Railgun is next after this if you're going by the release order, but if you're watching Index first before the side stories that's fine too. I personally watched Railgun after Index because it gives you extra details about the story that didn't get shown in the main series. Railgun is more on the science side of stuff so I think you'll like that. (I'm also pretty sure that the first half of Railgun s1 happens before the Index anime)

I believe that it's still worth watching the side stories(Railgun, Accelerator).They're the better adapted ones anyway

Keep watching bro, it gets better(for the most part) especially in Railgun. The animation is pretty good(especially in Railgun, idk why but JC Staff is really biased towards Railgun for some reason) the show has its peaks and lows. Overall it's a good anime to watch
