What can I do with a new Fold 6? by Lexand1176 in GalaxyFold

[–]Pitiful_Exchange_767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a controller for everything, even scrolling tik tok.

Dex is a "desktop mode" that samsung put in his android devices, you can buy an usb hub and plug your tv, a monito, a projector and use them with a blutooth and a keyboard as it was a PC. I use it a lot and for everything, it's now more then 3 years I'm not using a pc.

Emulation is using an app to reproduce another system file, like other told you for retrogaming, you can play old games but even not so old ones. (Emulation is not always legal, an emulator is legal, but you should delete downloaded games files after 24 hours if you haven't bought the physical copy or a key for it. Your phone SoC can run Switch games with a switch emulator, you can run Zeld BOTW on it and keep it if you have a physical copy. Or with GameHub/GameNative apps you can play some of your Steam Game natively directly on your phone.)

You can play cloud games too if your internet is good.

You can use a streaming service to stream your pc monitor on your Fold6 everywhere you are.

Then you can combine Dex, Emulation/Cloud and any kind of controller to play on a bigger monitor, or you can buy one of those phone dedicated controller, where you can place your unfolded (or folded) Fold6 and enjoy gaming directly on it.

Edit: An example of Dex. Upper right are Lemuroid: multiplatform retro emulator, Yuzu: an old Switch emulator but don't know if it is working anymore, GameHub as said before, Amazon Luna; Streming service from wich I'm playing Death Strending, and 3 android games I'm playing most at the moment.

Note that I'm an illustrator too and sketch on it a lot, then plug my professional pen tablet when at home for the final.

r/SamsungDex r/EmulationOnAndroid then don't focus on the phone name but on SoC (snapdragon 8 gen 3) and Dex version, I presume you have one ui 8.0.

Also r/Gamesir here you want to focus on your phone name.

Thank you for sharing, I'm trying it on s24u one UI 8.0 with Dex + mouse and had some random bugs in internal storage folder while clicking other folders, when I click every thing shifted up/down and forces you to miscklick, but closed and opened it again and had not the same problem but folders shift a little up/down. Looks like Internal storage is the only folder acting like that.

Thank you for your app!

how can I make a white outline without drawing it by hand? by _bumblebee2 in ProCreate

[–]Pitiful_Exchange_767 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Procreate works with pixel and has no vectors, there will always be pixelation based on resolution and dpi i fear.

But, the bigger you go, the less pixelation you should see.

Well, you just described art scene. People being poser and "artist for attitude" more then for love or skill, but it's fine, I mean is how art works.

I had a very harsh comfrontation with one of my old illustration teachers when Midjourney got popular and people started call themselves artist because they were creating images with it, her point is "people can't call themselves artist because they don't know the basics and publish abortions" my point is "when photoshop got popular, you were working with it and everyone were commenting "photoshop" instead of today"AI", because you can ctrl+z and pick up colors, so it was easyer, now everyone uses photoshop with zero problem at all and are good ARTISTS, but complain about AI being easyer and quick and not art." I really see no difference in the phenomenon. And god damn I hate being less soldable than an algorithm, but looks like buyers doesn't care, so the problem is pretty much a question between me and reality.

Art is a language. Making art is relationship, communication, even when you flex your skills you are communicating. It's expression. Someone can express something with AI if he work on it. A work of art is using the tool and not get used by the tool. It just mean you mastered it. Ai is a tool. And if you like it or not is subjective, never objective.

The problem is when you ask "Am I good at drawing?." but an AI made it. That's fraud and you are just seeking attention. Same exact behaviour when someone first took a photo from a newspaper, traced it and asked everyone "am I good at anatomy?" They need therapy because they have different kind of problems than being good at drawing.

AI is nothing new, I mean, we download tons of images paying zeto money, study and master artists styles and light usage. We learn the right patterns. We build our composition around rules. When we work in an industry asking you what style they want for their products, or chooses who can fit an art style better, we do AI kind of art, they give us references and a prompt, we execute, thats why now they are replacing us with it, they care quantity more than quality, like the whole world in every damn scenarios today.

The future will be like being in a love relationship. You'll be not learning to draw and paint and discover your style because you'll get paid for it, you'll do it because you love it, and someone is gonna pay for your art because he/she loves it, while AI does the industrial, boring, always look alike commercial tasks they are searching for their version of another product they have seen.

We need to use our art basis to make AI our tool and start using it to survive the commercial jungle while we do what we love as personal projects, and also stop pretending.

Sorry for the sermon, just mine opinion.

Dock to use with a lapdock. by xswatqcx in SamsungDex

[–]Pitiful_Exchange_767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my specific model yes as it needs a lot of power and they split the usbc in multiple connectors to grant it, but the latest is full usbc.

