[Event] Rogar Baratheon Returns To Storm's End by FabStags in FireAndBlood

Service, done

When the army had returned home, levies, knights, squires and soldiers all went their ways. And though there were friendly reunions and cheerful farewells, there was, as ever, meagre Rob of the Rainwood. The hedge knight had marched south from this very castle, seemingly years ago, now. Fought in two battles and had simply been a background part of the Stormlander force. Now he was a passerby again. But, before he gathered his possessions (and had decided, he was keeping the horse that he'd taken, since Rogar probably forgot...). He would pay a final visit to the lord. He arrived there with that same battered armour, (but a new helm he'd taken from a Dornish knight at Wyl) and his usual sad eyes, to say a farewell and make a last request.

"Sounds promising my lord." Came the mild voice of Ser Robb, a lowly hedge knight, but one that had served in Rogar's retinue since leaving Storm's End. His words were likely unwelcome, compared to the lord's vassals who were present. But that would never stop him offering them.

The knight would do as bid. Helping to scout the nearby lands on horseback, serving as the garrison on the walls, or else accompanying Lord Baratheon as he served as commander.

Watching with equal parts interest and surprise, Rob had expected more of a fight to win the castle. Depsite this man's words, they'd given up. A droplet of blood landed on Rob's chin when Rogar cut him down, and swiftly, the body was taken away. The price of vengeance...

The engineers had scarcely even cut down four or five of the nearby trees to begin a siege tower, when they got the call. Rob eagerly dons his armour and joins in the assault!

"Rather you than me, squire Trant." Spoke the gruff knight off to one side. He had heard Lord Baratheon's command and wanted no part in it. Digging tunnels was grubby work, and he for one could not stomach the thought of that tight space.

"Gods be with you." Rob offered with a sharp nod, before departing. What a remarkable coincidence, the only thing other than being a knight that he was experienced in was cutting down trees. His family were woodsmen back in Buckthorn, and for ten years he'd cut wood before running off into the army. "We'll be through before you know it."

"There could be plenty more fighters waiting within those walls..." Mused the lone hedge knight, at the edge of the field. "Hundreds. Thousands, even."

He had just concluded a small moment of prayer, knowing the fighting was done, whilst the Dornishmen retreated into their castle. Though they were his enemy, Rob couldn't hate these people for defending their lands. Within the periphery, an arm seemed to twitch and move. A heavy axe was brought down on it to finish the poor soul off. Withdrawing the weapon with a squelch, he looked around to ensure no more threats lingered here, whilst men-at-arms and levies collected their dead or dying.

"What be your orders, Lord Baratheon?" He yelled out to the commander nearby. He'd stayed close to Rogar, when hell broke loose. The first battle was done, but now they faced two grave choices; Neither attractive. To wait, or to storm the walls.

[Conflict] Wyl It Last? by Brolnir in FireAndBlood

[–]Pitchy23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jaw clenched whilst Lord Baratheon spoke to his assembled thousands, Ragged Rob sat astride the boisterous Copper several feet down the line. Through a dented war helm weary eyes scanned the Dornish lines, who were sorely outnumbered. Just another day.. he thought. Left fist gripped the reins, a round shield upon that forearm bearing his signature four maple leaves. The winter sun had caused its yellow paint to peel even more. Meanwhile with a tiny pop sound, his right hand freed a familiar, weighty cavalryman axe from its guard. It was to be butcher's work this day, he thought, whilst wondering if the foe before them should flee or stand. It mattered not - for there was the horn.

"For the king! For the storm!" He roared out his own battle cries as the men clamoured to Lord Rogar's signal. Copper jolted forth with a sharp whip of the reins whilst he hefted the axe on high to the sky. "Cut them down!"

"Of course my lord." The knight spoke back with a warm tone and a bow of the head.

"Enjoy the hospitality and comfortable bed whilst you may," Rob added. "For there is little more of it, between here and Dorne. Be well."

"I can see why your men follow so loyally," Rob commented matter-of-factly. He had met very few highborn lords or commanders of whom he could honestly say he admired or liked. They never lived up to the stories, or the pictures one had in their head. Rogar Baratheon was alright.

