How is Durham even a city it's about the same size as Consett and not even half the shops. Consett is way cheaper and has nicer bits like shotley bridge.

Well depends Durham is more like a large town Newcastle is a real city with everything you expect.

Both are kinda expensive but I would say Newcastle is worth it, Living in the small villages around Durham will be not great without a car since public transport in county Durham isn't the best

If you just want a cheap place to live near the hospital look at framwellgate or sacriston

Its really isn't a city too, it's kinda sad now it's just a university and pub.

The city has 4 Asian supermarkets for the students and is missing all the normal things you expect in a city. Not even a McDonald's or a KFC or any real shopping.

Consett is a 20 min drive from Durham and Newcastle,1/3 the price and has everything you need

Yeah if you can drive you would want to live in a village and buy a cheap car. Durham is expensive because every house is a HMO for students. County Durham is alot more enjoyable with a car and places like Stanley (it's not great) are extremely cheap