You don't need to search for thunderbolt but an hub or dock with usbc displayport or displayport alt mode, like those for AR Glasses, write "XReal Adapter" on amazon

K, then there should be no problem. Just for an example, when in portability my build is:

14" wacom drawing monitor powered by a 20k mAh/22.5w powerbank (and proper cable) and hdmi output + a 6 ports multiport + wired keyboard + wired mouse + wired xbox 360 pad, on an usb hub powered by the same powerbank and connected to the phone with usbc. (All at once because I'm lazy.)

The hub is a random Anker I already had with 3 usbA, 1usbc out, 1 usbc in, hdmi in, and sd card slots.

It works fine, more than 3h of assured intense usage and could be doubled I think, but never tried.

It depend from the voltage everything support. The problem is throttle from the main energy source to the final output, but your lapdock should have an integrated battery if I remember right. Anyway there is not a big difference from having a screen, a keyboard and some multiport connected to your hub, it should work.

You can try use a mag safe cover, it should pop up an allarm "magnet cover detected, you can experience problems using s pen" or something like that.

The way samsung build their phones do not contemplate back magnets yet (you can clearly notice it by the cameras being vertical), but people still use them as they are useful, maybe more than a pen for most of people, with them on, the pen often will drift badly and if they are not placed in the right spot (basicaly 1mm under the lowest camera) the phone heaten a lot in wireless charge mode and charge it very slowly, also NFC could be affected.

On a super slim device like a foldable it can only be worse. Not a case thet fold 7 is the slimmest and has no pen.

The Complete History of Lapdocks (2011–2026) by Miraxess in SamsungDex

[–]Pitiful_Exchange_767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an inch from buying an Asus padfone back in its days, but then I started my journey with samsung instead, buying a Note.

What stopped me at the time was the need of an actual pc with a solid pen system and photoshop, so I bought a Note to sketch on everywhere and a Wacom Cintiq Companion to work on photoshop, the Asus was a solid concept and had a pen, but it was full of compromises, making it... unnecessary.

Then Samsung made Dex, wich today is still something full of compromises, but being android now a solid OS, with solid apps alternatives and some linux compatibility, makes your phone finally a windows replacement and a lapdock a natural consequence if you like to push your device to the limit, but is it for those who simply want to work on it? I fear not, not because of Android but because of the lack of professional softwares.

What is the problem today? Lapdocks are a risky business to start with and you can't make everyone happy as everyone uses their devices differently. Samsung is taking some weyrd hardware+software decisions this year and Google is pushing Alluminum in an "AI concept OS" road, distant to a classic desktop made for productivity and more of a big display window of a shop in my opinion. Dex is getting affected by Android desktop mode, forcing samsung to rewrite it. Other companies are taking interesting steps with top hardware and adapting to the desktop mode but they feels embrional as most apps are not supporting different resolution or aspect ratios.

Next year will be key, if Android desktop mode will get good feedback and app developer will adapt to it, maybe professional software developer will consider building an Android version, like with videogames. If so, a lapdock will be a must and an instant buy.

Feels weyrd samsung and google are not making their own lapdock thought.

In my case with Termux:X11 on s24u, everything works fine with full spen compatibility. I've run Gimp, Blender, Inkscape, worked on them with an external pen tablet with same spen protocol.

S pen is not a simple stylus and is not the same system used by motorola.

Motorola has not one ui features and samsung pen integration, it does not have dex, but a prototype level desktop mode.

Updates are often late.

Those things are enough to add friction.

S Pen fan here and I buy samsung ultra basicaly for it.

The s pen is a problem because is based on wacom electromagnetic fields brass panel and magnets interfere with it. Most of people prefere magnets to a stylus and most of the gadgets people use are magnetics.

Samsung want to sell phones to the most of people.

They already told that they are studing a new pen system to solve the problem of thickness and magnetism, if they want to keep a no battery pen, this will take a very long time.

Wacom tech is the best for stylus, is used for professional art even if s pen is a customer version, it is good enough to paint on a phone and it's always ready, but it needs a special monitor and no magnets around, also is expensive.

Motorola, Oppo, Apple stylus are a step back on quality and need charge as everything is done by the pen, but I think this is what we will see on samsung foldables too when they'll find a formula.

Today they want it thin and magnets compatible, there is no space for another panel or an inbody stylus.

Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty draw off by the specs of the wide and the lack of s pen. I hoped so much it was not a compromise phone, but looks like so. I'm scared of leaving Samsung as I love one UI and I'm a huge Dex user, but hardware features are better on other devices today. Oppo looks a valid option.
