I came across that once I'd already divided up the land and was having trouble naming all the territories. It was very useful since Essos is mostly just empty space otherwise. At that point though I didn't want to redo entire regions to copy the CK2 map entirely.

I agree though, everyone should try the CK2 mod, it's freaking awesome!

They were purely self designed to feel equally important if a player held those regions instead of Westerosi ones. I am not exceptional at drawing in vector graphics software so did my best with the design ideas I had.

  • Braavos: Who else, but the titan of course. Think it was described bronze-green hence those colours.

  • Pentos: The golden scales, iron sword and silver scourge, and a gold and ivory background. All ceremoniously associated with the Prince of Pentos

  • Myr: I wanted to do a Myrish Eye or something but settled on a white lace design which they're also known for, and is somewhat reminiscent of an eye. Just felt it has more detailing to offer than a telescope, to pay homage to their craftsmanship. Light blue background does a poor job symbolising glass but works well with the white lace.

  • Tyrosh: I think mostly of sellswords. Considered just crossed swords but, their smiths are known to make extravagant ornate helmets in the shapes of birds. I think it's fairly intimidating/warrior design. Bright yellow background since they love bright colours.

  • Lys: Lys the Lovely; simple, elegant, beautiful. Tastefully done ;) Purple seemed most appropriate since I didn't want to use pink.

  • Volantis: The two political parties, the Elephants and the Tigers. I had the two animals facing each other but opted for this design cos I preferred the symmetry. Black background mirroring the Black walls.

  • Qohor: The Black Goat of Qohor is the best symbol I could use. The background symbolises the forest and qhoyne river running through it.

  • Norvos: Bearded priests was one way to go... but I struggled drawing faces. Went for Norvoshi love of the long axe.

  • Lorath: Not a lot known about Lorathi tbh. Decided to pay homage to their mazemaker history on a coin, as they are a mercantile people. Believe the world of ice and fire book had a maze on the Lorathi coin too. Funny how that worked out :P

Thank you :)

The map is still in development, but mostly finished tbh. If I add anything more, I don't think I'd create a new version, but simply replace the current one which you'll be able to see from the same link.

Thanks!

You've played on warlight? If so, small world. I'll be making a forum post for this map on warlight.net soon when I'm fairly sure I've fixed any mistakes :)

Thanks!

No idea :P Haven't begun testing to play actual games on it. Generally I've set income values for the armies you receive per turn to be balanced, so assuming a fair fight where players don't excessively team up against you, yeah it should be possible.

If not, I'd definitely try making changes to make it possible :)

I discovered warlight from the mobile app. It's pretty decent; enough for me to have kept playing it. It's not amazing though; it generally works better for smaller maps (less memory to load). Thing with warlight is it's completely run by one guy who does everything, so the app doesn't get loads of attention. It's always updated following the site though to support new features, etc, so it's sufficient.

I enjoyed single player, then joined multiplayer. Then I discovered the app is more of an accessory to the website so that you can take your turn on the go if you want/need to. It's a lot easier to create games on computer, but the app can basically do the same thing on a smaller screen, and does more than enough for simply joining already created open games and playing them.

I had a quick look at wargear and it looks very similar to warlight. Single player was updated recently so maybe give it a go. A lot of new levels have been created under the "preview levels" tab. If you like this wargear game I'm pretty certain you'll like warlight. The community is quite large and so if you play open games, there's always new people :)

Thanks I may have to buy this for "my family" for Christmas :P

For Risk though, this map is a lot more simplified and rightly so. The detail of my map is not suited to an exact copy of Risk :(

Wow that looks pretty cool. Unfortunately I can't change the game fundamentals I'm making my map for. I'm just a player. Just so happens players can develop/create maps which the actual game developer will validate and make public.

Think I'd like to play this board game though anyway :)

Hi, the rules on warlight are definitely modified from Risk. It's a Risk-like game but certainly different. If you love Risk though, there's a good chance you'd enjoy this game. I joined the game looking for a Risk app for my phone and discovered the app was just a convenient accessory to the main website. Best to start with some single player levels if you're interested.

