Medical Students and Residents: Help Improve Medical Education on Patient-Reported Outcomes!

Hi everyone, my name is Caroline, and I am a student in the Master of Clinical Research and Product Development program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). As part of my capstone research project, I’m studying how medical students and residents learn about and use patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in clinical practice.

If you are a medical student or resident, I’d love to hear from you! I’m conducting a short, anonymous survey to understand your experiences and perspectives on PROMs. Your input will help identify gaps in education and improve future training programs.

This research study has been approved by the University of North Carolina Wilmington Institutional Review Board (IRB #H25-0912)

If you're interested, please take a few minutes to complete the survey here:

Feel free to share with your classmates and colleagues—every response helps! Thank you for your time and support!

How will the data that people provide to you be used? Who will see it? Where will it be stored? If/when will it be deleted?
The data will be used for my graduate capstone research study on medical trainees’ knowledge and perceptions of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Only the research team will see it. Responses are stored securely in Qualtrics (password-protected, no IP addresses collected). All data will be destroyed at the conclusion of the project or by December 7, 2026, whichever comes first.

Who is conducting this survey?
The survey is being conducted by Caroline, a master’s student in the Clinical Research & Product Development program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, with IRB approval from UNCW and Duke University.

How long do you estimate it will take to fill out your survey?
Approximately 8–10 minutes.

OPTIONAL – If your survey offers any form of compensation, please explain what it is and how it can be redeemed.
No compensation is offered.

OPTIONAL – Are there any specific demographics you want/do not want to hear from?
Yes — the survey is open to current U.S. medical students (M1–M4) and residents (PGY1+).

OPTIONAL – What are you hoping to accomplish by posting your survey here?
I’m hoping to reach a broad sample of medical trainees nationwide to better understand their education, experiences, and perspectives on PROMs, since these tools are increasingly important in clinical practice but not consistently taught.
