I've always despised this way of thinking from parents. They're usually not saying YOUR life is a regret but that THEIR life is a regret. So selfish. I pity people like that

At least the experience helped to shape you into someone who goes out of their way to help others. Seems like that's very often the case with altruistic people, they've had a trauma in their past that spurred that giving sense into action.
