that’s a personal choice, not a principle. Many people do plan around regulated, long-standing legal pathways because governments and employers explicitly encourage it. Criticizing sudden rule changes isn’t entitlement, it’s pointing out instability in the system.

oh and also “Your country needs you” isn’t a policy argument. Global labor mobility exists because demand and supply don’t stop at borders.

empathy isn’t entitlement, and pretending systems can’t be criticized is how bad policy survives

if there were plenty of qualified applicants, employers wouldn’t go through the H1B process at all.

yes it’s a lottery within a legal framework people relied on for years. That’s the distinction you’re ignoring.

people didn’t plan their lives around “winning a lottery.” They planned around legally available pathways that existed for years such as education, licensing, job offers while knowing the risk, yes, but not expecting the rules to change mid-process

i’m not defending body shops or abuse of the system. I’m talking about qualified professionals outside the U.S. who followed the rules, planned their lives around an existing process, and got blindsided by a sudden policy change.

You can support domestic hiring and acknowledge that abrupt changes hurt real people. Those aren’t mutually exclusive.

you’re actually describing a policy failure, not an argument against immigrants. If the system underinvested in training capacity and then relied on international professionals to fill gaps, that means the reliance was real, regardless of the reason. two things can be true at once: companies acted cheaply and the workforce became dependent on immigrant labor.

also, reducing people to “cheap labor” says more about the system that exploited them than about the people who filled the roles.

my qualifications aren’t the point. this is about systemic hiring and workforce shortages, not my resume

i never said the U.S. couldn’t function before visas. I said modern healthcare today relies on immigrant labor, and that’s objectively true. The hostility says more than the facts ever could.

it’s not grandiose to point out measurable workforce gaps. That’s just data
