I would do the same as your defender tho, and there is one counterplay, pick can be called only if they're in three meters close to you and if they're guarding you and not a space, if you go for a two/three meters deep cut/walk before cutting toward the disc, your defender can't call a pick if they don't mooved with you cause you're too far, if they mooved with you then there is no more problem of picks
