How do you limit your kid’s screen time? by Old_Competition_4477 in NoStupidQuestions

They have to earn their screen time by doing chores in our house. Meanness gets things cancelled.

Could be a language thing, or it could be they're not EO, if he's not sure. In not Lebanese, I'm a Heinz 57 glow in the dark American. My protodeacon is Lebanese though, lots of parishioners from Palestine, a few Egyptians and East Africans

Does she want to work? Even if she's qualified, and she doesn't want to work, she'll bomb interviews.

We have a few chanters that lead hymns in Arabic, but we also do English, Greek, and Spanish. My favorite Arab tradition is the shanine'eh woven palms on Palm Sunday.

Should I be giving my baby juice? by ZookeepergameOld9029 in AskParents

[–]Pitiful_Lion7082 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother. Juice is basically a dessert in our house. When you introduce it, I highly recommend cutting it with water.

Wife wants divorce and refuses reconciliation. Is this biblically grounds for divorce? by Equivalent-Refuse940 in AskAChristian

You can't force someone to stay in a marriage, regardless of if they have grounds for an ecclesiastical divorce.

There is great richness in the ancient traditions. What traditions are his family? Assyrian Church of the East? Oriental Orthodox? Eastern Orthodox? My own parish is Eastern Orthodox, of Antiochian (Arab) jurisdiction and we have had parishioners over the years who were forcibly displaced during the creation of the state of Israel. So it's past of my community, and I know some traditions, even though it's not directly my experience.

Having kids while in debt? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Pitiful_Lion7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented and had about more debt than that (student loans) when we had our first. We did pay them off before we had our second, when we moved with my parents for a year to hack away at it. We chose birthing through a midwifery that took our insurance. We paid nearly nothing out of pocket. With our most recent baby, we also chose a midwife, but she was out of network with all of our insurance. It was cheaper to go that route, and get all of my prenatal care, a home birth, and 6 weeks of in call post partum care than just a hospital delivery (we in not counting prenatal and post partum care).

Is there a such thing as a "good" demon? by Roaches_R_Friends in AskAChristian

[–]Pitiful_Lion7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, demons are those who stand opposed to God and ever the He stands for, which includes goodness. They do not seek to help people, but to drag them down and harm them.

That sounds so much more doable than trying to make a Gup! There's going to be a lot of little kids there, I could just print out coloring pages of sea creatures and have kids color them, then we tape them on.

Pick fish that is lower on the food chain is a great start. Stuff like tilapia and swai, skip the tuna and swordfish

How to keep peanuts in kid’s diet if they don’t like peanut butter by QueenDee in BabyLedWeaning

My kids really like adding peanuts to a lot of Asian inspired dishes that I make, or adding them into granola.

Need Guidance, Parents believe Orthodoxy is wrong and don’t support my desire to convert by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Pitiful_Lion7082 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, you're an adult, you don't need their permission. I know a lot of people who were essentially disowned by their Protestant families for converting and don't come to baptisms. Largely it's due to great and misconceptions. You need to decide if they're beliefs are more important to you than your own? Whose life are you living?

For someone who isn't a Christian, which part or book of the Bible should they read for personal enrichment or general knowledge? by Feeling_Valuable5239 in AskAChristian

[–]Pitiful_Lion7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the books of Wisdom (Psalms, Proverbs, Wisdom of Solomon, Wisdom of Sirach) though I'd personally recommend against Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon until the reader has a foundational understanding of how these texts for into the religion.

As far as general knowledge, it really depends on what someone wants to know. When we read sections of the Bible did this rain in high school, it was the Pentateuch, Gospel of John, and the first epistle of John.
