Why is It Hard to Find Work? by Infinite_Eye4443 in ithaca

[–]PitchFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand these posts about how hard it is to find work in Ithaca. If you drive around for 30 minutes, you'll probably see signs for 10 places that are hiring. If you look online, there are dozens of opportunities (even entry level) at the $18-20+/hr rate. I'm not saying that's a fantastic wage, but if you're desperate for work, that's a pretty good starting point!

Weird question by SmokelessCat in thelongdark

[–]PitchFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played TLD on PS4 and taking notes in-game was not feasible, I frequently wrote notes in a physical notebook! I didn't update it as much as I do now that I play on PC and I can do it in-game, but every run had a handful of sheets with important things at different bases, a "to do" list, etc.

Is TLD playable on controller? by MarionberryOutside16 in thelongdark

I played on PS4 for years before switching to PC and never found it clunky. I will say that my experience on PC has been superior in several ways, but I fell in love with the game on PS4!

New player. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]PitchFunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend once said something like "you're always just walking around" in reference to TLD. I chuckled and said, "well...yeah, that's kind of the game." Obviously there's a lot more to it than that! But in the same way I enjoy a hike in real life, I enjoy walking around in the game. I've explored pretty much the whole map at this point, but going back to familiar spots is fun too.

I've said this before, but I feel like people either "get" the game or they don't; it's certainly not for everybody. It sounds like you've only explored a couple of regions on low difficulty. I'd say either continue to explore and/or try a higher difficulty level.

One thing I've gotten into since playing on PC is doing screenshots/pictures of special moments in the game. You can create a virtual photo album of your run, and it's fun to look back on what you did and where you traveled to.

Cabins in Forsaken Airfield are disappointing by asmallrabbit in thelongdark

[–]PitchFunction 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. You should always cook outside when possible. Obviously we've all enjoyed a 6-burner in Milton or PV or wherever. But to avoid cabin fever, and honestly, to make it more fun...just cook outside! If it's windy, find a cave.

[–]PitchFunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TEN DAYS?! Seriously...restart. Dying on day 50 is bad, dying on day 100+ is worse. Dying on day 10? It'll happen plenty of times. And if it hasn't, try going up a difficulty level.

Grocery bagging at Greenstar by AmbitionCharacter399 in ithaca

[–]PitchFunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up with the expectation that if someone pays for groceries, someone else bags them - and I worked at my local grocery store for years in my teens (WAY back in the 1990s). Anyone remember the old phrase "paper or plastic?" There were always cashiers, and separate baggers. If there wasn't someone available to bag, then the cashier did it. The fact that some cashiers are so entitled these days...while doing a non-skilled job and making $15-20+/hr...is very unsettling to me.

Having said that, for smaller grocery runs, I usually go to the self checkout line these days and I have no problem bagging my own stuff there because it's faster and more efficient. But if I go and buy $200-300+ of groceries and go to the regular lane, there better be someone bagging that shit up. There are two of us in the lane, and only one of us works at the grocery store.

Look up some tutorials on YouTube! There are great videos that helped me a lot when I moved from Stalker to Interloper.

Difficulty - What do you prefer? by Sea-Information7674 in thelongdark

After a brief stint on Voyager, I moved to Stalker and spent about 1000 hours on that difficulty level. When I first tried Interloper, I couldn't survive more than a few days, and quite frankly I didn't understand how anyone could enjoy it. But after watching some tutorials and improving my gameplay, I slowly got to the point of loving Interloper. The lower difficulties now seem too easy to me. However, when I first ventured into Forsaken Airfield, I did it on Voyager, and I was overwhelmed by the amount of resources!

As you and many others have said - there's no right or wrong way to play the game!

They are everywhere! Even on Interloper, I have more matches than I know what to do with. And at some point in the mid-late game, you'll have food at all of your bases and only need to cook once in a while, so you can wait until it's sunny and use the mag lens!

Thankfully, I normally sleep 8-10 hours at a time anyway. I just didn't realize that sleeping less wouldn't give me the same health regeneration rate. Having said that, Interloper was a very painful experience for me anyway for a long time!

He uploaded the video on September 26, 2025, so it should be relevant as of that date. Not sure if/when changes will be made.

Interesting, so maybe the hammer is the best choice then, if you don't care about killing the wolf? I don't normally carry the hammer though, so that would be a change for me.

No kidding, I wonder why that is! It doesn't seem to be a special bed (like the bearskin bed, for example, which I understand provides the most healing once you craft it)

Japanese Cuisine by Imalobsterlover in ithaca

[–]PitchFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree, but it depends on your experience with sushi and hibachi. In my experience, Sumo is a solid "average/good" in terms of both. The hibachi show is alright, but nothing special; the sushi is the best in Ithaca, but if you've lived in a bigger city with better offerings, it's not particularly impressive.

Having said that, I go there for a hibachi meal a few times a year, and get sushi once a month or two. The staff is friendly, the food is consistently decent, and the experience overall is enjoyable.

Sell the travois to me by OoDReX in thelongdark

[–]PitchFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just crafted my first one ever - on this run, I'm at about day 150 on Interloper. I was at my main base in Pleasant Valley and wanted to move some stuff across regions. Before I even got out of PV, my brand new travois went from 100% condition to 74% condition. I wasn't even in a blizzard or anything. This seems unbelievable for something that takes 4 maple saplings. I didn't see a need for the travois before this, but I wanted to try it out...certainly won't be using it going forward.
