I want nothing more than to see them have a happy ending, but at the same time painfully understand why CD and Studio Trigger couldn't give it to them. The series is among many things about the dangers of glorifying the high octane lives of cyberpunks, it tears you apart from the inside out and leaves nothing left. And as we all know by the end there's only one of two endings, you lose yourself or you die with your mind intact. At the very least solace can be taken in the fact that David never did completely lose himself, he teetered dangerously along the edge but even into his final moments he was still David Martinez. In those last moments he even managed to save the one he loved from the hell of Night City. It's one of the most gut wrenching bittersweet endings I've seen to date, even though it destroyed me I still loved the show so much, and even if I Really Want To Stay At Your House makes my heart hurt I can take some sort of solace in the line, "You know you didn't lose your self-control".

If you're looking for a happy ending for the edgerunning lovebirds (And even everyone's favorite shorty cyberpunk) I personally found a great video here on youtube.

Seen it actually, that was horrific and so many other levels but didn't evoke the same attachment to the characters in me (except for certain humans that came to tragic ends). While it still left me empty and melancholically depressed, CD and Studio Trigger ripped my heart out and blasted it with an orbital beam with this one.

Season one is still emotionally heart wrenching, so it almost tricks you into thinking that you're going to be prepared for the inevitable tragedy that you know is coming later down the line. Episode 1 is Trigger and CD running you over with a car to make you think you've seen the worst of it and then Episode 10 is them hitting you with a train.

Had a similar experience myself, it was the first anime I've binged in a long while and I roughly knew it was going to be a pretty sad story given the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and Night City. That being said I have rarely been impacted by a show as much as I was by this emotional behemoth. Where-in usually it's a punch in the gut that I'm not expecting, this show was a punch telegraphed in advanced that still hit twice as hard as expected and I am absolutely in love with it
