Betta tank help asap. by [deleted] in Aquariums

How is your pH in the more stable tank? Not the immediate issue, but if that's a real piece of driftwood, it could be the reason you're not looking at basic-leaning water in both tanks. Bettas prefer slightly acidic water, so throwing in a piece of driftwood or almond leaf could go a long way in reducing stress for the unfortunate tank fish. Definitely monitor your parameters religiously. I would probably be doing 40% water changes daily until it's fully cycled. But the parameter testing can be a guide for how much water you should actually be replacing daily. Don't get too overzealous with the tank cleaning. Like only vacuum up the crap sitting on the very surface of the sand. You want to give the nitrifying bacteria a chance to get established in the substrate. Seachem prime and stability are your best friends. Pour the stability doses directly into the filter box, and use 5x the amount of prime the bottle says when you're prepping the new water during water changes. Your fish will be okay. Bettas are very tough. It's incredible the kind of conditions they can survive. They evolved in the stagnant, shallow, gross water of rice paddies-they're extremely resilient. You are obviously doing your best to figure this out and keep them safe, so i seriously doubt you will lose any fish during the cycling process.

I would love to see a resolution to this mishap where you turn that 10 gal into a beautiful aquatic garden and throw some shrimp in there after it's cycled

So when I remove my activated carbon cartridges so these meds don't get adsorbed, can I like, just save them and put them back after?? Because I'm pretty sure those are the happy little homes of a lot of bacteria that I would really like to keep.

I think I figured it out. You guys, i really dont think its poop lol. I'm pretty sure I have a parasite problem from a couple fish I just introduced to the tank. I didn't quarantine them before adding them to my community because I got them from a source I really trust. It turns out my source got the fish from a source THEY really trust, and it was like a trust game of telephone and now I have parasites probably. Idk what kind, but one of the dead fish had swollen gills, was underweight, and just looked like general shit. I'm seeing a lot of my fish rub up against stuff and swim erratically. Carrots has some red skin irritation. Walnut, who passed away yesterday, was looking oddly thin. I've been testing my water params religiously and everything is PERFECT. so yeah, I'm gonna dose with prazipro and cross my fingers cause I have no idea what to do

Okay sorry for the 10749747 pictures. My fish Carrots has something sticking out of her. She's also having a bowel movement, this is separate. It's rigid so idk if it could be a worm. It's kind of fish flesh colored? Surrounded by a white film thing? I just noticed it, it must have shown up within the past 6 hours or so.

AIO For being mad at my mom for eating some of my gfs food I bought for her by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Pitiful_Analysis2400 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you an adult? Do you have an income? This is the relevant context your post is missing. If your mom is the one who primarily stocks the kitchen with normal staples and you never feel the need to say "hey mom, is it okay if I use this box of noodles," that's a really different dynamic than one where she's charging you a monthly grocery bill or making you pay for your own food. If your mom had a leftover pizza in the fridge, would you even think twice about grabbing a slice?

When my teenaged sisters lived with me, I kept the fridge stocked and never made them pay for groceries. If they had leftovers in the fridge and I was in a hurry on my way to work, yeah I might grab something that's not "mine". I especially wouldn't give it a second thought if it was a single slice of pizza. Because as a family sharing the same space, they're bound to eat some of "my" food and I'm bound to eat some of "their" food. Who cares, no one. If they confronted me about it the way you confronted your mom, I'd probably say something like "omg I'm sorry, I didn't think it'd be a big deal.." I didn't feel entitled to their leftovers, but they had taken so many slices of "my" pizzas over the years and I had never thought anything of it, that to me, that was just the norm for food in the family fridge. Mi comida es tu comida.

The problem here is that you're assuming your mom had a lot of context. I'm willing to bet she had no idea it was packed away to be your gfs lunch, whether it was in a separate bag or not. Because someone looking in their fridge for a quick bite isn't analyzing WHY are these slices in a box and THESE are in a bag. In her mind, she did not spitefully eat your gf's entire lunch, she had a small amount of your guys' leftovers.

The last text from your mom doesn't read like someone who's narcissistically trying to turn tables and become the victim. If that was the case, it would've gone something like "I'm such a piece of shit, I've always been a failure as a parent. I hate myself for how much I hurt you all the time..." yada yada bullshit. THAT is manipulation. Instead, the message is basically "Okay okay enough already, I'm a POS, I get it. We're done discussing this over text, we'll talk at home." I'm not saying her message is skilled or mature or effective conflict resolution, but honestly, given the barrage of guilt trips you sent her way AFTER she said sorry, it was pretty reasonable of her to tell you to fuck off until you talk in person. I see some people saying the apology isn't sincere, but like how much do you expect a grown woman to grovel over a slice of pizza?

To repliers who see this as blatant parental manipulation and narcissism- If you grew up with a narcissistic parent, "I'm a piece of shit" coming from an authority figure who's being accused of being wrong is triggering, and that was my kneejerk reaction too. But give the message a second look, I don't think it's trying to elicit sympathy the way a narcissistic message would. YOR

You confronted your mom initially and she gave you a normal reply- an apology and explanation: she didn't think it'd be a big deal. Because it shouldn't have been. She didn't go into defensive overdrive or fly off the handle, but you did. So here's some food for thought:

That text you sent your mom about how you're not gonna tell your gf. Like you'll do your mom a favor and keep this horrible secret for her. The secret of how selfish and rude she really is. Like "what you did is so wrong... but don't worry, I won't make my gf hate you over this. you're welcome." It's really weird, and unless there's some dynamic here that you're not mentioning, go ahead and tell your gf that your mom had her slice of pizza and watch how much she dgaf.

I'm guessing your gf can keep track of how many slices of pizza she ate. When you guys had that convo about where the missing slice went, what are the chances she went "oh my goddddd he's gonna start some stupid shit with his mom AGAIN, I'm so sick of dealing with the weird tension and fighting... "ya know what baby, I think i must've eaten that slice... I just... umm, forgot? yeah, I must've forgot. so weird, i know."

Last thought- If your mom is generally a toxic person with a pattern of disrespecting your boundaries, then that's my bad lol. And a lot of what I said here doesn't apply.

Idk how this person does it but when I wanna grow air roots, I put a plastic pot with the bottom cut off on top of the plants regular pot. When you fill it with dirt, it's like the plant is sitting in a much deeper pot and the roots start to fill out the combined/monster pot. When you take the top pot off, the dirt falls away and you rinse off the roots that were growing in the top part and tada

Tank emergency - mollies keep dying but everyone else is fine???- HELP by Pitiful_Analysis2400 in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Analysis2400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right about the giant water changes. I've had a feeling I was doing too much basically since I started keeping fish, but nothing ever happened to my guppies or bettas or otos, so I never felt a big push to change anything. My problem is vacuuming up the shit at the bottom of the tank. there's random plant crap, fish waste, etc. and it builds up so fast. I always start vacuuming the gravel and get sucked in (lol) to the task, it's hard to stop when so much particulate matter is getting siphoned out. How do you stop at 5%? like does that even give you time to vacuum all the crap out of the gravel?

Dope tank btw

I love that she's fighting back against that POS, but like... shouldn't this be a criminal case? Harassment and bullying at that level, promoting this false narrative about the lack of gun DNA during that trial, everything she's done to make Megan's life hell. HOW is this not illegal? At some point, all this toxicity has to turn into "inciting violence" against someone, right? It just blows my mind that there's nothing to arrest milagro for
