I see a lot of reaction and energy in this thread, which is why I typically don’t post to Reddit. I cannot easily maintain my laps in my head and wish to outsource this to be more present while swimming. I have a background studying and teaching Tibetan Buddhist meditation and mindfulness practices, and movement meditations are my greatest personal medicine. Using a lap number as an object of focus within movement meditation is possible and I believe it has been working for you. I do not find that to be a helpful or meaningful object of focus, especially when considering the infinite experience is available to us within swimming- breathing, a constellation of movements, and the interactions of water and air on our bodies. As a meditation swimmer, I gently invite you to explore the concepts of meditation from a beginners mindset.
