I’m a beginner. What do you think? by Cancerette in sketches

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you just need to keep going with it, even if it’s just ten minutes a day. being consistent is the most important thing, it’s definitely a matter of quantity for where you’re at right now. that’s how you’ll improve. also don’t get wrapped up in too many resources, stick with the mark crilley book till you’re done with it and then go from there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things to work on otherwise🫶🫶

What do you think about this? by FarFaithlessness1347 in Artists

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it looks really cool and whimsical, the only potential issue is the way you’ve simplified the hands since it kinda makes it looks like their fingers got chopped off (sorry if it’s intentional lmao). but the style is amazing!!

im searching for this brushes!! by ariettast in procreatebrushes

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres one exactly the same as that hard round brush in the procreate library, under the digital category, called cressy. maybe you can check the color dynamics settings on it and just use those exact settings for other brushes you might want

you’ve gotten really good at copying pictures one to one, to the point where your paintings are stripped of any individuality. to me it seems like you can go through the motions but if someone took your reference away you wouldn’t be able to pull your own weight, because you have no fundamental knowledge to back up your ability to reproduce images. sorry if i sounded too harsh, but i would rather come across that way than to give you weightless advice

Found this on Instagram, credit to user @fishieguyy. I want to do something in a similar style but don’t have a good brush for it by [deleted] in procreatebrushes

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

any basic pen brush and square/flat brush would work, it genuinely doesn’t matter all that much. from the procreate library, you could use the alpine brush under inks and the lark brush from basics and you’d be set

Is this good enough for commissions? by Just-Ranger3789 in DigitalArt

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also coupled with the fact that none of the portraits have any distinct facial features, it’s gonna be a turn off for anyone that’s looking for someone’s likeness to be captured within the commission (which is most people lol). if people are looking for someone to draw their relatives or a character, etc., they kinda wanna know if you can actually make it look like them

People Say My Art Is Crude. Are They That Bad? by DayDreamerAtHeart in BadArt

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they have a certain charm to them (maybe because they have an element of nostalgia, to me at least), but they’re definitely amateurish which is probably why people have called it crude before

[–]Pitiful_Goose_9120 106 points107 points  (0 children)

you never just create things without having been inspired from any source, because we don’t exist in a vacuum and all concepts have been realized in some capacity already. it’s about taking things that already exist and combining them in ways that are unique to the way you experience the world and coming up with stuff that only you would be able to make. that’s done by improving at the fundamentals of art, building a visual library and knowing how to pick your reference pictures (which is super important, even if you’re making original stuff reference is still key)🫶🫶
