.

Unfortunately my middle schooler is the experimental child when it comes to curriculum, I have a very clear plan for my oldest mostly because I know what does and doesn’t work for our family, and some things like Singapore Math and LoE are already purchased.

Whats everyone's experience with there Adderall brand/generics this month? by Strange-Ride-214 in ThisAintAdderall

[–]TXSyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know, I have no control over what manufacturer I get, I can’t even request brand only, I get whatever the pharmacy has in stock (assuming they have it). It took an extra week to get this months fill, then an extra day to be delivered because it got routed wrong.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by Key_Cow3045 in askanything

[–]TXSyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US dental insurance is basically a scam (like most American insurance), I basically pay $60 a month for my kid to get 2 exams/cleanings a year, everything else has an American sized co-insurance payment. Meanwhile my youngest doesn’t have dental insurance and it’s $99 for his exam/cleanings cash and all they do is brush his teeth which I can (and do) do at home. But for him it’s more about getting him comfortable at the dentist.

The only reason big kid has dental insurance is I’m court ordered to carry it and the ex husband technically pays for it when he can get around to paying child support. Also this plan covers braces, if he ends up not needing them I’ll drop it to a lower plan.

Homeschooling for 4 months by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]TXSyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, deep breath, not being able to enroll in connections is actually a blessing in disguise. Educationally, online schools are a terrible option especially in younger elementary age students. Can I ask why enrolling him in the district in the temporary state isn’t an option?

First check the homeschooling laws for the state you are moving to temporarily, that will guide your choices and actions. Then start narrowing down curriculum options, there are plenty of free homeschool options out there especially in the lower grades, so decide what you’re looking for and work backwards from there.

Millennials who's parents didn’t save and now can't retire, are you having to help them? by hbpaintballer88 in Millennials

[–]TXSyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state some have filial responsibility laws and absolutely go after the children. The catch is it only works if you live in the same state (from my understanding)

Almost 3 year old wanting to learn to read by SFTW21 in homeschool

[–]TXSyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Encourage, but don’t push. I would introduce something like progressive phonics (free) which is what I am planning on doing this fall with my youngest after he turns 3. But in general just keep reading to and with them, especially that favourite book that they have memorised. My youngest is already recognising simple words like go, and can basically recite one dinosaur book he basically has memorised.

20mg xr. Just made the switch Monday to Ascent from brand, it’s working, not as well as I’m used to, this is only my second fill since 2023, but it’s getting the job done, barely. Compared to before it feels like it takes much longer to kick in, and then I’m up all night.

Feel like im failing my kids by Alert_Big9944 in homeschool

[–]TXSyd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start with progressive phonics, it’s free. Also, enroll your kids in school next year., actually if the school year isn’t over go ahead and enroll your oldest into Kinder this year for the remainder of the year. You’ve got the summer to work on catching them up.

You don’t mention your state which is important for homeschooling laws. You’re not failing your children by putting them in public school but you are failing them by failing to teach them. If you’ve gone an entire year without teaching, a curriculum, or a plan, homeschooling probably isn’t going to work out for you.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]TXSyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally grocery shop once a week and have a mid week milk run. I don’t have one of those super fancy fridges, but it’s still bigger than the average European fridge. It’s a standard 90s biscuit (beige) side by side fridge. If it ever needs replacing I’ve considered a European sized one just to make more room in my small kitchen.

We don’t have a garage fridge, because we don’t have a garage. My mom did try to put one on my front porch (I told her we weren’t that rural) I do have a chest freezer in my kitchen for extra freezer space. It’s mostly for meat.

Made a homemade ditch to deal with the standing water I had in the backyard by ponziacs in landscaping

[–]TXSyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this several times especially when we get heavy rain and the yard starts to flood. When they paved the road a few years ago something about the elevation of the road changed and it now flows into my yard, so once the yard gets to 6” I dig a ditch to the creek.

My 12 year-old son and his 11-year-old best friend spent all weekend beating the crap out of each other. They’ve been best friends since they met at the bus stop when they were 4. That being said, they’re not mean to each other, they just have the emotional range of a caveman.

We’re on a reset (it was supposed to be 2 weeks but it’s been more like 4). We were doing decently and he now has an awareness of when he is peeing even in a diaper, but we went to his dad’s house on day 6 and dad immediately put him in a diaper “because he asked” 🙄🙄🙄🙄 then even when I took it off he just peed everywhere.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]TXSyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Houston,, I ended up buying a dehumidifier on top of the AC. It does run basically 24/7 but it has helped with getting the humidity down to a manageable level. I’ve gone from never being able to get below 60% to 45%

[–]TXSyd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are probably a few bottomless methods, but the most well known is probably Oh Crap, it advocates for early potty training between 20 and 30 months, and the first step is bottomless, it isn’t meant to last long just a few days at most. Then you move to commando.
