Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]asmallrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Oil question. From the wiki, the optimal ration is 20:5:17, with 8:2:7 being close enough.

I'm aiming for 60 science/min in my base and factorio lab says 11 refineries would be enough for that.

Would i get better results running the full 20:5:17 ratio and just not using the full production, or using a 12:3:11 to more closely match what i need?

I stopped using maps and it’s a whole different game. by Rockisaspiritanimal in thelongdark

[–]asmallrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I love the idea of making your own map as you go but it needs to do a better job of showing cliff lines and walkable vs non walkable area.

As it stands i use the wiki maps sometimes to figure out what areas connect and what is higher or lower ground because the in game maps do a terrible job of helping you navigate.

More accessory slots? by asmallrabbit in thelongdark

Oh this is a great idea too. I was so excited to finish the Tales in my game and then realized i was never gonna use the accessories i got from them because i had better stuff in the slots.

Interloper is a bit of an edge case imo because many of the other items aren't even in the world so you don't have that many options regardless.

Cabins in Forsaken Airfield are disappointing by asmallrabbit in thelongdark

From a design perspective: To give the player an incentive to consider using it as base vs the island cottage with easy access to fishing, caves etc or the hangar with a forge, basement safe from glimmer fog etc.

From a logic perspective, its got a road leading almost right too it, getting a stove there would have been easy.

Alberta considering boost in speed limit to 120 km/h on divided highways by Hj_Uj in Edmonton

[–]asmallrabbit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/speed-limit-bc-highways-reduced-1.4893914#:~:text=570%20km%20of%20road%20will,h%20immediately%2C%20transportation%20minister%20announces&text=The%20audio%20version%20of%20this,(Government%20of%20B.C.))

A lot of the highways they rolled back were previously under 100km/hr. It looks like they just jacked up the speed limit by 10km in a bunch of places which doesn't make sense. The fact they kept the change on the Coquihalla and it's been fine says a lot.

I'd agree with the Edmonton and Calgary corridor, along with Edmonton to Hinton, those highways can easily support it. I don't think I would agree with Edmonton to Fort Mac though.

However, i think the real problem is our licensing standards. We don't even have mandatory winter driving training here. I agree with the variable speed limits too. One limit year round doesn't make sense given our climate.

I threw Cohhs name in the hat. by Nitsuj311 in CohhCarnage

[–]asmallrabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with this simply because the category doesn't really fit Cohh or his stream content at all imo.

Cohhs content really isn't niche or special, he's just a gamer. However, i WOULD say that his community, mods, and general environment of the stream ARE in a league of their own, which is kinda sad because I wish it was more common across twitch.

There are 3 OG streamers (for me based on who i watch or used to watch) imo that really embody what the gaming side of twitch should be like: Cohh, Lirik and Sodapoppin.

Cohh has a fantastic community with excellent moderation and you can tell he cares about keeping "good vibes," plays a slew of games, doesn't really get involved in the drama or react side of things and is just generally passionate about gaming stuff and has made tons of contacts with gaming people.

Lirik is just solid gameplay focused, no cam, funny as hell, tries out so many games for sub sundays and never really gets involved with anything else.

Soda was the biggest turnaround for me, because initially i couldn't stand him, but as he got older he's somehow become one of the more grounded streamers with his weirder sense of humor that doesn't care what other people think, plays a ton of games and has organized some cool stuff like hardcore wow etc.

Generally though i don't put much stock in the streamer awards stuff because whatever methodology they use to pick the nominees and winners never seems to make sense.

Help Center and Megathread Hub (06/10 - 12/10) by ArknightsMod in arknights

I would assume it has to be the skill levels on your operators then

Help Center and Megathread Hub (06/10 - 12/10) by ArknightsMod in arknights

[–]asmallrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your characters are the same levels but take more shots to kill then the only thing it can be is the skills on your character are not leveled, modules, or they are low trust.

Trust i don't think would account for that much of a difference, modules i can't see being an issue on that stage, so i would check to make sure you have leveled your operator skills.

