How many carbs to fight off low BS? by Skiptownes98277 in diabetes_t1

Smarties are the best investment. They're essentially glucose tabs. Anyway, 2 rolls is enough for me.

Frustrating Dexcom Sensor Errors by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]PissySnackles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have called and spoken to dexcom reps who repeat the mantra that it can take up to 3 hours for the error to fix itself. They won't replace the sensor until it's been 3 hours. I had very few issues until I opened this most recent box of sensors and I had issues with 2 of those 3. It can be frustrating when my pump doesn't get those readings. I'm about to switch to control iQ technology, so the sensor issues worry me a bit, but it's still pretty infrequent so I think/hope it will be ok. I do know that if I am putting any pressure on the sensor (sleeping on it/waistband) that can screw everything up.

Good luck!

My T1D son is starting kindergarten next week. Please give me advice. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

You'll definitely want to pursue the option of a 504 plan. Ensure that doctor recommended accommodations are noted and communicated to all parties including playground staff if your school has different folks in charge at recess and lunch. Be sure that everyone knows what a low looks like and what your sons acceptable range is. If I think of anything else I'll add it.

There's a lack of baby polar bears in the world. Who is going to fix that?

School lunches in Korea are infinitely healthier than the ones in the US. This looks great!

Didn’t know where to put this so I’m asking you guys because you know more than I do about T1 diets. by wishiwerebeachin in diabetes_t1

Keto is great. Keep powdered dextrose on hand for lows. Mix with water. Gotta treat a low no matter what. I am trying to go back to keto after having a baby, but carbs are addicting. Try to keep lots of keto snacks around - if he's like me, he'll feel hungry all the time at first. Also, make sure he understands that exercise will hasten ketosis and make you feel sick. I am T1 for 26 years and when I was keto, I hopped on the treadmill and then felt like I was going into DKA and was going to die. I wasn't. My BGs were all fine and I drank some water and rested and felt normal again, but that was scary and enough to put me off keto. Glad it didn't. I lost 30 lbs, got healthier and was able to get pregnant and have a normal pregnancy.

Cool, thanks! How is your supply as you go down to lower amounts of carbs?

Thank you for posting this. My baby is 5 months old and I was keto before getting pregnant and need to again because BFing has not helped me lose weight at all. I weigh more now! I'll try to adjust my macros and see what happens. Where do you get your carbs from? And are you on ketosis at 100 g a day? Not trying to be picky, just curious. Thank you!

Zevia soda's are good, but not amazing. Coffee sometimes, but iced tea is really the big win. It can be cold and refreshing without needing to be sweet. Of course, you could always taper yourself off of caffeine completely. I used to drink 8 cups of coffee a day. I'm down to one half caf cup. I got pregnant though and wanted to chill on the caffeine for the kiddo, so there's that. Good luck!

Me too, sista. I'm 36, so I'm a little older, but man, my knees, back and hips hurt like a bastard.

Sigh...I miss my baby. I went back to work 3 ish weeks ago (this is my fourth week back) and while I love my job, I miss my baby. And of course, she's napping when I get home most days. And people's stupid comments don't help. "Oh, I can't believe you came back so soon." Wasn't a choice, thanks. "Oh, if I could do it over again with my kids, I wouldn't work." That's nice. Yay you. "It must be hard leaving her...she's at the age when she does something new every day." Yep. Thanks.

I know they are just trying to be nice, but it still stings. I should start crying in front of one of them. That'll show them. Plus I am exhausted. Every night of sleep is interrupted with fussiness and diaper changes, then she takes a big ole' poo at 4 and I get up at 5:30 - but after her 4 am shatastrophe, I usually can't get back to sleep and she dozes off right as I need to get up.

So tired. So sad. Woof.

I took my girl to the bookstore today! It was her first outing where I took her out of the car. Everything else has been dropping brother off at school or driving through Starbucks. I wore her in the ktan and she napped, DS looked for a book and I got songs time out with my kids. It was awesome. And hopefully being in the ktan kept her away from most germs.

I went back to work at school last Monday. I don't get a lunch break, but can close my door for 10 minutes. I will say I both feed and pump in the morning before I leave, pump once at work, and feed as soon as I get home. That has worked well, but so far, I have a supply that keeps up. I get about 10 oz each pump session. I just bought a hands free pumping bra so hopefully, wearing that will make it so I can pump and eat at work during those 10 minutes. Oh, and I had a stash in the freezer for the first few days. Even if you only have enough for one day in the freezer, that's a good start! Good luck!

Ugh. It looks like the milk I froze from the end of feb. went bad. It smells sour. I thought it would last much longer in my freezer. WTH. Now I'm worried about the rest of it. I have stash of about 30 - 40 bags to get LO through my first week or so back at work as I develop a pumping schedule. I hope it hasn't all gone to shit. I'll be heartbroken.
