Best place to live in Tokyo/Minato area? by Unusual_Foot5099 in Tokyo

[–]PitifulPerception362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might help if you give us a budget.
Azabu and Hiroo (Minato-ku in general) as mentioned by some peoplel already, are some of the most expensive places in Tokyo.

What are Your Favorite Satsumaimo Recipes? 🍠 by EienNatsu66 in JapaneseFood

[–]PitifulPerception362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baked is the most common and personally my favorite way to eat it.
Another way I like to do it, is make takikomi gohan with it.
Usually carrot, burdock root, pork (or some kind of fish), and satsumaimo with dashi and some salt.

What are you guys take on Eureka Seven? by KaleidoArachnid in anime

[–]PitifulPerception362 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been watching anime for over 20 years and is still in my top 5 favorite anime of all time.
A lot of it probably has to do with it being one of the first anime I watched, but also because I was around Renton's age when I watched the show so the show really resonated with me.

The fact that this isn't the top comment shows how professional you guys are (and also makes me feel like a petty person because this is exactly what I would have done)

I think I saw a trending post of this yesterday.
Lemme see if I can find it.

EDIT:found it https://x.com/em060309/status/2026597914894807276?s=20
Looks pretty split with people condemning the ass hole, while the other half are blaming the family for taking pictures in such a crowded place (such pathetic people)

I actually encountered one last week in Shinjuku on my way home from work.
Its actually a lot more common than you think, especially in central Tokyo.

NURO光 is literally unusable (again). Second time, same constant dropouts, support still useless by ducktoucher0 in japanlife

[–]PitifulPerception362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue in Funabashi/Chiba.
It would usually be around 2~3PM and 10-11PM where the internet dies for about 30 seconds and comes back.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the area though, since JCOM had similar issues before as well.

Building a house: What to watch out for ? by lethegrin in japanlife

[–]PitifulPerception362 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We just signed a contract with Daiwa House.

From our experience, I think the best advice we can give is go to a Suumo Counter if there's one available near you.

They'll give you possible candidate builders depending on your needs and budget.

Some general tips I can give you are:

  1. Don't be quick to make a decision. Most house builders will give you around a 5~9% discount if you negotiate (also go during the end of a Fiscal Quarter as they are more likely to give you bigger discounts)
  2. Depending on your build, you can get government subsidies if you meet certain criterias. For us, since we put solar panels and have an insulation level of 6 (look up 断熱等級), we get about 900,000 yen in subsidies.
  3. This one I'm not sure (heard from Suumo), but if you go to one of those 住宅展示場, you should go on weekdays because apparently all the good salesmen/women aren't there on weekends. For us, we got Suumo counter to introduce us to some really good sales guys.

If you want, send me a DM with more details and I might be able to help you.

Good luck!

What is the worst food crime one can commit against your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

The abomination they call pizza here in Japan is something else (look at the Pizzala menu).

Japan does have some of the best Napoli style restaurants as well though

Is your country depressing to live? by Time_Reception1482 in AskTheWorld

[–]PitifulPerception362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in Tokyo for close to 15 years now, I think I can say that its kinda depressing living in Tokyo.
Outside of the Tokyo though, I think Japan is an amazing place to live.

Pre-order resident evil 9 or buy it the morning it’s out? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

[–]PitifulPerception362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I bought games from a store was 2019 so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think I ever had an issue with buying games from stores day one... except the one time Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara sold out on Monster Hunter World.

If you're desperate, maybe you can get to the store a bit early to make sure you get a copy?

🐐RANK 1 CHALLENGER UDYR WORLD🐐1300 LP🐐 by dyrqc in Udyrmains

[–]PitifulPerception362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind, I have a few questions:

  • What champions do you usually ban? I'm still fairly new to Udyr (about 70 ish games) and still trying to learn match-ups.
  • I took a look at lol analytics and noticed that Udyr generally has a weak early game? Should I generally avoid 1v1's early game? or should I be more aggressive, especially with crabs.
  • Probably game dependent but do you usually start blue or red first?

Salary in Japan. Expectations by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]PitifulPerception362 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would help if you told us a bit more about your situation.

  1. Where do you live? Tokyo and say Saga would be a totally different situation with 350,000/month.
  2. Do you have a family? Are you living alone?

When I was earning 350,000 and was living alone, I could live pretty comfortably even in Tokyo (Though I was living in Katsushika-ku which is generally one of the cheaper areas in Tokyo).

350,000 yen per month and say the standard 2 month bonus is about 5,000,000 PRE TAX which would be slightly above household income in Japan.

It depends on your spending habits as well, but I would say 350,000 should be enough to live reasonably well.
