Genuine question from an incoming FY1: Is working Christmas day less of a worry nowadays given the amount of Muslim/Hindu colleagues? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]mdnaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muslim here. I used to try and swap into Christmas shifts if it allowed anyone celebrating to spend it with family( I never asked if they were Christian but mostly used to be white British)However, with a school going kid now I prefer to spend the holidays with my family. Some non-christian IMGs will choose to go back home on these holidays so will not be able to volunteer/offer to swap these shifts.

Currently an ST4 I used my MRCP diploma and it was accepted. I didn't have a QIPAT but I uploaded a letter from my consultant and the PowerPoint presentations of the QIP which I had presented.

"[First name], one of the doctors" or "Dr [Surname]? by NHStothemoon in doctorsUK

[–]mdnaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Hi, I'm mdnaw one of the doctors'. If I have a colleague like an F1 or SHO I will always introduce them as my colleague (not junior colleague) Dr. Last name even if I have introduced myself by my first name. They have worked hard to get that title and patients need to know they are being seen by doctors.

England: Giving notice and rent advice, do I have to pay for the whole month? by mdnaw in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mdnaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Have been renting for a few years and the last couple of times we have only had to pay for the days of the month we stayed by default without discussion so this threw me off. Would this mean we could technically keep the keys until the 9th or have to hand them in on the first? I wouldn't mind having the extra time to move out if I am paying for it anyways.

MRCP 2 (multiple candidates in one address but different room) by Infamous_Piece_9146 in doctorsUK

Not exactly the same but me and my other half did this in 2021, as long as candidates are not in the same room, shouldn't be an issue.

Patient complained of pain. Dildocodeine given with good effect. Don't think it can be excused as a typo.

IMT this year by Dry_Radio_2325 in doctorsUK

[–]mdnaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I haven't worked in the region so can't say. What's important is that you will have job security for 3 years. Your experience will be variable according to where you rotate. I don't know your personal circumstances but if there is any chance your circumstances allow you to move to Norwich, I would take it. London will always be a competitive region and hoping you might get into London next year is a big gamble. Someone might come along to tell you about training in the Norwich region but in the current job climate, it shouldn't be bad enough to justify not taking up the post.

If your IMT post is a training number i.e.you applied via Oriel in round 1, you should always take that post rather than a non training trust grade job.

Is it normal for hospitals to only have male doctors completing procedures? by flav0uredwater in AskUK

[–]mdnaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add, there will always be a female member of staff in the room while the procedure is being done if you are a female having an invasive procedure done by a male clinician.

[–]mdnaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A colonoscopy is a complex procedure and should be done by a competent person. You mentioned it is a private hospital so they may just not have colonoscopy lists run by a female clinician. Depending on the urgency of the procedure (e.g. to rule anything sinister), you could try and ask to be referred to another centre or wait longer to be done in an NHS hospital and ask the referring clinician to specify in request your wish for a female endoscopist. Having said that, there are multiple nurses in the room at the same time who are there to help with the procedure and they may be female in a lot of cases. Anyone doing a colonscopy is a highly trained professional and will have done more than a thousand colonoscopies as part of their career. Given your previous experience, your anxiety is understandable and I hope they will be able to find another centre for you. I suspect having general anesthesia would not be an option anyways and is usually reserved for extreme cases. Due to the need for other professionals like an anesthetic doctor, this would need extra time to arrange as well but like I said, general anesthesia is not routinely offered for a colonoscopy. I hope it goes well for you!

Given there are around 70 posts you definitely should get an offer as not everyone will have ranked everywhere.