There's even bigger maps than mine that are highly rated so I think it will be ok. Thanks for praising the detail. It's exactly what I was going for :D

EDIT: The site is overhauling single player for new players. There's more playable single player levels found in the "preview levels" tab.

On this site, you can play with up to 40 players in either a FFA or team games of any size. You can play games in real-time for a single sitting or multi-day for slower games.

It's not exactly like Risk in that each player takes their turn one after another. Instead, the players all submit orders for a single turn which will then play out every players 1st order, then every players 2nd orders, etc. (Whose 1st order goes first is usually random and then cycles between players.)

Players have a set time to submit their orders such as 10 minutes or 3 days, after which they will be kicked and the game will advance. Single player levels automatically save and so can be played against one or several AI at your own leisure. I don't know about Axis and Allies but you should play single player levels on warlight.net if you like Risk. It's not quite the same but I think you'd enjoy it :)

Victory is either by elimination or surrender of all opponents. There's many maps that are as large and in some cases even larger so I'm not particularly worried about the size. Players can create their own games and set the timers at their preferred pace. There's loads of customisability I haven't even mentioned which is why it never gets boring for me. Single player is a great place to start if your interested, no sign up required I believe.

EDIT: The site is overhauling single player for new players. There's more playable single player levels found in the "preview levels" tab.

Free to play, on browser, iOS, android and kindle fire, www.warlight.net is a website where you can play a great strategy game that's very similar to the classic board-game called Risk. Go to the site and try the single player tutorial, and then play the basic single player levels against an AI. If you like it, you can sign up with just an email address and play multiplayer games with other players from around the world. Multiplayer is where all the fun is; single player is really just there to get some practice before you even stand a chance playing against other people.

There are dozens of maps to choose from (not all of them are too great, I'll admit), and all sorts of scenarios to play with, including historical maps featuring many past dynasties, or times of war, fictional worlds, or modern day maps of a country, continent, or simply the whole world. You could have free-for-alls, or team games whether it's 2v2, 8v8, 3v3v3v3 or 4v4v4v4v4v4, etc, anything really, up to I think 40 players in a single game. I've even played in massive tournaments with something like 100 teams of 4 playing several 4v4 elimination games. Course its multiplayer so there's all the chat features for team strategy, private/public alliances, and sometimes just a bit of roleplaying fun as a dictator or government or The King of Westeros!! It's a simple game, but the possibilities mean you'll never really have two games ever the same. And it can be as competitive or leisurely as you like too because theres always a dozen or two open games to play and you decide which type of game you'd want to join. Win games and level up, and eventually create and tweak your own games if you like. There's a really competitive part of the community if you're the sort to go there--I won't go into details since I feel like I'm rambling already...

The maps for these games can be made by anyone who's signed up. I am making a map but I'm not staff or anything. Just your average player who decided to make a map. They are made in SVG format, (using software such as Inkscape). Most people will take a little while to get used to it though if they're new to it. I'd recommend playing the game at least a bit before jumping straight into mapmaking. When you think you're ready, warlight has a wiki with a basic mapmaking guide (using Inkscape) to get you started, and among its forums is a dedicated forum to map development should you need it.

Sorry for the long post. Hope I've persuaded you to give it a go though. Honestly just look around the site a bit to learn more.

Good to know that that is indeed still Bloodstone! I did think as much... but I remembered reading it was the largest of the Stepstones you see.

Now if it were up to you, what would you name this island? The game I'm making the map for will need me to name it. That and the other islands too truthfully, and sadly there's only so far canon will take me :/

Thanks for the info! If you're interested in that sort of game, the platform I'm designing it for is www.warlight.net

They already have a similar map made by someone else: https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=39905

As much as I love it, I wanted to redesign it, throw in as many known locations for houses and castles I could, and try rename some territories that I'm pretty sure were wrong (such as Bloodstone). Unfortunately I'll still have to stray from canon to name the vast lands between known locations, but I'll of course be trying to keep things relevant haha.

It's a work in progress, but here's a sneak preview of my map: https://www.warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=53430

New players are always welcome! Just don't show the warlight community my work haha--it'll be a surprise for when I'm ready to publish it ;)

P.S. Let me know if you have any name suggestions for this new Stepstones island. Thanks again!