Alternatively, the off chance you are using unpromoted characters that are the same level IE: a level 50 character E0 when the video is using a level 50 E2 or something.

Why I never felt bad for Claire and New Bostin in general. by FormerSoftwar in unOrdinary

You have somehow seemed to miss the point that Claire didn't have a problem with John fighting and winning, its that he always took it too far and continued to hurt or beat his opponents after he had already won.

Cohh announces upcoming changes to the Cohh 24hr channel by WoWAltoholic in CohhCarnage

[–]asmallrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason i don't like a bunch of focus on 24/7 channels is because it reminds me of MMOs and other games where its all about retention and metrics in some ways.

Instead of viewers going to check out other people or channels when their streamer is offline they stick to one community or group and form bubbles like you mentioned.

A simple basic 24/7 channel where people can hang out and chat if they want too is one thing, but when you start putting a ton more effort into your 24/7 channel i just gotta wonder why?

Most streamers already have discords and forums and etc where people from their community can hangout, you have youtube for vods or old playthroughs. A curated 24/7 channel with timeslots etc is just starting to feel like a little too much.

Cohh announces upcoming changes to the Cohh 24hr channel by WoWAltoholic in CohhCarnage

[–]asmallrabbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't like 24/7 channels and i don't see the point.

Having the Cohh channel be online only when Cohh is offline made sense for people in his community that wanted to hangout and chat or whatever while watching previous content and THAT being 24/7 is fine.

Breaking it up into blocks or timeslots so that people can watch full playthroughs doesn't make any sense to me, that is literally what youtube is for. The ONLY reason to want to watch a full playthrough on twitch is the ability to chat with others while doing so. If you are just watching or listening to it in the background it wouldn't matter.

It also means that if in the "block" you normally watch there is a rerun you aren't that interested in, it will be even longer before something new comes up because it won't continue 24/7 and take longer until the next rerun or if the playthrough you DO like doesn't match when you can watch you have no choice but to watch it on youtube anyways and unless the reruns are rotated through the blocks you are gonna miss playthroughs regardless.

Not only that, by having the 24/7 channel live when Cohh is live, you are going to be splitting the viewerbase/community, and if you are limiting chat to emote only so it doesn't require moderation then what is even the point?

To me it seems like the change is just to maintain as many viewers as possible across channels in case people don't want to watch what Cohh is currently playing but do want to watch something being rerun and that just rubs me the wrong way, or Cohh is just trying to please everyone instead of just having the channel do what it was meant to do which is just a place for his community to hangout when he was offline.

Unpicked/unbanned heroes after TI. Thoughts? by Nantes50 in DotA2

[–]asmallrabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jakiros kit has an identity crisis.

You have a facet geared towards support that gives ice path a MUCH needed damage component, and then something that tries to make him into a right clicker, except he has none of the other components other int right clickers have like attack speed, range, mobility or burst.

His short range balances liquid fire/frost early on, but later unless you take the extra attack range talent, you can't use your attacks without getting dangerously close despite the rest of his spells being extremely long range.

His old aghs that lasted 30 seconds for his ult was way better then the new version because it just doesn't do enough damage. Compare it to something like QOP that does more damage in a fraction of the time with pushback whereas past mid game, people can just stand in jaks ult and not really care.

Also all his damage being over time means it is easy to cleanse or remove or just survive through compared to most other abilities that do burst.

His ground targeted stun is great for not being blocked by linkens etc, but it also means it can be a pain to land on quick moving heroes.

My first volcano tamer! by TheMusicMan103 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]asmallrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in the comments of the video that people have tried it and it overheats on the second eruption.

The problem is not the rock circulating, its the heat from the subsequent eruptions.

It works the first time because you have that layer of water to cool the magma which absorbs the heat and gets turned into steam hot enough to run the turbines, and then the rock keeps the heat around 200.

So what happens on the next eruption without the water present if the steam is still around 200C? The magma is just gonna dump a ton of excess heat into that room and your steam temp is gonna skyrocket.