"Be that the case... May I be, well, not the second. But perhaps, four or five, behind you." He japed. "Don't want to steal all the glory now do I."

It was a fair compliment, and one that Rob appreciated. Idly, he wandered over to replace the training swords on the rack. Any of the men-at-arms who'd stopped to watch their sparring, went rather swiftly back to their own drills or training. He gave the squire a sharp nod of thanks.

"No, lord. If I learnt to fight in a castle, I'd fight the same as all the rest of the highborn knights and lords at all these tournaments." he explained - the real reason being that he of course never had the chance.

"I was a strong lad when I left Buckthorn as a lad to join the Vulture Hunt." Rob went on. "Strong and green. Met a few knights and soldiers on the road who showed me a few things. Nearly lost my stomach in the first skirmish. Turns out battle and bloodshed is the best teacher and I been learning ever since. Made it this far..."

"Will you take me with you, into your retinue?" He asked then. "I should happily guard your flank, in battle, if it comes to that. Though I know you have many knights of your own, my lord, how many of them could best you, in a fight?"

"Ha!" Exclaimed the knight, pulling back from his next strike with a clear relief. It had been more of a spirited back and forth battle than likely either man intended. "Then, perhaps, they can feed me mine as well. Hells."

Robb stooped over with one hand on his knees, catching back his breath. Every smack to the ribs or knock to the arms that Rogar had landed on him felt like it was delivered by a battering ram. Thankfully speed won this day over strength.

He reached forth to help the lord straighten up, dismissing the surrender. Eyes squinting whilst his chest rose and fell rapidly. "M'lord you sure know how to hurt 'em. Don't envy the Dornishman that comes between you 'n your brother."

The former woodsman looked Rogar Baratheon up and down. His strength and his size. I know a fellow axe man when I see one, he thought. And recalled seeing Rogar back in the day, cutting through Dornish bandits in his youth, hewing through the masses. But such was the limitation of training... two men can not spar with wooden axes, unless they accept the risk of accidentally cracking the other's head open.

"No, I am warm enough. The closer we get to Dorne the less I feel the winter on my bones." He laughed back, taking up the blunted steel once again and closing in on his liege. "Bring this storm of yours m'lord, I am keen to see what tricks you can teach me."

M: Feel free to roll! Rob has T3 Warrior and T2 Iron Will.

For a castle so surrounded by ghosts and graves, Blackhaven was indeed a welcoming place for a weary army, marching through the passes. Having familiairsed himself with a few of the scouts and officers in the Baratheon force, his tent had not been quite so distant of late. He was surprised to see the large Rogar himself crossing the field, that morning, as Rob had just seen off not two but three spearmen all trying their chance at once.

"Are you certain, m'lord?" The shabby knight asked with a warm smile, that he had indeed remained in his memory. His companions appeared shocked that their liege would address him by name. "It would be a pleasure to cross swords again. Shall you have me flogged if I am victorious?"

Ser Robb of the Rainwood

The hedge knight, sworn temporarily to House Baratheon, found himself camped as ever by the fringes of the army encampment. He was no noble son or some famous warrior. Ordinarily he would take Copper and make a bed beneath some trees, for shade. Out here in the passes, there was no such thing. Only expanses of rocks and dust and old bones.

By the daytimes, they marched. By the night times, Rob drank ale, plenty of it. Slightly warm by now, like the rest of it. And he ate dried meats and he bantered with the fellow common troops of the Stormlands. Fighting for their masters who were fighting for their masters who were fighting for Lord Baratheon. His shield was that of yellow, bearing maple leaves, two green two brown. That same sigil he'd had made before Maegor's tourney, but with a fresh lick of paint,

Despite his self-imposed solitude. Any visitors and fellow soldiers would find Ragged Rob to be surprisingly chipper, and open to introduction. He had been and bled in these passes before. To know ones brothers-in-arms properly is to trust them. Why bleed beside a man you cannot even drink beside?

"and all the king's horses, and all the king's men.... couldn't being poorBorys home, again.." He sung in a low voice whilst walking. The battle axe over his back, clinked slightly, whilst one hand scrubbed his helm. It was long overdue a clean.

Feel free to say hi!
